Chapter 17: Dead eyes

Sorry it's short but it's what I got written for now. I make the next one longer!

Kaitlin

I cried on Bain’s chest like a baby. I guess him being a butt and now that I’m pregnant has made me a little emotional.

I laughed a little when he asked whose ass he was kicking. It made my tears dry as quickly as they started. I had a wonderful man who would do anything for me and would love me unconditionally. I was suddenly not afraid to tell him about the baby. Bain would be a great father and husband.

“Yours,” I answered louder than I meant too.

He let go and stepped back. “I’m sorry, Kitten. I’m just on edge right now and I want to be rid of Dennis tonight.”

I nodded. I totally understood that and I’m sure I was just making it worse by crying. “I have something to tell you,” I said looking him in the eyes. I needed to see his reaction when I say it.

Bain narrowed his eyes like I’ve done something wrong. He waited patiently and remained silent.

“I’m pregnant,” I said as quickly as I could.

Bain looked shocked for all of three seconds before hitting his knees. He grabbed my hips and pulled me toward him, where he rested his head on my stomach.

I stayed still and rubbed his head as he held me to him. It was like he was holding both of us at the same time. He stayed like that for a few minutes. I even felt a little wetness on my shirt but I wouldn’t dare tell him. I’ve never seen him cry and probably wouldn’t.

Bain kissed my stomach before rising back to his feet. He leaned down and took my mouth in his, as gentle as he could. When he pulled back, he smiled. It was contagious so it had me smiling too.

“I take it your happy?” I asked.

“Baby, you just gave me the best gift any man could ask for, other than their mate. Of course I’m happy,” he said pulling me in for a hug.

Connor knocked on the door frame and waited for us to stop hugging. He just stood there looking at Bain expectantly. Finally Bain threw out his arms. “I’m going to be a father,” he said smiling again.

Connor grinned and took the few steps to get to Bain. They both hugged and I saw the love these boys had for each other. It was strong and no one could knock it down. They might get angry with each other but that won’t stop them from being close.

When Kade and Laven came back in, they each hugged Bain and me and congratulated us. It was the first time everyone was smiling at the same time since I’ve come here. But, it was cut short when Bain sat down behind his desk to talk about a new plan.

“I can’t take her with me. If something happened not according to plan, I can’t be gentle if we’re running from other Lycan’s. And if he has more than Garrett on his side, I would be taking a larger risk with her.”

They all discussed between the four of them on how they could go about it but Bain said no to all of them. Then I spoke up.

“Take me to KC,” I blurted.

Bain and Connor looked at me in surprise. I don’t know if that’s a good surprise or bad one. I just stared back.

“How do you know our Grandpa?” Connor asked.

“She visited Willow’s Point every day since she’s moved here,” Bain answered for me. “Did you know he was our Grandpa?”

I nodded. “Yeah, he told me when I needed some advice,” I smirked.

Bain leaned back in his chair thinking real hard about something. Then he spoke. “Fine, let’s get you ready.”

I think all of us were shocked that he agreed to that. I was expecting to have an argument over it for a few minutes but I guess not. Bain must of figured something out that made him believe I would be safe.

We stood up and left Connor, Kade, and Laven as we went to our room. Bain helped me get ready and even went a little overboard on packing things. As much as he put in the bag, you’d think I was staying a week.

We even showered together and made sweet love under the hot spray. He was very gentle in everything he done. I think he was afraid he was going to hurt me. He already treated me like I was made of fine glass. It was sweet and I even cried again, not meaning to.

After our hour shower, we got dressed and he grabbed my bag. “Are you ready, Kitten?”

I nodded. Yes, I was but I was also scared to death. I would be staying here in Harper’s Cave while they go hunt down a psycho. I would most likely worry myself sick.

Bain must have seen the worry etch my face because he held me to him. “Don’t worry so much. Everything’s going to work out and we’ll be able to live without being stuck in a house all the time,” he reassured me.

I nodded against his hard chest. “Let’s go so you can get rid of Dennis,” I said pulling free.

Bain

Connor and I took Kitten to KC’s. I called him when we got in the vehicle earlier and he was excited to see all of us. I felt bad for not visiting my Grandpa more often. He was a great man who raised my mother by himself. He was tough in his younger years but softened over time.

When Kitten mentioned going to him, I was first surprised but it was the perfect place to take her. She would be away from our house in case Dennis had the balls to come and she would be protected by KC. He was old but very wise. He would put a bullet between anyone’s eyes if they meant harm on one of his family members.

As we got out of the truck, KC came to the door and waved us in. Kitten was the first to go in, happy to see him again. I loved that about her. She had a heart of gold and loves everyone she meets.

We walk in and the old drafty house still looked the same as it did a year ago. Everything was perfectly placed and had a purpose. If it wasn’t used every day, it got thrown out.

KC turned to us once we all stood in the dining room together. “I’m not going to ask a hundred questions about what’s going on because I know you’re in a hurry. But I need to know if I should get my special bullets out?”

His old weathered face was scrunched up waiting on me to confirm it. “Yeah, Papa, get out the special bullets. And keep her inside at all times,” I added.

Kitten narrowed her eyes and tilted her head thinking. I knew she was going to ask what those bullets were. There was only one kind of bullet that could kill us and only a select few know about it.

“What kind of bullet?”

I smirked and pulled her to me, kissing the top of her head. “The kind that can take my kind down, silver with the blood of an alpha inside.”

When my parents still lived here, they kept KC supplied with as many bullets as he could make. Now, me and Connor are responsible for that. He hasn’t needed any because he’s never used the ones he was already given.

Kitten nodded and I knew I had to say goodbye. It was hard knowing I was about to leave my pregnant mate and go kill her crazed obsessed stalker. I kissed and held her for over five minutes and we left.

“You ready?” Connor asked a little bit excited.

“Yeah, I am,” I mumbled with my thoughts still on Kitten. I had to stop thinking about her or I will get distracted and end up fucking shit up.

When we arrived back at the house, Kade and Laven were waiting to load the weapons. We packed extra guns because we’ve always noticed not everything goes according to plan. We only take two vehicles since Kitten wasn’t going to be with us and head out.

It was already dusk dark by the time we made it into Delute. Jace said he would keep Garrett busy but we still had to be careful. We had no idea where they were. They could be in town right now and see us as we ride by.

Connor pointed out the same motel that Kitten ran to when she was frightened. “We’ll hold up there and go find the son-of-a-bitch on foot,” he said.

I nodded and turned in. After getting a room under a false name, we loaded up our bodies and took off on foot through the woods. I had two addresses of where Dennis could be but he could be in town. We had no idea since we didn’t know the town as well as we do our own.

Luck just so happened to be on our side when Jace called my cell.

“I see you’ve made it….And your target is on his way to the motel you just checked into,” Jace said.

I stopped suddenly and threw out my hand for everyone to do the same. “Does he know we’re here?”

“No, but he has Garrett with him. I tried distracting him but he already had plans with Dennis. Just remember to keep my brother out of it. I will be watching,” he said and hung up.

Jace and I were just alike in so many ways and I respected that. If he was bad like his brother, I wouldn’t have cared to respect his wishes. I wouldn’t have called him either.

Now, our plans were a little messed up. Garrett couldn’t get in the way. If he did, there would be a war between Jace and me.  And when Alphas war together, it never stops until all of his family and him are dead.

“New plan. Dennis and Garrett are on their way to the motel we’re at. We need to hide the vehicles and get in the room before they get here.”

“Shit! I thought his brother was going to keep him busy?” Connor asked pissed.

“I thought so too but he said he already had plans with Dennis. Let’s go,” I said walking back to the motel.

Connor and Laven hid the vehicles across the street while Kade and I kept a look out. We waited for over twenty minutes until a black Hummer pulled up four doors down. I knew it was them before they even opened the doors. I could feel the anger and frustration radiating off all of us stuck in the small room.

If I went out there right now, Garrett could try to kill us not knowing we weren’t there to kill him. It pissed me off but there was nothing I could do until he knew otherwise.

My mind was suddenly changed when I saw Garrett get out of the vehicle. He opened the backdoor and pulled out a young bound girl. She looked about Kitten’s age and terrified with widened eyes. He had her wrists and ankles tied, with tape over her mouth. Something wasn’t right. Then Dennis emerged from the passenger side.

I went for the door but both Connor and Kade jerked me back. “Don’t, not yet!” Connor growled.

I was too pissed to care. I pushed them off and jerked the door opened with my gun drawn. We surrounded them before they even knew what hit them. I was itching to go ahead and pull the trigger on Dennis as soon as he smirked.

“Go ahead, get it over with. Because I won’t stop trying to get my mate back,” Dennis said.

I dropped my hand with the gun in it and put it behind my back. While I was zeroed in on Dennis, Connor had Garrett passing over the girl to him. Garrett was pissed but wasn’t willing to fight us for her.

I walked the few feet that separated me and him and knocked him on his ass with a blow to his face. He spit out the blood on the pavement and got back to his feet.

“You almost killed my mate!” I yelled and hit him down again. Dennis couldn’t get one hit in because he didn’t have the quickness of an Alpha or the strength. I beat him until his whole face was a bloody mess.

Dennis couldn’t even stand up by the time I was done. I stood him up and grabbed his head with my hands and sharply turned, breaking his neck. He fell, hitting the pavement hard.

He was still alive because that can’t kill a lycan. Only the bullet I prepared just for him can.
