Chapter 28:

Dear Mom, Dad, Gretel, Ara, and Jasper,

The ball is over. Didn't go as bad as I thought it would. This is my last note that I am aloud to give to you. I wish I could continue, but only up to three notes.

I hope life is going on as normal as it can be for you guys.

Things are as weird as you may imagine.

Lessons. That is what explains my time of disappearing. I have been taught how to use various 'Kale' weaponry and I have been strengthening, too.

The soft Willow you used to know is no longer soft. The world has changed so much in such a short period. And the sad thing is, that it isn't the world that has changed, it is me. To think that if I were to come back home, it would never be the same. That nothing would ever go back to normal, because it isn't the world that has changed. It is me. And what used to be my life, is just a ghost. I will never sit in that diner with you, Jasper, and for it to be the same as it was.

The thought saddens me, somehow.

I hope you are doing well. Hopefully, better than me. My time is running out, one more month. A month has never seemed like a short time, until now. The clock is ticking, and I feel that I will never truly be prepared for the immense steps I am taking.

I am only living, and I am scared of death. But, death is sometimes inevitable. I hope you'll make out without me. I am sure you will.

So close to death, I have been thinking about life. About the living. Sure, you will remember me for a while, but what about in two thousand years, when the time has passed. I'll just be whisper in the wind, long gone. Not that, that bothers me much. It's more of, if we're all to be forgotten, do we really exist at all?

I wish the best of luck to all of you. This may be the last time you ever hear of me again. I will be but another whisper in the wind.

I hope you'll all find something worth living for, something worth fighting for. I hope you chase your dreams, always. I hope you never forget how much I love you all. I hope you treasure each other's company at all costs.

I hope only the best for all of you. I wish I could extend this letter for ever, to never truly say goodbye. But, sometimes, you have to let go.

My last goodbye, I'd never thought it would be written out like this. I'd never really given thought to how I would die, mostly because I am only seventeen and I have 900 years ahead of me (thinking about how Amnesians live 1000 years, really makes me feel funny). Well, had 900 years ahead of me. I wonder how long Ganashes live....

Stalling for time, even I can't keep to what I am saying. I wish I could hear from you, could hear you respond. Hear your voices again, never have to let go. Sometimes, I wonder why I even said yes to this mission. Why did I say I would go? What was the point of an adventure to remember, if you don't even have the chance to remember?

Goodbye, at last. I love you all, forever and always. Always and forever.

-Willow

Jasper closed his eyes and felt the wind on his face. If he could take back any day of his life, it would be the one where he let Willow march off after those strange people. He would diss Marcus and run with Willow to make sure they didn't take her.

He knew they were the ones who took her, he knew it. He could feel it. It wasn't a coincidence that the next day she would disappear. He felt like Annie knew more than she was letting on, but she stood quiet.

This was Willow's spot when she was frustrated, on top of the abandoned skyscraper's roof, looking over the city. She always liked high places. And here he was, atop it, regretting the days events.

He had wrote notes to Willow, that he obviously didn't send, but it eased him. In her last note she talked about death, and he couldn't stand it.

He stood up, and grabbed his notes he had written for her. Taking a deep breath and opening his eyes, he looked solemnly over the city. And let go of the notes. He watched as the wind took them off, he never imagined her being gone. Since they were six, she had never been gone. He couldn't imagine life, where he woke up and didn't call Willow to see what she was doing. He couldn't imagine life where he went to her house, just to see that she wasn't there.

For the first time in his lifetime, he felt like crying. It was stupid, useless, and childish, but he couldn't stop. She was gone, and if he would of frickin' just gone with her, everything would be the same. They would be sitting here, looking over the city they grew up in.

But, he was alone now. And he watched as the winds carried the notes away.

Sometimes, you need to let go.

Willow groaned loudly, aware she was sounding like a child.

"Just read the legend." Chelsea said, throwing a stack of papers in front of her. They were in the library, where most of the classes took place. Michael was with Alicia and Chris somewhere.

Willow looked at the stash of papers in front of her in surprise. "What?"

"Read the legend, from the beginning." Willow furrowed her eyebrows, she had read the legend about the One a million times, but never the entire legend. Chelsea nodded, clearly indicating her to get started. She seemed tense and uncomfortable, and as soon as Willow got to the first page, Chelsea turned and walked to a bookshelf, pretending to be busy. Willow read from the beginning.

The legend covered a lot of things. From the fate of small villages, to the fate of large kingdoms.

"Unless the Elves and Sweires were to unite in this war, it will be sure-death."

And other things of that sort. She was still in the very, very early times. The dates were from eleven thousand years ago! As she read through, surprisingly intrigued, something caught her eye.

"James Careg and Merideth Jakeson, will be bound in forever love and adoration."

Willow furrowed her eyebrows and re-read the line twice. It didn't make sense, she looked up at Chelsea and asked, "What does, 'Will be bound in forever love and adoration.'?" Chelsea was quiet for just a minute then turned to Willow with a smile.

"The legend bounds two people together like that." She said.

"Bounds? With what?" Willow asked, instantly curious to the whole story.

"Love." Chelsea said. "When two people love each other very much, the legend bounds them to be together."

"And what if they don't love each other?" The young Amnesian asked, unable to help herself.

Chelsea laughed nervously, "That doesn't happen." Maybe it was the way she said it, maybe it was the way she laughed or looked, but Willow was instantly sure she was lying.

"But what if it does?" Willow prompted. She knew there was more to this than Chelsea was saying.

Chelsea sighed, "It's very rare," She said, rubbing her forehead nervously. "Once in two thousand years, or so. But...once in a while...the legend bounds two people who don't love each other." She was quiet for a long, long moment. So long, that Willow thought she wasn't going to say anything at all.

But, she did. She whispered the words, her eyes having a far-away look. "Disrupts. We call them disrupts."

"What happens to disrupts?" Willow asked, looking down at her hands. It seemed sad, to be bound to someone you don't love.

"They get killed." Chelsea said bluntly. Willow looked up at Chelsea in surprise. Chelsea just nodded slowly. "Well, they have 'till they're twenty five to fall in love with their bound one. If they don't, or don't hide it well, they get killed. Our leaders say disrupts aren't safe. They're very strict when it comes to the legend."

Willow opened her mouth to say something, but then closed it again. What could she say? "That's terrible." Is what she ended up saying, instead.

Chelsea's eyebrow twitched a little and she continued, "It gets worst. If a disrupt were to fall in love with someone other than his bound, the bound, the one he -or she- loves are killed. They're very strict about that, too. If a disrupt likes the company of another, over the company of his bound, everybody dies as well."

Willow sighed, "That's a lot of deaths."
