chapter four!

season 1, episode 4 - nineteen!

AURORA WAS AT HER LOCKER, grabbing her books. Ned had already left to go to gym class, leaving Aurora to go to math.  Cole was passing by when he noticed her, a smile creeping on his lips.  "Hey, sleeping beauty."  Aurora closed her locker, leaning her back against it.  "Hi, seaweed brain."

"What class you got?" the blonde asked, causing Aurora to playfully smirk.  "Wow, the Cole Walter wants to know what class I have.  Well, blondie, I have math.  What do you have?"

"It's an honor to get asked a question by the Aurora Banks.  I have physics, princess."  Aurora rolled her eyes, "We should start heading to our classes, blondie.  We can walk together if you want."

"I think that would be nice."  As the duo walked in the hallway, Erin couldn't help but notice them.  She had one goal that day: to make Aurora Banks regret ever talking to Cole Walter.

Lunch had come and gone as students were starting to go to their next class. Aurora was walking with Jackie and Ned, giving her tips on classes she would have to take next year. Cole jogged up behind them, "Ladies, hey. Sleeping beauty, New York, Ned."

"What do you want, Cole?" Jackie asked, clearly annoyed. "Look, Dylan has a lake house. I mean, it would involve cutting class-" Jackie shook her head, "You know I can't do that."

"Well, I'm going and looks like you're having one of those days where you just kind of need an escape." Cole stated, looking at Jackie. "I'll go with you. All I have right now is gym but the teacher doesn't even remember us." Aurora said, earning a smile from Cole. Ned nodded in agreement.  Jackie on the other hand, still wasn't willing to go with him. "I have to get to class."

"Come on. It's one afternoon.  You're gonna catch up.  You gotta relax for once. Take your mind off of things."  Jackie noticed Erin and her friend walking by, talking about something.  The brunette sighed, giving into Cole's offer.  As they walked to the car, Aurora felt a slight breeze, shivering. Cole took off his jacket, placing it on her shoulders. "Thanks." she states, smiling softly. "Any time."

They eventually arrived at the lake house, getting out the car. As they walked, Erin and her friends were talking amongst themselves. "Hi, Erin." Jackie spoke, earning a glare from the blonde girl. "Didn't realize I was going to have a Jackie - centered day today. Also, what is she doing here?" Erin asked, referring to Aurora. "Well, hello to you too." Aurora grumbled, earning an eye roll from Erin. Things were about to get interesting.

NED AND AURORA FOUND somewhere to sit, talking to each other.  She was still wearing Cole's jacket which Erin noticed from afar, crossing her arms. "Who wants to go skinny dipping with me?" Dylan asked, taking off his jacket. "I'm good." Aurora stated, going back to talking to Ned.

There was some tension between Dylan and Cole, which ended in Cole going to get some wood and Dylan going skinny dipping. "I'll be right back." Aurora said, standing up. "You're going to check on him, aren't you?" Ned asked teasingly, causing Aurora to fight back a smile. "No. Are you going to talk to Jackie?" Aurora asked, causing Ned to blush. "Just go." Ned stated, earning a victory smile from Aurora.

Cole was cutting wood which was successful so far. Aurora walked through the grass, shielding her eyes from the sun. "Need some help?" she asked, causing Cole to notice her. "I think I'm good, princess."

"How are you feeling about what Dylan said?" Aurora asked, causing Cole to sigh. "I don't really want to talk about it right now."

"Okay, we don't have to talk about it. When you're ready, you can tell me." Aurora assured him, making Cole smile. "So are you enjoying the party so far?"

"It could be better. Plus Erin keeps glaring at me so it could be the fact that I still have your jacket on. I'll give it back to you now." she answered, taking off his jacket.

"I think it's because we're hanging out together. She does this a lot. Don't worry, sleeping beauty." Aurora smiled, "Your never going to stop calling me that, are you, seaweed brain?"

"You know me so well, Banks."

"Do I?"

"What's my favorite color?"

"I don't know. Red?"

"Wrong, sleeping beauty. It's green."

"How was I supposed to know!" Aurora exclaimed, earning a laugh from Cole. "Since you want to play that game, when's my birthday?"

"Uh... May 2?"

"Wrong, seaweed brain. It's November 23."

"See, I knew that."

"But did you though?" Aurora asked teasingly, earning an eye roll from Cole. "Okay, what's my favorite sport?"

"That's easy. It's football." Aurora answered. "I gave you an easy one. What do I want to do after high school?"

"Go to college?"

"Nope, you're wrong. I don't even know if I want to go to college. I think I want to travel around the world, see the beauty of certain places."

"That's a nice dream. I might go away for college, I applied to Brown University a few months ago but I haven't got anything yet."

"You'll get in, princess."

"And why do you think so?"

"Because you're Aurora Banks, you're valedictorian for crying out loud! Plus, you're really smart and you probably have a high GPA."

"When did you start caring about me, Walters?"

"I don't know, Banks. Maybe I'm more than what you think I am."

"Maybe you are, Walters." A drunk Jackie walked onto the scene, making Cole and Aurora worried. The two walked with her back to the lake house, where truth or dare was starting. Paige had kissed Dylan for truth, leaving Jackie confused. "What just happened?" Jackie asked Danny. "In our super awesome version of the game, you can pass on your turn by kissing the person to your left and then changing places." Olivia explained.

After a few rounds, Ned and Aurora hugged (neither of them wanted to kiss each other).  Olivia picked Cole, asking if he wanted to do a truth or a dare.  "Truth." Cole asnwered.  "What do you really think about Dylan stealing your spot and your number?"  Cole's jaw clenched, "I'm actually done with this game.  I quit."

"Uh... I'll go again." Aurora stated, just to try and lighten up the mood.  "Truth or dare?" Erin asked her.  "Truth?"

"What's really going on between you and Cole?" Erin asked, her arms crossed.  Her brows knitted down with confusion, "Nothing is going on between me and Cole.  We're just friends."

"Cut the crap.  I know there's something going on with you two."

"Erin, nothing is happening between me and your boyfriend.  And why are you asking me for? He's right there." Aurora stated, earning a bitter laugh from Erin.  Jackie had thrown up, signaling that it was time for them to head home.

COLE HAD STAYED IN THE CAR, offering Aurora a ride home.  The car was parked in front of her house, allowing Aurora to get out.  "Thanks for the ride, blondie."

"No problem, princess.  Do you want me to walk you inside?"

"That would be nice." she stated, causing Cole to get out the car.  The two walked to the front door, Aurora ringing the doorbell.  The door eventually swung open, revealing her mother.  "Aurora, where were you? I got a call from your school that you weren't in gym today!"

"Hi, mom.  I'm sorry, I was-"

"It was my fault, Mrs. Banks.  I convinced her to go to a party with me and that's why she left school."

"And who are you?"

"My name is Cole Walters, Mrs. Banks.  Your daughter is amazing and I promise I won't ask her to do something like this."

"Well, I hope so.  Please say goodbye to your friend, Aurora.  Don't let this happen again."  her mother warned, closing the door.  "You didn't have to do that, Cole."

"But I did.  We're friends and I didn't want you to get in trouble."

"Well, thank you.  So I'll see you tomorrow?"

"I'll see you tomorrow." Cole answered, walking away from the porch.  It left Aurora with a question that day.

There was nothing going on between her and Cole, right?
