Marriage
Gumball's POV
It's been a month since Marshy proposed to me, and I proposed to him. Hehe. I'm such a gumbutt.
Today, I would marry my cute Marshall. I was so excited!!
I stood alone in my room, waiting for Pepper to come walk me into the ceremony hall. Although she wasn't my biological mother, she was the mother figure in my life. I would let Starchy walk me in because he was like a father to me but... he's kind of... Yeah.
I remember sitting for hours with Pepper, just deciding what cake we make! I made it myself, three tiers of red velvet, coated with pink marzipan. Between each tier was a layer of thick, gooey cream. White chocolate with red food colouring in had been poured over the top like blood. On the top tier was the same white gazebo we had that romantic dinner before proposing made out of marzipan and two marzipan figures of the two of us. Marshall wanted to organise the wedding itself while I organised the party. Everything else we did together.
"Been here long? We're ready for you, sweetie." I turned to find Pepper in the doorway.
I took one more glance in the tall mirror at my white suit with pink trimmings. My crown was perfectly positioned on my fluffy pink hair. A pink veil covered my face.
"Okay. Let us be on our way then." I smiled.
I linked my arm in hers and followed her down to the ceremony hall. Marshall was facing the other way before music started playing once they all saw me in the doorway. The song was an instrumental version of Turning Page, by Sleeping At Last. It was beautiful.
Marshall turned to face me with the biggest smile I had ever seen on this adorable face.
He wore a black and red tuxedo with a cute red rose tucked in the chest pocket of the jacket. His crown was perfectly positioned on his head.
I smiled as Peppermint Maid walked me down the aisle to my future husband, Marshall Lee.
"Nervous?" She smiled, looking up at me.
"Not at all. Okay, that was a lie. I'm not just nervous, I'm petrified." I whispered back.
"You said the exact same thing before your coronation to be crowned Prince of the Candy Kingdom." She chuckled.
"This is bigger. I don't get the help from you when I'm not sitting at a desk filing papers or writing speeches. I have to please one person with no help, that feels so much harder when it's one alone. Like he will critique my every move." I worried.
"Nonsense. He loves you, if any thing it's the other way around. He probably feels like pleasing you is like facing seven impossibilities in one hour. Stereotypical princes have standards, you know." She smiled, brushing off my thoughts.
"But he's a king" I countered just before we arrived at the front.
"Take care of this one" She smiled at Marshall before taking a seat.
"Oh, I plan to!" He beamed.
"Oi. Marshall Lee, the vampire king. Recite your vows." I turned to see a teenage cat person. I couldn't tell if it was male or female. It was mostly black with purple streaks. It wore a black tuxedo and a spiked choker.
"Sorry, Trix. Okay. Prince Gumball. I take you as you are, loving who you are now and who you are yet to become. I promise to listen to you and learn from you, to support you and accept your support. I will celebrate your triumphs and mourn your losses as though they were my own. I will love you and have faith in your love for me, through all our years and all that life may bring;
I love you unconditionally and without hesitation. I vow to love you, encourage you, trust you, and respect you. As a family, we will create a home filled with learning, laughter, and compassion. I promise to work with you to foster and cherish a relationship of equality knowing that together we will build a life far better than either of us could imagine alone. Today, I choose you to be my husband. I accept you as you are, and I offer myself in return. I will care for you, stand beside you, and share with you all of life's adversities and all of its joys from this day forward, and all the days of my life."
"Awww, Marshall, that was beautiful! Gumball your turn, can you do any better?" Trix smiled.
"Marshall Lee. Today, I promise you this: I will laugh with you in times of joy, and comfort you in times of sorrow. I will share in your dreams and support you as you strive to achieve your goals. I will listen to you with compassion and understanding, and speak to you with encouragement. Together, let us build a home filled with learning, laughter and light, shared freely with all who may live there. Let us be partners, friends and lovers, today and all of the days that follow;
Marshall, you are my best friend. I promise to laugh with you, cry with you, and grow with you. I will love you when we are together and when we are apart. I promise to support your dreams and to respect our differences, and to love you and be by your side through all the days and nights of our lives. Even if I'm not alive at some point, I will return for you and only you. I hope you can wait for me until then."
"Aww, so sweet!! Do you, Gumball promise to be a loving friend and partner during marriage, to talk and to listen, to trust and appreciate, to respect and cherish Marshall's uniqueness? Do you promise to support, comfort, and strengthen him through life's joys and sorrows? Do you promise to share hopes and dreams as you build your lives together, and to grow with Marshall in mind? Will you strive to build a home that is compassionate to all, full of respect and honor, filled with peace, happiness, and love? Do you promise to always be open and honest with Marshall, and cherish him for as long as you shall live?" Trix smiled.
"I, Prince Gumball, take you, Marshall to be my husband. I promise to always be your biggest fan and your partner in crime. I promise to create and support a family with you, in a household filled with laughter, patience, understanding, and love. I vow not just to grow old by your side, but to grow as a person together. I will love you faithfully through the difficult and the easy. What may come, I will always be there, each one believing that love never dies. As I have given you my hand to hold, so I give you my life to keep."
"Marshall?" Trix said, turning to him.
"I, Marshall Lee, take you, Prince Gumball to be the husband of my days, the companion of my house, the friend of my life. We shall bear together whatever trouble and sorrow life may lay upon us, and we shall share together whatever good and joyful things life may bring us. With these words, and all the words of my heart, I marry you and bind my life to yours."
"I, Prince Gumball, choose you, Marshall Lee, to be no other than yourself. Loving what I know of you, trusting what things I will discover. I will respect you as a person, a partner, and an equal. There is little to say that you haven't already heard, and little to give that is not already freely given. Before you asked me, I was yours and I am devoted to you in every way. I marry you with no hesitation or doubt, and my commitment to you is absolute;
I choose you. To stand by your side and sleep in your arms. To be joy to your heart and food for your soul. To learn with you and grow with you, even as time and life change us both. I promise to laugh with you in good times and struggle alongside you in bad times. I promise to respect you and cherish you as an individual, a partner, and an equal, knowing that we do not complete, but complement each other. May we have many adventures and may I grow old beside you."
"Today, surrounded by people who love us, I choose you, Prince Gumball, to be my partner. I am proud to be your husband and to join my life with yours. I vow to support you, push you, inspire you, and above all love you, for better or worse, in sickness and health, for richer or poorer, as long as we both shall live;
I promise to choose you every day, to love you in word and deed, to do the hard work of making now into always. To laugh with you, cry with you, grow with you, and create with you. To honor the divinity in you, of you, and around you. To be your kin and your partner in all of life's adventures. Loving what I know of you and trusting what I don't yet know, I give you my hand. I give you my love. I give you myself. Will you give me yourself? Will you come travel with me?"
"I, Prince Gumball, do pledge to you, Marshall Lee, my love, for as long as I live. What I possess in this world, I give to you. I will keep you and hold you, comfort and tend you, protect you and shelter you, for all the days of my life."
"Oh my glob, you guys!! Your so perfect and adorable!! Now for the rings." Trix beamed.
"Yeah, right here." I saw Flame Prince, the best man, hand Marshall the gold rings.
Marshall took my hand and slid mine on before I did the same with his ring.
"Time for the I do. Marshall?" Trix smiled.
"I do." He smiled at me.
"Your turn, Gumball!!" Trix beamed.
"I do." I smiled back. Oh glob I'm crying!!
"You may kiss the husband!" Trix chuckled, a tear sliding down its face.
Marshall lifted my veil and pulled me into a loving kiss.
*Flash*
"Yeah, that's definitely a keeper" Trix chuckled.
I turned to see Trix with a Polaroid camera and a picture of our kiss. What the heck?!
"What? You're both too damn cute!!" Trix beamed.
"Don't mind her, it's a yaoi thing. Send me a copy later, 'kay?" Marshall chuckled before taking my hand in his. The cat's a girl?
"Sure, as long as I get a front row seat on your honeymoon, Gumlee" She smirked. Both me and Marshall blushed.
"G-Gumlee?" I blushed.
"It's your ship name" She smiled before Marshall dragged me down the aisle so we could get ready for the after party. Knowing him he wanted some alone time before we get there.
He picked me up bridal style and carried me up to my room.
"Finally... I have you all to myself. I was beginning to think we had to stay there all night-" I interrupted him by kissing him passionately.
"Hehe. You're so impatient, Marshy!" I chuckled.
"I know. You look stunning by the way." He smiled at me before laying me gently on my bed.
"Thank you, my sexy husband!" I smirked up at him.
"Sexy husband? I like that." He chuckled in reply.
"Oi!! Get you're gay asses out here!! I know you're at it but you need to be adorable down there in the party!!" Trix shouted from behind the door.
"Damn... I was just getting horny too..." Marshall muttered. I blushed in reply.
"Come on, let's get ready!!" I laughed, pushing him off me before running into my bathroom to fix my hair.
"I'm so gonna get you later" He chuckled.
I smiled to myself as I brushed my hair into its usual style before straightening my suit.
I peeked my head out into my room, before strolling out when I saw no Marshall. He must've gone down already.
"Leaving without me, Gumbutt?" I heard Marshall whisper roughly into my ear.
"OH MY GLOB, MARSHALL?! DONT DO THAT! I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK AND DIED YOU IDIOT!!" I screamed, jumping away from him.
"Hehe. Your fine, don't worry. I'm here for you, remember?" He laughed at me.
I blushed as he picked me up by my waist and carried me down to the wedding party.
"I love you Gummy" He smiled before pecking my lips.
"I love you too, Marshy" I replied before we walked into the ballroom, where the party was held.
"There's my happy couple!!" Flame Prince smiled as Marshall put me down.
"Hey, Flame!!" Marshall smiled, fist bumping the red haired boy.
"Fancy playing a few tracks to get this party started?" He asked.
"I actually planned to play one myself, boys." I smiled proudly.
"You play?!" Marshall questioned.
"Ahh! My husband didn't know I played an instrument!?" I faked shock.
"You never mentioned it, love. What do you play anyways?" He smiled.
"Piano, I used to practise every day when I was young. But being a prince has a price. I never had time." I smiled, remembering old times at my beautiful white grand piano.
"Sire, your piano is ready. Do you want to play something for us all?" Pepper smiled, approaching us.
"Yes, Pepper. Thank you." I smiled before heading up to the stage. "Cake? Could I borrow you for a moment? Bring your Viola, please." I smiled after getting everyone's attention.
"Boy, what you plannin' on doin'?" She sassed.
"Do you know how to play I Will Be There, from The Count Of Monte Cristo?"
"Who do you think I am? Of course!" She smiled.
Marshall's POV
Gumball sat down at a elegant, white grand piano. Once he started playing, I realised how spectacular his skills were. It was magical.
"In the light that falls at moonrise
In the rhythm of the rain
In the miracle of ordinary days
In the hush of night I will be in the whisper of lovers
Everywhere, you will find me there
In the rustle of a curtain
In the bustle of the world
In a thousand little unexpected ways
When you lift your gaze I will be like the shimmer of one small star
Out there, shining everywhere
I will be there beside you through the lonely nights that fall
So close your eyes, remember my embrace
I will be there like mercy; I will find you through it all
This do I swear, I will be there
In a language never spoken
Live the promises we've made
In the endless love that owned me heart and soul
In the certainty I will always be true
And as near as my next prayer, you will find me there
In the echo of the ocean
In the hunting of the wind
In mysterious extraordinary ways
Through the darkest sky I will be like the shimmer of one small star
Out there, shining everywhere
I will be there beside you through the lonely nights that fall
So close your eyes, remember my embrace
I will be there like freedom; I will find you through it all
This do I swear, I will be there
In the harbor quarter
In the stone and mortar
In the star that we both share
In the sound of laughter
Now and ever after
Look for me, I will be there
I will be there beside you through the lonely nights that fall
So close your eyes
Remember my embrace
I will be there
Remember my embrace
Yes, will be there
like justness; I will find you through it all
This do I swear, I will be there
This do I swear, I will be there
This do I swear, I will be there"
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Gumball's voice was amazing when he sang... my heart filled with butterflies everytime he raised his voice for the chorus.
Then it clicked. I knew what to get him for a wedding gift, but it won't be ready until we return from our honeymoon.
"Flame-"
Gumball's POV
I finished playing and cast my gaze towards the audience. Marshall whispered something into Flame's ear as he stared at me. What could he be saying?
"Ooh, baby!! That was some sweet playin' there Gumball!! Fancy another round?" Cake beamed.
"I might play with Marshall and Flame next, sorry Cake." I smiled down at her.
"Sure. You wanna play with your Marshall, eh?" She smirked.
"S-shut up!!" I shouted just as Flame and Marshall walked on stage. Marshall winked at me and Flame flashed a cheeky smile. What could those two be up to now?
"What do you fancy playing?" Flame said, sitting down at a red and orange drum set.
"Can't Fight This Feeling!!" I shout.
"Oh glob, it's so old!! I regret existing in that age..." Marshall grumbled.
"For me, Marshy?" I pleaded with puppy dog eyes.
"F-fine" me mumbled, a blush spread across his face.
"I can't fight this feeling any longer
And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow
What started out as friendship, has grown stronger
I only wish I had the strength to let it show
I tell myself that I can't hold out forever
I said there is no reason for my fear
Cause I feel so secure when we're together
You give my life direction
You make everything so clear
And even as I wander
I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window
On a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come crashing through your door
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore
My life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you
I've been running round in circles in my mind
And it always seems that I'm following you, boy
Cause you take me to the places that alone I'd never find
And even as I wander I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window on a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come crashing through your door
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore."
We played song after song into the night, forgetting the party was for us while we played like a professional band on tour.
