CHAPTER TWELVE----▹

ONE YEAR LATER.
AVENGERS FACILITY, UPSTATE NEW YORK

''FLOWER, YOU'VE GOT MAIL," Natasha alerted stepping into the kitchen, "Ooo, gimme gimme," Leigh exclaimed reaching out for the envelope, the brunette had been very impatiently waiting for her scores from her final medical school exam to come through. "I'm nervous..." Leigh stated, her mood changing suddenly, "What if I didn't pass?"

"Leigh." Wanda spoke gathering the brunette's attention, "You studied obsessively for it, there is no way you didn't pass."  the green-eyed girl took a deep breath opening the envelope, "I don't wanna read you take it!" she tossed the letter in Wanda's direction, which was caught by a red sparkle, Wanda rolled her eyes teasingly, plucking the envelope from the air.

For Leigh's standards, Wanda was taking way too long to read the results, "Well?!!?!" she asked exasperated, "You passed? Maybe? These results are written really weird." Green eyes narrowed at the witch, "You are no help."

Leigh skimmed over the paper, "Well..." Wanda's face dropped slightly, "I passed!" she exclaimed taking, Wanda's hand and dancing around in a small circle, Natasha smiled at the two of them.

"So," Leigh started, after completing the small spin, "What's a cookin'?" Wanda smiled slightly,  "How does spaghetti sound?" she asked arching an eyebrow, "Delicious!" Natasha gently tugged on Leigh's braid, "I'm proud of you," the brunette wrapped her arms around the redhead, "Thank you..."

"I believe I heard something about congratulations being due," Vision spoke floating through the wall, Leigh jumped slightly, "You've got to start using the doorways-Damn. One of these days you're going to send me into cardiac arrest." Natasha laughed lightly at the girl, "Have you heard from Clint recently?" she asked, "Yeah, I'm going to the farm next week,"

"How come I didn't get an invite?" Natasha gasped in false offense, Leigh rolled her eyes, "You're always invited to his farm, Nat." Wanda tapped Leigh's shoulder, "Here, cut this up." she handed her the cutting board and tomatoes "Oh, no I am awful in the kitchen. Let's not do that."

"I think you're capable of cutting up some tomatoes." Leigh groaned accepting the board and sitting at the countertop, "Hey, Nat?" Wanda asked, "What's up?" the redhead asked looking up from her phone where she was responding to her beautiful wife's text messages. "Do you know how many people are eating dinner here tonight?"

"Well it's Sunday, so a lot?" On Sundays, they've been having team dinners at the facility in hopes of keeping the team's bond strong. Thor and Bruce were seriously missing out on these chaotic occasions. "Very helpful, thank you."

"You've been spending way too much time with Leigh, her dry sarcasm is rubbing off on you." Natasha quipped stealing a roll from the breadbasket, "Wow, now that was offensive Romanoff," Leigh joked, "You can never spend too much time with me."

"Whatever you say, Strange....or should I say, Dr. Strange," she asked with an arched eyebrow, Leigh glared in her direction, "You should call your dad though, Leigh. I'm sure he would love to hear about it." the brunette shrugged, "I guess."

Things with Leigh's father had been going decent. She was still angry with him for pushing her away when she needed him most, but things were going better. They could have a conversation without fighting about anything, and things were starting to look up slightly.

Leigh was worried he'd be disappointed with the results of her test, they may have been good but they were not to his standards. And she hated when he got all disappointed in her, it had never been a good feeling but he expected so much out of her that it was inevitable.

Wanda had sent the others in the room off doing various tasks complaining that it was hard to cook when everyone was in her way, but Natasha knew better than that. Clearly, Wanda wanted to talk to Leigh, and the redhead fully supported that.

"You ok?" Wanda stirred the pot of simmering sauce, "hmm?" Leigh hummed meeting her eyes. "I asked if you're ok," she explained, Leigh shrugged, "I'm just worried about what my father might say about this," she motioned to the piece of paper, "Well," Wanda set the spoon down, "I don't know about him, but I am so proud of you Leigh. And you shouldn't be worried about his opinion."

"I mean if he isn't proud of the amazing person you've become then it's his own loss." Wanda smiled, "I guess you're right," Wanda arched an eyebrow at her, "Why of course, I'm always right."

"Yes you are," Leigh smiled, playing with a strand of Wanda's hair, "Accept, when you're unfortunately not." she added, and the Maximoff woman's jaw dropped slightly, "I'm hurt, Strange." this only made Leigh smirk, "Whatever Maximoff."

Leigh had spent a lot of time with Wanda over the past year, sure it took her months to trust the witch, but in her defense, Wanda had messed with her mind. After months of kicking Wanda's ass in training, she felt a lot better about the whole thing. Not only did Leigh come to find Wanda's presence bearable but she also found herself enjoying it.

Natasha had been teasing Leigh relentlessly about the slight crush Leigh had on Wanda. Leigh was very unamused with the redhead's snide comments and hoped she would stop trying to set the two of them up.

"Help me set up the table?" Wanda asked, sending some sets of silverware floating through the air, Leigh plucked the sets out of the air, red dust settling away, "Sure." she smiled.

----

Leigh had been staring at her ceiling for what felt like hours, she wasn't sure why she couldn't sleep. Maybe it was the nightmares, of her best friend's limp body, or maybe it was the fact that she had one too many coffees that day. Either way, she did what she does best when she can't sleep, she pulled out her keyboard plugging it into the wall.

The brunette pulled out one of her many half-full notebooks jotting down lyrics as they came to her. She gently hummed a tune, stringing together different chords, in hopes of creating something wonderful.

A gentle knock interrupted her, Leigh's green eyes darted away from her notebook, to the door, and then to the digital clock,

12:34 am

Leigh's feet hit the floor softly, and she made her way across the room, to open the door, "Can't sleep?" she asked opening it wider once she realized it was Wanda. "Nope," she paused upon spotting the keyboard, "You can't either, then?" Leigh shook her head in response.

She moved back to her seat on the bed and Wanda stood kind of awkwardly at the foot of Leigh's bed. "You can sit on the bed if you want," she shrugged, Wanda smiled, as Leigh moved to make room for her. "Play something for me?"

Leigh shook her head, "I don't know Wands...I haven't played anything for anyone in a long time." Wanda smiled, "It's ok, I'll never push you into doing something you don't want, Leigh." Leigh tucked a strand of hair behind her ear that had escaped the braid.

"I actually wanted to talk to you about something..." Wanda spoke up, and Leigh gently pulled her fingertips away from the keys, "Of course, is there something wrong?" Wanda chuckled, "Nothing too wrong I just, I just..." Wanda's eyes flickered to Leigh's lips.

Leigh being a trained agent noticed the movement immediately, and her heart rate definitely did not go up, "You just?" Leigh asked, "Fuck it." Wanda breathed, reaching her hands up to cup either side of Leigh's face, the green-eyed girl barely had time to react before Wanda's soft lips crashed against her own.

Wanda pulled back soon after, "Just...that..." Wanda explained, stuttering slightly, "Damn witchy, I didn't know you had that in you." Leigh spoke with a small smile, "So...you aren't mad at me?" Wanda whispered, "I kissed you back didn't I?"

"Good...I've been wanting to do that for so long." Wanda stated, Sokovian accent evident in the late hours, "I've been wanting you to do that for so long." Leigh responded, lacing her fingers with Wanda's, "I guess we're both kind of oblivious then," Wanda laughed, "I guess so." Leigh shrugged.

"Any requests?" Leigh asked motioning towards the keyboard, and Wanda shrugged, "Play whatever you want."

listen to you play your love songs all night long for me.
