CHAPTER TWELVE----▹

"What's going on with you today?" Natasha's voice rang through the room, and Leigh's head snapped in her direction, "Wha..what do you mean?" Leigh asked, with a shrug, "Well, you've been kind of out of it all day...did something happen?"

Leigh's gaze dropped to the floor, "Wanda kissed me." Natasha arched an eyebrow at the brunette, "And this is a good thing, yes?" Leigh nodded, a smile breaking out on her face.

The woman had struggled with the idea of letting herself be happy for years. She had blamed herself for the death of her best friend, she felt responsible for her mother leaving. Even though she knew that it wasn't anybody's fault but the woman who left.

"I really like her, I do but-" the green-eyed woman's voice trailed off, eyes moving from Natasha's features back to the ground. Love. She had been in love with Ally.

"But?" Natasha tilted Leigh's chin up, "Is this about-" she asked softly, "Yes." Leigh cut her off, and the redhead simply nodded. "I just...I just feel like I'm- I don't know..." she shook her head back and forth, blinking away tears that threatened to spill over, "Betraying her?"

Leigh nodded, unable to speak, "Flower..." Natasha opened her arms, and Leigh leaned into the hug. Natasha wasn't a big touchy-feely person with most people, but the young brunette was like her daughter. "You aren't betraying anyone by letting yourself be happy Leigh."

Natasha knew that Leigh wouldn't ever admit it but Ally had never been that good for her, the two girls had met as teenagers. And even though Ally was gone she still had too much control over Leigh's life. But all Natasha could do was urge Leigh to let herself be happy, and to let go of Ally.

Leigh pulled away from the hug, wiping away fallen tears, Natasha smiled at her softly, "So, I heard you singing yesterday....When's the album coming. I would buy the hell out of it." Leigh laughed, "I'm not a musician Nat, I'm a doctor...it feels so weird to be able to say that."

"You are in fact a doctor. And I'm very proud of you, but don't sell yourself short, you can write some lyrics." Leigh half-rolled her eyes, "Romanoff. Strange. We've got a lead on Rumlow." Steve alerted entering the room, "Wheels up in ten."

"Got it, Cap," Leigh spoke, mock saluting in the blonde man's direction, "I should-" Leigh started, "Go talk to Wanda before we leave? Yes, you should." Natasha urged, and the brunette sighed exasperated, "Fine. Fine."

-----

"Hey Wands, can I uh- can I come in?" she asked leaning against the door frame, the other woman shrugged, pulling on her green jacket. After a moment of standing in silence Wanda spoke up, "Did I do something wrong? I feel like I did something wrong."

Leigh shook her head, "You did absolutely nothing wrong," she quickly reassured, "Really? Cause with the cold shoulder I've been receiving all day, I thought I did something wrong." the Sokvoian spoke.

"I'm so sorry Wanda," Leigh stepped closer to the slightly taller woman, "If you didn't want to...start whatever it was we were starting you could've just said so." Wanda spoke looking down at her hands, chipped black nail polish coated over her nails. "I do though. After everything in Sokovia...I've enjoyed your company so much more then I like to admit. Everytime we ate pancakes for dinner, or watched that comedy you like so much, in your bed."

Wanda smiled slightly, "And I know that today was really kind of mean," Leigh fiddled with her rings, "This scares me Wands. How I feel about you terrifies me....but I don't ever want to lose you. I..." she took another step forward, taking Wanda's hands in her own, "I wanna be happy, and I want to do that wit you."

"Can I kiss you?" Wanda asked softly, "Hell yes." Leigh laughed softly, leaning forward into Wanda as the other woman cupped her face in a gentle kiss. Leigh pulled away first with a bright smile, she took the green baseball cap off the shelf next to them, placing it on Wanda's head, "We've got a mission to kick ass during,"

"Natasha sent me to get you two slow pokes." Pietro announced zooming into the room, and then back out just as quickly, "I am never going to get used to that. Between him and the robot, I'm gonna end up in cardiac arrest."

"Ok, old woman." Wanda teased, and Leigh's jaw dropped in offense, "How rude! And if I'm an old woman, at least I'm a hot old woman." Wanda leaned against her pressing a quick kiss to her cheek, "Very hot indeed."

LAGOS, SOME TIME LATER

"Alright what do you see?" Cap asked into the radio, Wanda pulled the tea cup away from her lips, "Standard beat cops. Small station. Quiet street. It's a good target." she noted, "There's an ATM on the South corner, which means?" he asked, "Cameras."

"Both cross streets are one-way" he continued, "So compromised escape routes." she glanced down at the newspapers laying on the table in front of her, all filled with flashy headlines, about their latest target. "Means our guy doesn't care about being seen and he isn't afraid to make a mess on the way out. You see that rangerover halfway up the block?"

"Yeah, the red one? It's cute." Wanda quipped, "It's also bullet proof, which means private security, which means more guns, which means more headaches for somebody, probably us." Natasha explained, before taking a sip of her own tea, from a couple tables away, "You mean definitely. It's always more headaches for us with these things." Leigh added.

"You guys know I can move things with my mind, right?" Wanda asked, "Looking over your shoulder needs to become second nature." Natasha said, causing Wanda to just that, her eyes meeting the redhead, "Anyone ever tell you, you're a little paranoid?" Sam asked, "Not too my face. Why? Did you hear something?"

"Eyes on target, folks." Steve interrupted, "Whatever, grandpa." Leigh mumbled, "This is the best lead we've had on Rumlow in six months. I don't wanna lose him." Sam scoffed, "If he sees us coming that won't be a problem, he kinda hates us."

The quiet street was soon filling with commotion, a garbage truck plowing through the streets. "Sam, see that garbage truck? Tag it." Steve instructed, and moments later Sam spoke up again, "That truck's loaded for max weight and the driver's armed."

"It's a battering ram." Natasha added, "Go now." Wanda looked up in surprise, "What?" Leigh moved into action checking her gun, "He's not hitting the police." Cap spoke before taking off in a sprint.

The garbage truck flipped over destroying a cement archway, "Shit," Leigh cursed, moving into action, "The way peace can be ruined in mere seconds." she muttered, "Body armour, AR-15s." Steve spoke into the radio, "I make seven hostiles."

"I make five." Sam said, after taking out two, Wanda came flying in behind him, landing an creating a shield with her magic, and practically tossing the man, "Sam." he knocked the man to the ground landing gracefully, "Four."

"Wow you guys are having all the fun, and I am still running down the stairs." Leigh spoke breathlessly, "Need a hand, slow poke?" Pietro asked zooming in, "I hate you so much." she grumbled, "Love you too, Strange." he sped to two of them to meet, the others.

"Could you not have used your own powers?" Natasha teased through the radio, "Damn it...it's not always the first thing I think of..."

"Rumlow's on the third floor." Sam announced.

"Wanda, just like we practiced." Steve directed, and Leigh jogged over to them, "What about the gas?"

"Get it out." he spoke, and Wanda used her powers to help launch the blonde man up through the window, "Me too," Leigh spoke nodding towards Wanda, "You that's a toxcin right? You can't go up there." Wanda said, "I'll be ok," Leigh pulled on the air filtering mask, "Ok..."

Leigh slowed everything on the floor down, even Cap's shield pausing mid air, "Really Leigh?" the super soilder asked exasperated, "Sorry! I'm having an off day," she defended, as the gas start draining out of the building a red mist surrounding it.

"Rumlow has a biological weapon." Steve alerted, "Damn, how'd he get that so fast?" Leigh muttered shaking her head. "I'm on it." Natasha spoke into the radio, her motorcycle reving in the background.

Upon hearing an explosion, Cap and Leigh ran through the building coming to one of the balachony type things, "Shit, is that him?" Leigh asked, and Steve just yanked her behind the shield,  the explosion only partially cut off sending them both flying backwards.

She lost consciousness briefly, and when her eyes fluttered back open Steve was already standing back up, he reached his arm out to her, "Don't look at me like that, not everyone can be super soldiers." she muttered groggily.

"We have to move." he urged, Rumlow was still shooting at them as they ran by each window, Leigh literally couldn't hear anything at this point, the ringing in her ears taking over everything. Steve fell down the side of the building and Leigh ended up falling almost just as far, "I don't really understand how my back isn't broken right now." she groaned, "Am I yelling? I can't tell since I can't hear." Steve nodded helping her move to her feet carefully.

"Sam. He's in an AFV heading north."
