010. it's in the trap

chapter ten
it's in the trap

Hours later, the group still sat on the bleacher, wondering where everyone went. They weren't bored per say, they were just confused on the sudden emptiness of the place. Mike looked at his watch once more before getting up and leaving the room, rushing back in a few moments later.

"They're gone." He stated.

"What?"

"Nancy and Jonathan." Mike explained. "His car's gone."

"They're probably just sucking face somewhere." Dustin shrugged.

"Gross!" Lucas exclaimed.

"No. No way!" Mike disagreed.

"Did they go with the chief?"

"No." El whispered.

"What? Did you see them? Do you know where they went?" Mike asked the girl.

"Yes." El nodded.

"Where? Where did they go?" Mike questioned.

"Demogorgon." El stated.

"This crazy!" Mike exclaimed. "We can't just wait around."

"Mike, in case you forgot, we're still fugitives." Lucas deadpanned. "The bad men are still looking for us."

"Yeah, and we don't even know where you sister is." Dustin added.

"El can find them." Mike shrugged determined.

"Mike, I am not letting you make her use her powers again, she's exhausted as it is." Avery told the boy, pointing a finger at the boy firmly.

"I think we should stick to the chief's plan." Dustin suggested.

"Exactly, we stay here, keep El out of sight and keep her safe. That's the most important thing remember?" Lucas stated. "Besides she's okay, she's with Jonathan."

"Yeah, and she's kind of a badass now, so..." Dustin trailed off. "And we have Avery so we'll be okay."

Dustin the turned and walked towards the exit, Mike shouting after him. "Well, where are you going? You just said stick to the plan!"

"I am. I'm going to go get chocolate pudding." Dustin called over his shoulder. "I'm telling you, Lunch Lady Phyllis hoards that shit."

"Are you serious?" Mike questioned as Lucas walked after Dustin.

"El needs to be recharged." Dustin shouted.

"Get me some!" Avery ordered him loudly.

"Sure!"

Avery smiled turning to El, who smiled at her before putting her head in the brunette's lap, handing Avery a book. Avery took the book from El, looking at the cover. Her eyebrows furrowed for a few moments, wondering where the book suddenly appeared from, looking over to see Avery's bag on the floor from where El must have picked it up, although it only had her book in it.

"Where did we get to?" Avery asked the girl rhetorically, opening Little Women to the right page.

"Chapter thirteen." El muttered.

Avery opened the book, finding chapter thirteen before beginning to read. "Laurie lay luxuriously swinging to and fro in his hammock, one warm September afternoon, wondering what his neighbors were about, but too lazy to go and find out. He was in one of his moods, for the day had been both unprofitable and unsatisfactory, and he was wishing he could live it over again. The hot weather made him indolent, and he had shirked his studies, tried Mr. Brookes patience to the utmost, displeased his grandfather by practicing half the afternoon-"

El smiled as Avery read. She had become quite fond of the book, Little Women, when Avery last read it to her and now made she had a copy for Avery to read if they ever got a change to stop like now.

James sat in the car as he watched Steve knock on the Byer's door. Steve had demanded that James accompany him if he was to apologise to Jonathan for breaking his camera and being a dick to him since they met. The boy was having no luck, until Nancy opened the door, confusing both Steve and James. When the boy pushed past Nancy and into the house, James got out of the car, following the boy.

"Great now James is here." Jonathan exclaimed as Nancy held her gun up to Steve, demanded he and James left.

"Guys, your lights." James pointed to the Christmas lights that were flashing.

Nancy's eyes widened, Jonathan grabbing the bat that was full of pins and standing back to back with Nancy as they frantically looked around.

"It's here." Jonathan stated.

"What's here?" Steve asked.

"Where is it?" Nancy questioned.

"Where is what?" Steve threw his hands up in the air.

"I don't know." Jonathan shook his head.

"I don't see it." Nancy looked around.

"Where is what?" James repeated Steve's words.

"Hello? Will someone please explain to us what the hell is going -"

Steve was cut off when the ceiling broke, a monstrous roar coming from the hole as everyone jumped, Nancy turning and shooting it with her gun.

"No!" Jonathan grabbed Nancy, running through the house. "Go! Go! Run!"

"Come on!" James followed Jonathan, grabbing Steve's arm as he did.

"Jump!"

"Jump!" James told Steve.

"Oh my god!" Steve exclaimed as they all jumped over the ear trap that was on the floor, running into Jonathan's bedroom and slamming the door behind them. "Jesus! Jesus! What the hell was that? What the hell was that?"

"Shut up!" Nancy and Jonathan order Steve in sync, turning to look at him before looking at the door as the monster screeched from the outside.

"What's it doing?" Nancy thought aloud.

"I don't know." Jonathan told her truthfully.

"Does this have something to do with Eleven or...?" The two teen spun to look at James when he spoke.

"You know Eleven?" Jonathan asked him.

"Uh, yeah, I found her with the boys." James explained.

"Well then, you have a lot to catch up on." Nancy told him. "Do you hear anything?"

"No." Jonathan stated, opening the door.

The group carefully and quietly left Jonathan's room, making their way back towards the living room. They all looked around for the monster, but it was seemingly nowhere to be found. Jonathan stood in the middle of the living room, his bat in his hand, Nancy doing the same with her gun in her hand.

"This is crazy. This is crazy. This is crazy." Steve muttered over and over again, rushing over to the phone and punching in a few numbers before Nancy moved over to him.

"What are you do -" Steve exclaimed when Nancy threw the phone across the room. "What are you doing? Are you insane?"

"It's going to come back! So you need to leave. Right now." Nancy ordered the boy, who looked between James, Jonathan and Nancy before running to the door.

Jonathan turned to James when he didn't leave. The two shared a look before James nodded. Jonathan looked around, gesturing to the room.

"Take your pick." Jonathan stated.

James quickly picked up the katana looking sword. "Where did you get this?"

"You'd be surprised what we can find in Hawkins." Nancy shrugged. James twirled the katana around, the two staring at him weirdly.

"I did a lot of martial arts and stuff as a kid." James shrugged.

"Weird kid."

No one got to reply to Jonathan's statement when the lights started flickering again, the three quickly going back to back as they spun around the room.

"Where is it?" Nancy asked.

"Come on. Come on, you son of a bitch." Jonathan encouraged.

"You see it?" James asked.

"No where -"

"Come on!" Jonathan exclaimed. "Where are you? Come on!"

The lights suddenly went out, the only sound being Nancy's heavy breathing until a low growling began. James and Nancy spun around to see it behind Jonathan.

"Jonathan!" Nancy and James exclaimed, making the boy spin around. Jonathan yelped, the monster pinning him down on the floor. "Jonathan!"

"Get off of him!" James swung the katana at the monster, it turning to him as James backed up.

"Go to hell, you son of a bitch." Nancy began to shoot at him this time the monster beginning to walk towards her as she continued to shoot, her gun quickly running out of bullets.

Nancy panicked when Steve ran in, hitting the monster with Jonathan's discarded bat.

"Steve!"

The monster roared swinging at Steve, who ducked, James swinging this time. James and Steve stood side by side as they began to fight off the monster, backing up down the hallway until it was in the trap.

"He's in the trap!" Jonathan exclaimed making James and Steve stop. "He's stuck."

"Jonathan now!" Nancy exclaimed.

Jonathan quickly ran over to them, sparking his lighter and throwing it towards the monster. The monster screeched as it lit on fire as the four watched it. Jonathan grabbed a fire extinguisher, spraying it at the fire. The four coughed as smoke filled the air, all panting as they neared where the monster previously was.

"Where did it go?" Jonathan asked.

"It has to be dead." Steve stated. "It has to be."

The four looked down at the floor, the only thing left being the trap covered in a purple goo.

"It has to be." The four made their way back into the living room, watching as all the lights lit up.

"Mom?" Jonathan stared at the lights.

Steve, Nancy and James followed Jonathan outside, the four staring at the crackling light outside the Byers house.

"Where's it going?"

"I don't think that's the monster." Jonathan spoke.
