Chapter 4

~※~

The girl knew she would go back to this surreal place once again. Despite how crazy this all seemed, the look in Lord Morpheus' eyes convinced her that every single thing was true.

She was skeptic at first, but the moment her head touched her pillow and the smell of salty air became eminent, she knew she was back. But instead of finding herself laying on a field of grass like last time, she was now sitting under a tree with glowing fruits. Her PJ's were transformed once again to the plain white sundress that she was growing to like. It was night time and the light from the fruits were piercing through the darkness strong enough for her to see the edge of the cliff just a few meters in front of her.

Even with her sudden vertigo, she crawled on all fours to take a peek on what's on the edge of that cliff. She thought there could be a deep chasm waiting for her but she was wrong; at the base of the cliff was a beach, softly illuminated by the bright bluish moon. She could hear how the waves would crash on to the shore and as she turned her head slightly to the left, her gaze landed on what seemed to be a path leading down to the it.

She wanted to go down and survey the beach below, she thought of how beautiful the place might be during the day. So as soon as her head was settled, she went towards the pathway and descended. But after the first few steps, she bumped in to an unseen wall of some sort. Just as she laid her right hand on the force-field, the symbol on the back of her right hand glowed a pale yellow.

She can't tell what might've caused it but she was sure it has something to do with Lord Morpheus' deal.

'To stay here and live forever in dream or to leave this place and go back to a reality where you can die.'

I don't have to think it through, she thought to herself, I already made my decision. I will go back; but I'll stay here and enjoy the trial period... it'll be a nice change to have some excitement in my life for once.

A bright light flashed from behind her making her turn to its direction. Sure enough, the cute boy she met the other night had already arrived. He was wearing the same white attire he was wearing yesterday and looked just as handsome as he did before, especially now with his hair down and a bit messy.

"You're late." She said with a smile on her face. She didn't mean to sound flirty, she was just really happy she gets to see him again.

The boy turned around and saw her. "I guess it wasn't just a dream after all." He said as he massaged his temples. "If this keeps us, my head will explode."

"The pain will go away eventually." A voice said from behind them, "Come now, Lord Morpheus is eager to continue our discussion last night."

Axel and the girl turned around to see Dalton wearing the same suit and eye-patch as before. Surprisingly, the throbbing in his head suddenly stopped.

"Quickly now, Lord Morpheus hates waiting." He said before turning away, expecting the two dreamers to follow him.

"We can't." The girl's voice said, making Dalton turn around and and raised his eyebrow, "And why not?"

"I tried. There seems to be some barrier stopping me before."

Dalton smiled at the girl with amusement, "That is meant as a containment system for dreamers like you. Here in the White Realm, a 'buddy-system' is strictly implemented. Since this is where you two first arrived at, this will be your usual starting point. You have to wait for each other before you wander around the rest of the realm. Now that your pair is here, you both are now free to roam about. Check for yourself."

The girl took a several steps forward and noticed that Dalton was right. With that, the boy followed both of them to the same clearing they sat at before.

Sitting behind the table was Lord Morpheus, exactly as he remembered him before... only now he had a pair of black-rimmed glasses on.

"Welcome back." The King of dreams greeted. "Sit down, we have much to discuss."

They did as they were told and Dalton made his way to Lord Morpheus' right side. The boy glanced at her and noticed that she was looking at him, he silently mouthed if she was ok wherein she answered positively with a nod.

"Straight to business." Morpheus said as he leaned forward to them. "I wasn't kidding when I told you that you can't back out of this. Every night for two months, you two along with the other dreamers will spend the night here, it's not that hard to understand right? But do you have any questions so far?"

~*~

Axel tried to process what Morpheus said the night before, "What exactly can we expect to happen in these lucid dreams?"

"That will depend on you. You can do whatever you want as long as it doesn't cause harm to the other dreamers. Although, I will be interfering with your dreaming once a week, consider it as a type of test to see how you're coping up."

"My Lord," the girl spoke up, "you mentioned us being the last pair for this cycle, does that mean there are other dreamers like us?"

"But of course." He answered, "There are about 150 pair of dreamers here in the White Realm. Each pair is randomly chosen but specifically paired up with another dreamer with the same timezones."

"What about the White Realm? Where's that?"

Morpheus gestured to his side and said, "Welcome to the White Realm. It's a place specifically made for those who experience lucid dreaming. Its under my dominion but sometimes, the other Endless pops on every once in a while to mess around with my dreamers."

"But isn't this Fiddler's Green? Dalton mentioned it before."

"Ah, but this is only part of the realm." Morpheus answered, "Some of the dreamers' starting point are in the Glass City itself; some by the Cural Falls. Even so, what you see and everything in it is part of the White Realm. Once you enter it, the doors will always be open for you."

The King of dreams then laid back on his chair, carefully eyeing the young dreamers on how they react. "If there are no more questions, let's proceed to the terms and conditions."

"Condition 1: Practice Anonymity." He then turned to Axel, "Try saying your name, lad."

Axel did as he was told, but as soon as the words left his lips, no sound ever came out. Worried, he turned to Morpheus and asked, "What happened? My voice.. it was gone."

A smirked played on his lips, "During your time here, you are not allowed to utter a word about who you are in the waking world. That's why I've made some special precautions for it."

The girl pouted, "Then how would you expect us to communicate if we can't even call each other by our names?"

Come to think of it, Axel doesn't even know what the girl's name was. But considering its only been their second meeting, he shouldn't feel too awkward. Besides, she doesn't even know who he was as well.

Lord Morpheus shrugged and flicked his wrists. Suddenly, the symbol on Axel's hand started to glow yet again; this time a name appeared just below the known insignia.

'Orpheus'

"Those will be your names here in my realm. I hope you don't mind." The King of Dreams smirked, "I have a rather eccentric way of choosing names."

Truthfully speaking, Axel doesn't mind the name; it actually reminds him of the name of Italy's team back in the FFI. He looked at the girl and saw her looking at her new name.

"Guess I'll be calling you 'Eurydice' from now on." He said with a smile.

The girl, now called Eurydice looked at him and smiled, "And as twisted as it may sound, I'll be calling you Orpheus."

"Now for Condition 2: Anyone caught revealing their real name will have their contracts terminated. That being said means you won't be able to finish your trial period."

"If that does happen, how what happens to our pairs?" Eurydice asked.

"They will have the opportunity to continue the trial period and have the opportunity to make the final decision without you."

"Now, for Condition 3: No Violence allowed. When socializing with other dreamers, make sure there won't be any fights and whatnot. I'd hate to see my sister Death ruining my fun with the dreamers."

"My Lord," Dalton interrupted, leaning towards Morpheus, "I'm afraid their time is almost up, we have to finish what we can before they wake up."

"Of course." He answered as he turned to them once more, "Don't worry, starting tomorrow you'll have longer time to dream. Anyway, I'll be assigning Dalton here as your facilitator. He'll answer your questions and help you get settled in this Realm. Now if you'll excuse me..." Morpheus stood up and walked away from them as he combed his fingers through his hair, "...I need to make sure my brother won't ruin things for any of us."

Lord Morpheus then disappeared within the shadows without a trace.

"So, any more questions before you leave?" Dalton asked as he sat on the office chair.

"I still got a few if you don't mind." Axel said, "How did Lord Morpheus knew it was already time for us to go?"

Dalton answered his question by pointing at the rising sun. "The time here works a bit differently than the waking world. The time of day changes each passing night, so it doesn't really follow the waking world's time. For example, when you first came here, it was morning right? And tonight, its night time. That means tomorrow, it'll be morning again and the night after that will be night time again, did you get the pattern?"

"So that means, every night will have an alternate change from night to day?"

"Precisely. But you don't have to worry about that. Usually you'd just wake up on your own anyway so you won't have to check the time."

"Oh, ok." Axel said as he thought of his other questions, "Here's another one. Why can't I remember how everything looks like in my dreams? I mean, I can remember pretty much everything else like how something feels and smell. Why can I remember Lord Morpheus' appearance clearly but I can't remember yours?"

"That's because dreams are meant to leave impressions, not vivid images. Your mind immediately hid the visions of your dreams as soon as you woke up." Dalton answered, "And since Lord Morpheus is the King of Dreams, its probably out of respect that you remembered he looked like even when you're awake."

Dalton took a quick glance at the sky before turning his attention to the dreamers, "We'll continue this tomorrow. I suggest you get to know each other better since you two will be staying in the same apartment starting tomorrow night."

"What?" Axel said in surprise, "I don't see why we have to."

"Ah but you should. Dreaming can tire a person out and since you two are going to have a longer time to dream, you'll need a place of your own like the rest of the dreamers. Of course, you are also given some perks during your trial-period."

"I guess it can't be helped." Eurydice said. She then turned to Axel and smiles warmly at him, "I hope we get along, Orpheus."

~*~

Axel woke up feeling rather strange. His heart was thumping louder than usual and he can feel his cheeks getting warm. He sat up and looked at the back of his right hand, sure enough the symbol wasn't there. Even so, he still doesn't feel right.

For some strange reason, he wanted to remember what Eurydice looked like, but all he could respond to was his fast-beating heart and his slightly warm face.

That's because dreams are meant to leave impressions, not vivid images

Dalton's voice rang clearly in his mind. If that's how its gonna be, then every time he wanted to think about Eurydice, this will be his body's reaction to it. Great.

He sighed and slowly massaged his temples, oddly enough he felt rejuvenated rather than being tired like he always does. This must be one of the perks of lucid dreaming.

"I guess tonight, Orpheus and Eurydice will see each other again."he said with a smile, "I can't wait to see what happens next."

That's chapter 4!!!

The image above is Lord Morpheus and please don't get mad about the new cover, I did my best to edit it.

So just to sum it up, Axel's name in the White Realm will be Orpheus (Or-fe-yus). Eurydice is pronounced as (Yu-ri-di-see) I kinda got the pronounciation wrong at first haha

Anyway, I'm sorry if it all seems a bit confusing. I really did try my best even if it was a bit rushed. See, our final exam will be on the 8th and I kinda felt bad about not being able to update....so I rushed this one!

I really hope you like it!
