002
LEE SEUNGHOON woke up due to the metallic sound of his alert. he attempted to remain in bed for a couple more minutes, although it was senseless. only seconds later the small wooden door to his room was opened and his grandmother appeared in the doorframe, hands on her hips. "time to get up, young man!" she said in a demanding, yet kind tone. "i won't let you be late for school on the first day after the summer holidays."
her grandson was well aware of the truth in her words, so he forced himself to get up, while the old woman left to the kitchen. with a sigh he rolled up his mat and went to the bathroom in order to brush his teeth. about fifteen minutes later seunghoon entered the small kitchen, looking like a perfect average highschool student wearing his school uniform.
a wide smile showed on his grandmother's face, as she looked at him up and down and placed a small breakfast on the table. "that's my boy! i won't let the neighbours say something bad about you ever again, you're from the lee family after all!" and like this she went on ranting about how the neighbours had complained about seunghoon being late for school once in a while.
after seunghoon had finished munching down his breakfast, he bid his goodbye to his grandmother and stepped out of the small house.
although it was a very humble and rather traditional home, he could look all over the town from there and when the sun would set over the lake, he felt as if he was actually rich; not of money, but rich of the beauty. but that's enough of epic stories for now.
seunghoon turned to the left, where the street would slowly go downhills. about half a kilometre further he stopped by and rang his friend's door, so they could proceed their way to school together.
the best part was, that his friend, kim jinwoo, had gotten a bike for his birthday two years ago. so ever since this lucky day they wouldn't have to walk all the way to school. jinwoo would cycle down the hill in the morning with seunhoon on the porter and in the afternoon seunghoon would be the one cycling back up the hill with jinwoo on the porter this time, because he had stronger legs due to being in the football team.
suddenly the door opened, pulling seunghoon away from his thoughts. jinwoo was struggling to get the bike out of the door while his friend didn't intend to move an inch, until latter finally realized what was going on. "you seem just as motivated as i feel, nah?" nudged jinwoo and placed his bike on the pavement in front of his house.
"what is motivation even..." mumbled seunghoon as jinwoo swung his leg over the bike and got on the porter.
with one hand he held onto the saddle and placed the other one on jinwoo's shoulder. "no homo though" he smirked, causing his friend to crack a laugh as well. nevertheless jinwoo had started cycling a little wobbly meanwhile, he added "the kids who said that can all rot in hell, it's not like we have another choice anyways."

since their town and school were so small every grade had only one to two main classes. in case of the four friends, their grade had two classes. jinwoo went to the same class as his friend kang seungyoon, while seunghoon shared his main class with nam taehyun; though all of them had some other courses together.
on that very first day after the summer break, seungyoon and jinwoo had their very first lesson with mr. han, who was known for being the strictest teacher at their school, even when compared to the other already very strict teachers.
due to that all the students were already sitting on their seats and waiting for the horror to go by. seungyoon slightly leaned over to jinwoo's table, so they'd be able to talk white pausing until the lesson started.
with a loud noise the door was smashed open by mr. han, who was dragging another boy in school uniform behind him. everything about the boy's expression revealed, that he'd rather be in any place in the world than here.
seungyoon caught a glimpse at jinwoo's face and smirked, knowing that his first intuition about the new boy hadn't been wrong.
"hello, my name is song minho and i recently moved here from seoul." the stranger introduced himself and mr. han demanded him to sit on the empty seat, which was diagonally behind seungyoon and jinwoo. the lesson went by just like every other lesson with mr. han in basically every school year, but the students were excited: they had rarely ever gotten new students, simply because no one moved to this part of the country, especially not from the capital.
later the friends met with seunghoon and taehyun at their usual table on the school yard.
"well, i heard that we have a new student?" asked taehyun just as excited as everyone else.
"yeah we do! his name is song minho and he moved here from seoul, right jinwoo?" nagged seungyoon and nudged said boy's side.
"well..." jinwoo joined their conversation. "he's hot!"
"UHHHHH!" exclaimed the others and seungyoon decided to top it all. "should we change seats during the next period, if it helps you to sit closer to him."
but jinwoo just rolled his eyes. "mrs. byun will kill me!"
"i hope she doesn't kill you though, you're needed here." said taehyun and laughed, while seunghoon who handn't taken part in their chat yet butted in. "is that th minho guy over there?" he nodded his head into the direction, where the new boy was sitting at one of the tables alone.
"yep, that's him." mumbled jinwoo and awkwardly chewed on his lips.
"humm" seunghoon glanzed over his shoulder to look at the unfamiliar guy once again and shrugged. "well, we will see."
while the others went on rambling about the new guy, he lied his head on the table and closed his eyes. he knew that everyone was excited and it annoyed him. don't get him wrong, he loved his friends dearly but somehow he felt intimidated by the presence of the new guy.
the whole situation just gave him a bad vibe and he was scared of what could happen, especially to jinwoo.
seunghoon wasn't able to get rid off the feeling all day until he stood on the soccer field late in the afternoon. although he knew he wouldn't have a future as a soccer player, the sport never felt to ease his mind. on the field they were all the same and they all played an important role, unlike in school and in the town.
that day he was the last one to finish taking a shower and changing after the practise, but seungyoon waited for him regardless.
they walked together in silence until their ways parted and seunghoon was forced to walk halfway up the hill.
when he reached the diner, jinwoo, who had finished his shift working for his parents, was already waiting for him outside. "you're late today!"
"i know, i just have to get used to school again." mumbled seunghoon and took the bike from jinwoo. "come on, let's go home."
even though his legs were burning with pain, seunghoon didn't make a noise until jinwoo was inside his house. slowly he walked further up the hill until he reached his own home, where he was greeted by his grandmother. "how was your day in school? i am so proud of you, seunghoonie!" she awed with her old voice and demanded seunghoon to sit at the table.
while waiting for her to finish cooking, he told her everything about the new student and the soccer practise. he loved his grandmother a lot, more than his actual parents even. "uum do we still have herb balm against muscle pain? i think i could use some of this right now."
and his grandmother always new a cure, just like his friends.
