"So you're telling me that you, Miss Potter, Mr. Black, and Mr. Pettigrew are taking a vow of silence until December 5th?" McGonagall asked James, eyebrow arched.
He scribbled furiously on his chalkboard. Holding it up, it read: That's correct, Professor.
"And why, might I ask, are you taking this vow?"
I was expecting a question like this and already had an answer written down. Holding up my chalkboard, it read: Because we made a bet with Remus. He doesn't believe that we can be silent for a whole month. We're proving him wrong. You understand, don't you, Professor?
"If it will keep the castle quieter, of course I understand, Miss Potter," she replied, pinching the bridge of her nose. "You four are dismissed."
Once outside of her office, we high fived excitedly and headed off to the Gryffindor common room where Remus was waiting for us. The other professors had been slightly confused by our "vow of silence" but they decided to just go with it.

Earlier that morning, at sunrise to be exact, James, Sirius, Peter and I had woken up and snuck out of the dorm, careful not to wake Remus. We hurried towards the room where we had hidden the potion and mandrake leaves (an abandoned classroom in a hidden sixth floor corridor). Once inside, I locked the door securely behind us. As Sirius and Peter checked on the potion (that we had spent months perfecting), James and I grabbed the leaves. On the count of three, we each put one in our mouths. It tasted awful and I almost spit mine out. But thinking about how much this would help Remus, I kept it in. Glancing around, I saw that the others had had similar reactions of disgust. Pushing it to the side of my mouth, I folded the stem over with my tongue so it wouldn't scratch the back of my throat. Thankfully, the night before we had already figured out how to avoid speaking. Sirius pulled the four chalkboards and chalk pieces out of the bag we had stashed in here earlier in the year. Tying mine around my neck, I checked the potion one more time before unlocking the door and leaving with the others. The potion would be needed on December 5th (assuming that none of us messed up and had to start over).
Eating was the one obstacle we had not been expecting. I had to be careful with the way I chewed. I had to keep the leaf perfectly secured against my cheek before I took a drink of anything. Everything that I ate now had a weird taste to it and I didn't enjoy the experience at all.
Our story explaining our month of silence for Remus (and everyone else that had asked) was different than the one we had told McGonagall. I believe Sirius's exact words were: We are showing you exactly how bland and boring your lives are without our beautiful voices.
Of course, Remus didn't buy it. As much as I hated keeping Remus in the dark, it was for his own good. We knew that if we told him, he would try to stop us. We had all agreed that there would be a massive surprise party to show him when we completed all the steps and were official (and illegal) animagi.

Reaching the common room, I flopped onto the couch and rested my head in Remus's lap. Looking down, he smiled slightly before returning to his book. Peter sat down on the floor. James and Sirius dropped into the chairs by the fire, bored looks on their faces.
At that moment, Lily walked in and, after moving my feet, sat down on the other end of the couch, finally finished with her perfect duty for the night. James perked up instantly.
"So you're still staying silent?' She asked me.
I nodded.
James, who had been scribbling on his board frantically, suddenly shoved it underneath Lily's nose.
Fancy a date in Hogsmeade, Lilyflower?
" I'd rather rot in Azkaban," she spat. "Even if you are remaining silent for a month, you're still an insufferable toe-rag."
Sirius smirked before writing on his board: Shots fired. I bet I can get a date to Hogsmeade.
You're dating my sister. You already have a date to Hogsmeade, Sirius. James wrote back.
"Come with me," Lily decided, grabbing my arm and yanking me off of Remus.
Since I couldn't write anything to ask her where we were going or why, I mutely allowed her to drag me away. She lead me upstairs into our dorm, which I had only entered a few times in the past months to grab clothes and other necessities.
As Lily shut the door behind us, I sat down on my bed and began writing.
Why did you drag me here? I haven't done anything wrong, have I?
"You know, you can speak in here. I won't tell the boys," Lily began. When all I did was look at her, she continued, "No, you haven't done anything wrong. But, you have been spending way too much time with them. As much as I ship Laurius, you need to be around other people too. So, at lea-"
I held up a hand to cut her off. She gave me a puzzled look.
What the hell is Laurius?
"It's your ship name! Laura + Sirius = Laurius," she explained.
Okay. Continue
"Anyways," she huffed. "At least one night a week, you will sleep in our dorm. All the other nights of the week, you can sleep wherever you want to. Okay?" Lily asked.
Fine.
I rolled my eyes and flopped back on my bed dramatically.
"You'll thank me for this, Laura. Now, what do you want to do tonight?"
Raising up, I answered: Doctor Who marathon?
"You know that muggle technology doesn't work at Hogwarts," she replied.
That wasn't exactly true. There were a couple of 'frowned upon' spells that worked. But since Lily would never go for that, there was one room that allowed muggle stuff to work (legally).
It does in the Room of Requirement.
"What's the Room of Requirement?" She asked.
Follow me.
Grabbing her wrist, I opened our dorm door and lead her to down the stairs and to the portrait hole.
Right before we left, Remus called, "Where are you two going?"
"The library," Lily said over her shoulder.
Once in the empty corridor, I gave Lily an appraising look. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that Lily Evans would lie.
"Don't give me that look," she said, shoving me lightly. "Now, show me this Room you speak of."
Linking my arm through her's, I lead her to the seventh floor. Once there, I let go of her and paced back and forth three times. Lily was looking at me like I had lost my mind. But, as a door appeared, a look of awe crossed her face.
Smirking, I opened the door and gestured for her to enter. Inside was the comfiest couch you could ever imagine touching. Piled on one end of it was multiple blankets. On the wall was a large TV. Sitting on the coffee table in front of the couch was all the seasons of Doctor Who and a large bowl of popcorn.
Lily sat down on the couch, almost disappearing in the large cushions, and sighed contentedly. Curling up next to her, I pulled a blanket over us and watched as the first episode began to play.
Thanks, Lils. I guess I do need some girl time.
"Any time, Laura."
