Night Life

=Eloise=

"This is insane." I sounded excitedly as we walked around and looked at all of the custom work on the various cars, trucks, and motorcycles. "So why can't my sister or Dorian know about this again?"

Megan had left us to join her boyfriend as he prepared to race.

I was half expecting Clem to answer but it was Belinda who spoke up.

"Our community is great, but it can be pretty restricting." She said, "look around, how do you think your sister would react if she found out you were hanging out with older guys who drive cars that aren't even street legal?"

I did take a look around.

For the most part everyone just seemed to be having a good time but knowing Juliette, she definitely would flip out.

"Okay, I get it...but I'm not like my sister."

"We know." Clem said with a smirk, "I could tell when I approached you, you had that same boring stare we all had when the dean of admissions showed us around...like you're almost being forced to go to school and be as perfect as your family."

She had sort of hit the nail on the head.

"...so what do you want to do Eloise?"

I shrugged, this was the first time anyone really asked me that, "well I like to write, but I'm not trying to make a career out of it.

"Why not?" Belinda asked.

"I feel like when it becomes a job, it'll become a chore...something I have to do, then I'll lose my love for it."

Both girls nodded in understanding.

Before any of us could say anything else four extremely loud motorcycles rolled in and passed right by us.

As they drove forward everyone there seemed to stop what they were doing just to watch the foursome make their way across the open field. And I was no exception as I looked at one of the masked figures in the front.

When they passed Clem, Belinda, and I, the person wearing the full helmet turned to look in my direction.

Call me crazy, but I could swear he was looking at me.

It was intriguing as I couldn't see this persons face but I knew fully well they could see me.

I became ultra aware of myself, but still I couldn't look away from the rider even though I knew I was openly staring at them. When they got far enough away the one stopped looking in our direction and rode on.

"Who in the hell was that?" I asked almost out of breath, like the stare of the mystery person had sucked out my life force.

Clem sighed and shook her head but Belinda nudged her and motioned to the same group as they'd stopped their bikes now.

With their motorcycles now off everyone went back to their previous activities and the four dismounted their bikes before removing their helmets.

They were all guys, and they were all very good looking.

Amidst my staring I was caught when my eyes locked onto a pair of rather intense, vivid blue eyes. The guy seemed to stare at me intently before sizing me up.

"Eloise, you okay girl?" I turned to see Clem.

I nodded as I tried to shake myself out of the hold the unknown guy had put me under.

"Anyways, before you blanked on us, Belinda was about to tell you about The Wild Ones."

"The Wild Ones?" I asked.

Clem looked back at the group of guys that had just rode in. "That's what everyone calls them, really they're just a group of friends from a neighboring town, their name comes from there leader Roc Wylde."

"Yeah, it's a neighboring town we don't exactly get along with." Belinda added.

"Technically Dorian doesn't like Roc." Clem corrected.

"Who's Roc?" I asked wrapped up in the conversation, completely oblivious to the stranger walking behind us.

"Ladies."

We all turned only to find the handsome guy with the intense eyes. He was only passing by but I had seen enough to know that his piercing blue eyes seemed to glow in contrast to his deep black hair, a cocky sort of grin raised one side of his face in a devilishly good looking smirk.

And all of it made me want to follow behind him, just to get him to look at me.

"THAT was Roc."

"Wh-who is he?" I questioned a tad speechless.

Clem sighed again, "like we said, he's some hot shot from the next town over, all of these towns are either allies or 'rivals' if you will...but there is no bigger rivalry than the one Dorian and Roc have."

"Why?" I asked knowing they knew more than they were telling me, "what happened?"

She shrugged so I turned to Belinda, "beats me." She sounded. "I'm sure your sister would know, but if you ask her she'll know you were here and crossed paths with him."

I knew she was telling me to drop it and not dig into anything that might get all of us in trouble.

I dropped it.

And I even did my best to move around the open field in an attempt to avoid looking over at that man.

But it seemed like everywhere I went, he wasn't too far away.

"We're gonna sit and watch some races." Belinda sounded. "Go grab some seats and I'll get us some drinks."

I nodded and made my way toward some bleachers.

With the bleachers and concession stand I couldn't help but wonder if this was once a sports field?

I found an area that would seat Clem, Belinda, and I and took a seat immediately before someone else came along.

I looked around for Clem (as I knew Belinda was in the long line at the concession stand) but I couldn't find her.

"You're new here."

The sound of this voice made a deep shiver run all the way up my back in excitement.

I had only heard it once before but already it was one I recognized well.

Slowly I turned and found the guy, Roc, seated right behind me.

"I am." I somehow replied.

"And what brings you by my field?"

I scoffed, "I wasn't aware this field actually belonged to anyone." I stated, "in any case, I was brought here by some friends."

He nodded. "What's your name?"

This insane sensation filled me as I listened to him talk, I paused for a second so I could collect myself. "Eloise Hart."

"Is that a real name?"

"Of course it is!" I snapped, "and what about you?"

"Roc."

"Roc?" I sounded, "like that's any better than Eloise."

He chuckled handsomely, "you're feisty." He smirked. "Roc is short for Rocco...you can see now why I use Roc."

"I like Rocco better."

"You're the only one Hart." He said with a very dangerous smile.

My heart nearly skipped a beat as his vivid eyes looked right at me, his use of a nickname had me fighting back a smile, no ones ever used a nickname for me before. And his saying it spoke to my soul.

"So really, what brings you here...you staying around here or something?" He practically purred.

I nodded, "yeah just moved in with my sister, figured I'd stick around for a while." I added to seem nonchalant and clever.

"Can I ask where you're staying?"

I didn't see the harm in telling him. "A small town not too far from here...Harmond."

He looked down at me as if trying to figure something out before he finally got up to leave. "It was nice meeting you Hart, if you ever find Harmond too small, and you will, or if you just want to see me again, come find me in Springwell."

And just like that he hopped down from the high bleachers and began walking away.

Once again I wanted to follow him, but why...what would I even say? I remained in my seat and awaited the arrival of my new friends.
