Good Samaritan
-Juliette-
The day my sister brought Grace over she ended up telling me everything that was going on.
And for as sad as I was Dorian and I officially never going to be together ever again, and coming to grips with having to let him go...when my sister told me about the Harmond pack members I couldn't help but get angry.
I needed to be there for them, I needed to make sure they were alright, that they weren't being separated, but I knew I couldn't just go over to the pack house because of the councils ruling.
In the next couple of days after Eloise had brought Grace over to visit, things became hectic and to make matters worse, I was stuck in the house.
"What's wrong sweet Juliette?" Diane asked.
We were making enough sandwiches to feed an army.
"I know Eloise told us that the Harmond pack members were here for protection purposes, but I hate that I'm not there with them, helping them...they're my people!"
She gave me a sympathetic smile.
"I know this can't be easy for you my dear, of course you are more than welcome to come with me to deliver the lunches, for now, this is as much as we can do."
"B-But I thought I was stuck in the house."
She laughed a little, "oh Juliette dear, who said you were stuck in the house?"
"But the council...-"
"Never said you were a prisoner here, you just can't stay in the pack house...we never push you to go out becauE we don't want to come off as too pushy or anything, but you're free to go and come anywhere in this pack...do you honestly think my son or your sister would hold you here against your will?"
I blushed a little, I felt more than a little embarrassed. "Seems like I was letting my own sadness make me a prisoner."
She offered me a soft smile, "Well we're almost done here...go up and get dressed and we'll leave soon."
I didn't protest, I knew I couldn't wait to see everyone and as much as I wished we could be doing every little bit helped.
When we finally got to the place I had only known as the field I saw what seemed to be an impromptu trailer park and a few of those portable storage containers you would find behind large department stores trying to move inventory.
Everyone seemed so genuinely excited to see us, I hugged everyone happily and cried with others before Diane and I got down to distributing the brown bag lunches.
"Wow Roc and Eloise have really got everything set up haven't they?" I asked in awe as we walked around.
"Well it really is quite impressive but Rocco and Eloise have been busy with the logistical side trying to get these people to become permanent pack members." Diane filled me in, "it's Dylan who has been manning the front on this."
"Dylan?"
"Yes dear, from what Rocco told me, Dylan volunteered without even being asked, he found them room and board when they first arrived, but he didn't stop there, afterward he personally came down to the field, got in contact with an associate of his and got all of these trailers for the families, there are even trailers in the woods for the security detail." Diane continued to fill me in.
"Dylan did all of this?" I asked touched...I knew he had nothing to gain from helping, and yet he still did went out of his way to make sure everyone was not only safe and together, but as comfortable as possible.
"I have quite a few more trips to the car to make, the ladies here can finish handing these out...but why don't you go and take these to the guard trailers, they're just over there and I'd hate if they didn't have anything to eat considering they're doing so much."
Once again I did as I was told and gladly took the box of bagged lunches over to the trailers in the woods.
"Hey you're not cleared to go over there." A guy sounded.
"O-oh I just came with Diane, we brought lunches for everyone."
"What's your name?" The guy asked skeptically.
"Juliette Hart."
"You Luna Hart's sister?" He questioned me once more.
I nodded...but before I could say anything a masculine voice I had begun to recognize sounded from behind me.
"She's clear Thomas."
"Sure thing Dylan." The guy said, I handed him a lunch bag and he waved us a goodbye.
"Glad to see you out and about." He said with a kind smile "and being a Good Samaritan no less."
I blushed, and I don't even know why.
For the first time ever I didn't know what to say or how to act around him, I felt a little shy and possibly even nervous...I mean last time we did sort of blow up at one another.
"J-just bringing by lunches with Diane." I replied.
"Look Jules...about last time-"
"It's in the past, and if I'm being honest I really needed to hear it...you were surprisingly right, I have been holding onto my pain almost like it was my life support." I admitted pathetically. "I won't lie, it hasn't been easy trying to move on from my mate of two years, but none of that makes my blowing up at you alright, I really sorry Dylan."
"No, I'm sorry...I was trying to push you when you weren't ready."
I shook my head, "no, you were trying to get me to see the truth and I was being too stubborn to accept it...every morning I've even started writing in a journal, it helps some."
"I'm glad you've found an outlet." He smirked.
"Yeah well you weren't around." I idiotically blurted playfully.
At this he chuckled, "I told you to come and find me when you were ready...I realize you won't be ready for, well for anything like THAT any time soon, but we can at least be friends."
I nodded, "I'd like that...and I also want to say thank you."
"What for Jules?"
I smiled, "for just being you."
He pulled me into a One armed hug and I didn't even mind, to be honest it felt sorta good to be hugged by someone other than Eloise and Roc.
"How's Grace?" I asked as we both began walking toward the guard trailer.
"She's great, she's at daycare right now but I should be picking her in about an hour, I'll have to pick up a happy meal or something on the way before I drop her off at the pack house."
"Well, how about I pick her up?" I offered.
"I couldn't ask you to do that Juliette, you see it's not only picking her up , it's feeding her and she'd have to stay the night because I've been running things around here non-stop."
"You didn't ask, I offered." I pointed out, "plus it's not like I'm of any other use, I'm on my way to Diane's to help with dinner anyways, we've got a couple of Harmond ack members staying with us there as well so I'm sure Diane wouldn't mind another little mouth to feed."
"Are you sure about this Jules?"
"Dylan, I promise I will watch your daughter for you, I will take care of her as if she were my own, hell I'll more than likely take care of her better than I've ever taken care of myself." I chuckled.
"You don't know how much of a help that would be to me Jules...I love her but you can't begin to imagine how tough this single parent thing is."
He was right, I couldn't imagine.
"Well I'm willing to help in any way I can, for as long as you need."
He nodded and we went on.
__________
"You ready to go dear?" Diane asked about an hour later.
I nodded before turning to face Dylan.
"You sure you're up for this?" He asked. "I know she's tiny, but she can be a handful at times."
I could see the worry written on his face and I found it kinda cute that he was so overprotective of his daughter.
"I promise I will text when we get to Diane's, and again after we have dinner, and then I'll let her call you before we go to bed."
He sighed, "I promise I'll pick her up first thing in the morning, that's when Leon and I change shifts to guard."
I nodded and this time I hugged him, "everything will be fine...your aunt and uncle will be there if I need help, as well as a few older Harmond women."
He hugged me back "I trust you Jules, just not trying to push you away again."
I felt my cheeks heat up..."don't worry Wylde, I'm not going anywhere."
