The party had just ended, and Dimentio and Timpani returned to their dorm, smiling and laughing.
Timpani: "So, this was your very first party?! Like, ever?!"
Dimentio: ".....Do funerals count?"
Timpani: "It's your very first party! This is so exciting!"
Dimentio shrugged and sat down on his bed.
Dimentio: "Yeah. It was definitely.... an experience to say the least."
Timpani: "Ooh! I have a game! Now that we're friends, why don't we tell each other a secret that no one else knows! Oh! I'll go first!"
She ran over and sat down next to Dimentio.
Timpani: "Okay, someday...I'm gonna get married!"
Dimentio: "....That's not really a secret."
Timpani: "Yeah it is, now tell me your secret!"
Dimentio: ".....Like what?"
Timpani shrugged
Timpani: "I don't know...like, why does your brother have a wheelchair?"
Dimentio's face went pale.
Dimentio: "W-what? No. I'm not gonna tell you that."
Timpani: "That's not fair! I told you a really good secret!"
Dimentio looked down at his hands and sighed. They both waited in awkward silence for a minute.
Dimentio: "Okay....fine. My....my father hates me."
Timpani gasped.
Dimentio: "That's not the secret. The secret is it's my fault. Jacq's legs, it's my fault. You see, when my mother was carrying Jacq, they were worried he'd come out....looking like me. So, my father made my mother chew on some herb day and night. But.....that made Jacq come too soon. He came out with his legs all tangled....and my mother never woke up. None of which would have happened, if it weren't for me."
Timpani looked down.
Timpani: "Oh. W-well that's the herb's fault. Not yours..."
She saw the sun begin to rise outside the window, and desperate to change the subject to something lighter, she perked up.
Timpani: "Oh look! It's tomorrow! Dimmy, do you mind if I call you Dimmy?"
Dimentio: "Well, it's a little perky-"
Timpani: "Great! And you can call me.... Timpani! So, Dimmy, now that we're friends, I have decided to make you my new project!"
Dimentio shook his head.
Dimentio: "That's really not necessary."
She laughed and placed a hand on his shoulder.
Timpani: "I know. That's what makes me so nice."
She snatched his hat off.
Timpani: "Step one! We're taking this ridiculous outfit off!"
Dimentio quickly grabbed the hat back.
Dimentio: "What? But....I kinda like it...."
Timpani: "Why?"
Dimentio: "Because you gave it to me. My brother gets gifts all the time....but me..... I don't know. I don't really get many gifts, so it meant a lot."
Timpani: ".....well it's not quite school appropriate. You can keep it and everything, just please DON'T WEAR IT."
He sighed, before going to the bathroom and changing into his normal school clothes.
Dimentio: "Alright. Happy?"
She smiled, before sitting next to him and messing with his hair.
Dimentio: "Aaaaand, what are you doing now? You're like a buzzing bee that won't leave me alone."
Her smile dropped.
Timpani: "Whoa, what's with the strange wordplay?"
He shrugged.
Dimentio: "Sorry. The similes just come out. Old habit."
She smiled.
Timpani: "Well, step two, we need to get rid of those! Anywho.... ooh! I know what'll help! Let's find you a girlfriend!"
Dimentio: "Nah. I'm not into that."
Timpani: "Oh. Cool cool. Let's find you a boyfriend!"
Dimentio: "Eh. Not into that either. Just not into the whole 'love' thing."
Timpani: "Why not??"
Dimentio: "Have you seen my face? Like anyone would ever love me."
She crawled up behind Dimentio and grabbed his shoulders.
Timpani: "True, true. That's where I come in!"
(AN: Music start)
Timpani: "Whenever I see someone less fortunate than I,
And let's face it..... who isn't less fortunate than I?
My tender heart tends to start to bleed.
And when someone needs a makeover!
I simply have to take over!
I know, I know.... exactly what they need."
She stood up and took a look at him.
Timpani: "And even in your case.
Though it's the toughest case I've yet to face....
Don't worry, I'm determined to succeed.......
Follow my lead, and yes, indeed,
You
Will
Be...
Popular!
You're gonna be popular!
I'll teach you the proper ploys
When you talk to boys
Little ways to flirt and flounce!
Oooh! I'll show you what shoes to wear
How to fix that hair
Everything that really counts to be popular!
I'll help you be popular!
You'll hang with the right cohorts!
You'll be good at sports!
Know the slang you've got to know.....
So let's start!
'Cause you've got an awfully long way to go...."
Dimentio: "Okay, this is a little insulting-"
She walked back behind him and grabbed his shoulders again.
Timpani: "Don't be offended by my frank analysis,
Think of it as personality dialysis!
Now that I've chosen to become a pal, sister and adviser,
There's nobody wiser
Not when it comes to popular!
I know about popular.
And with an assist from me,
To be who you'll be,
Instead of dreary, who you were... well, are
There's nothing that can stop you
From becoming popu-ler... lar..."
She got up and started skipping around.
Timpani: "La la, la la~!
We're gonna make you pop-u-lar!"
She giggled, then started combing his dark black hair.
Timpani: "When I see depressing creatures,
With unprepossessing features.
I remind them on their own be-half to. think. of.
Celebrated heads of state!
Or 'specially great communicators!
Did they have brains or knowledge?
Don't make me laugh!
They were popular!
Please, it's all about popular!
It's not about aptitude
It's the way you're viewed
So it's very shrewd to be....
Very, very popular like me!"
Dimentio: "This is never going to work! Face it, I'm fated to be like this."
Timpani: "Now, Dimmy, Nothing is decided entirely by fate, you know... All things determine their destinies. Now, stand up!"
She looked him up and down.
Timpani: "And now! For the finishing touches!"
She walked up to him and brushed his dark black hair over his yellow eye.
Then she pulled him over to the mirror.
Timpani: "Why, Dimmy. Look at you."
He looked at his own reflection. He almost looked normal....
Dimentio: "....I have to go."
He turned around and walked out of the room, slamming the door behind him.
Timpani: "....You're welcome!"
She looked in the mirror, and sighed.
Timpani: "And though you protest,
Your disinterest....
I know clandestinely....
You're gonna grin and bear it!
Your new found popularity!"
She excitedly squealed before dancing around.
Timpani: "La la, la la~!
You'll be popular!
Just not quite as popular.....
As
ME.........."
Dimentio walked down the hall,
Was that really him he saw in the mirror? When his eye was covered and when his hair wasn't a complete mess, he had almost looked normal.
Suddenly he ran into Professor Mago, causing the teacher to drop all his supplies.
Professor Mago: "Ah, Dimentio, my apologies. I didn't mean to run into you."
Dimentio kneeled down and helped pick up the books.
Dimentio: "Oh, no no. I wasn't watching where I was going. That's my bad..."
The professor smiled, before putting the spare books into a suitcase.
Dimentio: "Professor....what's with the bags? Are you going somewhere?"
Mago gave Dimentio a sad smile.
Professor Mago: "Oh, no no. I'm just....well.....I'm no longer the assistant sorcery teacher...."
Dimentio: "Wait, WHAT?! Why not?!"
The professor shrugged, and sat down.
Professor Mago: "Here, let me explain. Magic is.....a very complex subject. When I was initially hired for this job, I was actually the strongest in Magic. Far stronger than the headmaster, whom actually has very little power, since he's human."
Dimentio slowly nodded
Dimentio: "Okay.... but what does that have to do with you leaving exactly?"
Professor Mago: "Well, when I was hired, I was hired for my powerful Magic. I wanted to teach young people, such as yourself, to control their powers. When I was just a boy, I had no control over it at all. However.... recently, I have felt my powers.....weaken. And now, they're nearly gone, so the school no longer feels it necessary that I be here."
Dimentio's eyes went wide.
Dimentio: "Wait, your powers are just.....gone?! But, surely the ancients can help you, right?"
The professor shrugged, before picking up his bags.
Professor Mago: "It is out of my hands. However....I have heard that other half's like myself have been experiencing the same thing. Their powers are growing weaker."
He reached forward and shook Dimentio's hand.
Professor Mago: "I have enjoyed having your brains and potential in class. You often remind me of myself when I was young. I see great power in your future. Farewell, Dimentio."
The professor turned started to leave, when Dimentio noticed some strange. Red scratch marks around the band around Mago's neck.
Dimentio: "Wait, Professor! What happened to your neck?"
Professor Mago froze, before slowly turning to face his student.
Professor Mago: "Oh....that? It's nothing. Don't worry about it."
The professor tried moving forward, when he was suddenly trapped in a large, transparent yellow box.
Professor Mago: "Ah, I see you've been improving."
Dimentio walked up in front of the professor and took a closer look at his neck.
Dimentio: "What.... what happened? Did the band do that?"
The professor shook his head, before sighing.
Professor Mago: "No.... I did."
Dimentio: "What?! But why?!"
The professor lowered his voice to a whisper.
Professor Mago: "I was.... trying to remove ut."
Dimentio: "But why? Didn't the ancients want you to wear it?"
Professor Mago started coughing again.
Professor Mago: "Dimentio, let me go now."
Dimentio: "No. Tell me why you tried to remove it!"
Professor Mago: "Dimentio...."
Dimentio sighed, then waved his arms, causing the box to dissappear.
Dimentio: "Fine.... you don't have to tell me."
The Professor nodded, then walked to the door, before turning back one last time.
Professor Mago: "Dimentio?"
Dimentio: "Yes?"
The professor let out a sigh.
Professor Mago: "Just.... don't believe anything you hear. And please, please don't let anyone put a band on you. Okay?"
The professor turned and left then.
Dimentio: "No.... wait, come back!"
But he was already gone.
