Dancing Through Life Reprise
Dimentio made his way back to his hometown. Skies were grey. Very few people were out on the streets. It was almost eerie. He could hear nothing but the sound of his own footsteps.
Dimentio: "I don't remember it being this quiet...."
Months now. It had been months since he'd been here. He was exhausted, constantly moving from place to place, trying to lay low.
He wore a black tank top and black puffy pants. He wanted to try to go as unnoticed as possible, but he found that difficult due to his unique appearance. He wished he had brought at least one of his bags with him when he took off. He left everything. Even the bag with the outfit and mask Timpani gave him.
Oh, how he missed it. He missed it all.
He walked into his hometown, trying his best not to be seen. He wanted to see it all, one last time, before leaving forever.
He made it to his childhood home, before slowly knocking on the door. He expected his father to answer. He just wanted to see him. Maybe apologize, for never being the son he had wanted. Or maybe to yell at him, for always neglecting him. It didn't matter, so long as he could just see him.
But no one came.
Dimentio: "Uhh, hello?"
He slowly opened the door, hearing a creaking noise.
The lights were out, a small table knocked over. An old vase, broken.
Dimentio: "Odd....."
He walked further in. The silence had never been so loud.
Dimentio: "Hello? Anyone here?"
He walked into the old living room, and to his horror, suddenly saw his brother, Jacq, lying alone on the floor, wheelchair tipped over.
Dimentio: "JACQ!"
He immediately kneeled down and grabbed his brother's arm. Jacq started coughing. He had a high fever, and couldn't even open his eyes.
Jacq: "Who....who are *cough* you?"
Dimentio: "What happened here?! I thought your girlfriend, Rose, was taking care of you!"
Jacq let out a small chuckle.
Jacq: "Oh, right....her. Well...heh, it turns out....she uh....she never loved me. She left....a few days ago, because Timpani and my brother never returned from Flipside. She said....she said that if Timpani wasn't here, there was.... no point in being with me."
Dimentio's eyes went wide.
Dimentio: "T-Timpani didn't return?!"
Jacq: "Yeah, she found some guy or something, so none of us have seen her. And my brother, he flew off and *cough* left me here."
Dimentio felt like a hole had just been torn in his heart.
Dimentio: "But surely fa-.... your father could take care of you!"
Jacq: "My father died. Once Dimentio left, once he heard of what his own son had done, he couldn't face the world again. He died of embarrassment. Of shame!"
Dimentio froze.
Dimentio: "Oh. I'm.... I'm so sorry. But, I can help now! Let me help you! You have a high fever!"
Dimentio stood up to get some medicine when Jacq grabbed his ankle.
Jacq: "No...."
Dimentio: "What?!"
Jacq: "I don't want your help, sir. My father is dead... my mother is dead... my brother is gone... and Rose....oh, my beautiful Rose.... she never loved me."
Dimentio sighed knowing that no one's ever loved him, and no one ever will.
Dimentio: "Well, sometimes love disappoints us. But please, let me help you!"
Jacq started sobbing, clutching onto Dimentio's leg.
Jacq: "I loved her so much, but she left. I tried walking. I tried chasing after her....b-but I fell down... I fell down and broke a bunch of things. I couldn't even chase after her.... I couldn't fight for her. I was helpless."
Jacq whimpered.
Jacq: "And she.....she never even loved me. I....I'd like to die now. There's no one taking care of me. It's only pain. I don't....I don't want to live a life where no one loves me."
Dimentio's body froze up.
Dimentio: "No no no, Jacq, I'm here. I can take care of you."
Jacq slowly calmed down, like he was thinking.
Jacq: "......Huh....funny, I don't recall telling you my name."
He let out a small laugh, opening his eyes ever so slightly, enough to see the the yellow glow of Dimentio's left eye.
Jacq: ".....Dimentio?"
Dimentio slowly leaned over his brother.
Dimentio: "I'm....I'm sorry. Jacq, I'm so sorry. I promised I'd take care of you."
Jacq shrugged and closed his eyes again.
Jacq: "Yeah.....you did. You..... broke your promise."
Dimentio: "Jacq, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I-"
Jacq: "Is this what you felt like?"
Dimentio: "Huh?"
Jacq sighed, as he felt another tear roll down his cheek.
Jacq: "Father.... me..... no one took care of you. It hurts....doesn't it."
Dimentio: "I didn't need anyone to. Jacq, please. We need to get you medical help. You have a high fever! When's the last time you ate or drank?!"
Jacq: ".....Father never gave you any gifts."
Jacq looked down at his feet. He was wearing the pointy shoes his father got him all that time ago.
Jacq: "I want....I want you to have them."
Dimentio looked at Jacq's feet with a confused expression on his face.
Dimentio: "Your....your shoes?"
Jacq: "Yes. Think of it as a gift. From me to you. So you can remember me."
Dimentio: "Jacq, you're gonna be fine. I'm gonna get you help."
Jacq: "I.... I don't want help. I just want love."
Dimentio: "I love you! I-"
Jacq: "No.... I want her love. And I never had it....."
He let out another sob.
(AN: Music Start 6:58, but imagine it slower and sadder)
Jacq: ".....We deserved each other
Don't you see?
That was my....chance.
We deserved each other.
And now, she's....gone."
(AN: Music stop)
He slowly stopped sobbing.
Jacq: "I just want it to stop hurting...."
His breathing slowed. He grabbed Dimentio's hand.
Jacq: "You know, I never have told you this, but, I...."
He closed his eyes. And relaxed.
Jacq: "I....."
Dimentio felt his brother's hand slowly let go, as his breathing stopped.
Dimentio: "....Jacq? You what? Jacques?! JACQUES! Brother, wake up! WAKE UP!!"
He didn't wake.
Dimentio: "....no."
He leaned over his brother and softly cried.
Dimentio: "I promised I'd take care of you....no, please no. "
He quickly got up and ran outside.
Dimentio: "HELP! HELP! MY BROTHER! HE NEEDS HELP!"
A few people walked out to the streets upon hearing all the noise.
Citizen#1: "What all the noise abou-"
The citizen froze upon seeing Dimentio.
Dimentio: "Please. It's my br-"
Citizen#1: "IT'S HIM! THE WICKED MAN!"
The citizen quickly pulled out a whistle and blowed on it, causing more people to come.
Citizen#2: "It's him! Someone grab the bands!"
Dimentio began to freak out as the group of people approached him. He quickly ran into his house and locked the door, before kneeling down by his brother and hugging him to his chest.
Dimentio: "Jacq! Jacq, please. I-I don't know what to do. I can't do this. I-"
He was interrupted by a banging sound on the door. He winced as he heard the door break down. He turned his head, when he was grabbed by three different residents.
Citizen#1: "WAIT!"
The citizen kneeled down by Jacq and checked his pulse.
Everyone stared down at Jacq as Dimentio frantically squirmed.
Dimentio: "What are you doing?! Don't hurt him!"
Citizen#1: "Oh my Grambi...."
He stood up and turned to face Dimentio, rage in his eyes.
Citizen#1: "You....you KILLED HIM!"
Dimentio: "What?! No, no! He's not dead. H-he's okay! He's gonna be okay, right? He's- he's fine!"
His voice cracked as more tears fell. The citizens around him all began to freak out.
Citizen#2: "Murderer!"
Citizen#3: "HE'S WICKED! HE KILLED HIM!"
They began dragging Dimentio outside, as he desperately tried to get back to his brother.
Dimentio: "No! Please, that's not-"
Citizen#2: "SOMEONE GRAB THE BANDS!
A citizen ran, and came back with a box of bands. Dimentio tried squirming free. His hands were being held back, and with everything that just happened, he couldn't focus enough to escape by magic. To much was happening in his mind.
Dimentio: "NO, Y-YOU CAN'T! JACQ! JACQ, PLEASE! SOMEONE!"
He sobbed, as the citizen pulled out the bands.
Dimentio: "No! Get back! Please don't! Please. I-"
Suddenly, a small explosion went off under all their feet, causing the citizens to let go and fall. Dimentio fell to the ground as well, a loud ringing noise echoing in his head.
He was slightly confused. He didn't trigger that explosion. There was to much going on around him for him to focus enough to do so, plus, explosions required a lot of practice and control, which he hadn't quite achieved yet. No, this had to be caused by someone else.
Suddenly, he felt two arms wrapped under his shoulders, lifting him up.
Professor Mago: "Dimentio! Get up! We have to go!"
Dimentio could barely process what was happening, when his old professor shoved a bag into his hands.
Dimentio: "Wha-"
Professor Mago: "I said go! And don't look back!"
Dimentio: "B-but Jacq! His shoes! He-"
Professor Mago closed his eyes, intensely focused, and snapped his fingers, causing the shoes to appear in the bag. Dimentio looked inside to see the outfit and mask Timpani gave him inside as well.
'Where did Professor Mago get this?!' Dimentio thought to himself. 'I thought I left it in flipside.'
Professor Mago: "There. Now take this bag, hide your face, and GO!"
The professor was sweating, and clearly weak. That was all the Magic he could muster with the limiter on, and it was clearly taking a toll on him.
There were dark red scratches around the band. Clearly the professor had been desperately trying to remove the band, but it was still there, unharmed.
Dimentio: "But sir-"
Professor Mago: "GO!"
Dimentio nodded, then took off running as fast as he could, bag in hand now.
He could hear shouts behind him.
Citizen#1: "Hey! That man was helping him! Get him!"
Dimentio briefly turned his head and looked back.
Citizens tackled professor Mago to the ground.
Citizen#2: "We'll take him away. Have him arrested for helping that murder."
Dimentio held in a sob, then turned and continued running.
Professor Mago smiled a small smile at the sight of Dimentio escaping. He just had to give him that bag. That mask, more specifically. He needed Dimentio to hide himself in order to prevent people from limiting him.
After all, he had to look out for his fellow halfs.
Professor Mago: "Ciao, Dimentio."
He was hit on the head, and knocked out. The citizens took him away.
Dimentio heard his professor's goodbye as he ran as far as he could, before breaking down. He dropped to his knees, hugged himself, and sobbed.
Dimentio: "Jacq, no. Please please no...."
He waited like that for a few moments, before he opened the bag, and pulled out the poncho, hat, mask, and now shoes.
He hugged it all to his chest and sobbed for a few minutes. He could still smell Timpani's perfume in the cloak. He could still imagine Jacq wearing the shoes.
He let out a breath and slowly stopped crying, when he stood up, and put the poncho and hat on.
He waited a moment, before putting Jacq's shoes on. They were a perfect fit. Even though Jacq was younger, Dimentio was awfully small, so the shoes fit. But...
It felt....weird. Like, it wasn't his.
'Hide your face, and GO' He remembered Professor Mago saying. He took a deep breath, before putting the mask on his face.
Never again.... never again will he let someone see his face.
