Chapter 40
Zayn
"You know you have a lot of guts stepping back onto our side." I spat, staring at the lurid human in front of me.
"Well little Malik, you didn't really think I would back out of the game just like that would you?" he laughed repulsively.
"Well not since you ran out on me with your tail in between your legs am I right Saunders?" I replied, spitting out a little bit of blood.
He growled furiously and pounced back at me once more, but I blocked his weak attempt of a punch. He was useless without his gun. I bit back a laugh and said again.
"Can't even throw a punch."
This angered him even more, and as a result he kicked me harshly on my thigh; I returned the kick, however on his abdomen.
"Give up Gabe! You can't beat me, you never will, and I'm going to end you right here. Right now."
I was infuriated at the smug look on his face.
"I'm still going to tell her, whether it be me, or one of my men, she will find out and I will be there when she leaves your sorry ass." He spoke causing me to flinch.
Three hours earlier
I sat down on the bench silently watching everyone converse between their selves. I had only arrived about twenty minutes ago, and from what I heard, the warehouse had been attacked by none other than 'The Fires'. Rumors had circulated a few weeks earlier about how Gabe had returned. I ignored them at first because of what they were, rumors.
However, the so called rumors had been proven to be correct when there had been a report of an attack late night last week when I was at home. We managed to track The Fires down to find out they had relocated and were war ready. We all met up at our warehouse, all together and in the same place, since The Fires were said to attack tonight.
"Okay, Iv'e been ignoring that look for too long. What's on your mind?" Harry suddenly asked, taking a seat next to me.
"Stressed out is all." I replied simply not meeting his eyes. Not only was Harry my gang mate, he was also one of my best friends. He knew when I was telling the truth. Right now I was not, and I couldn't meet his gaze.
"Zayn lad, come on. Do you really expect me to believe that you're fine when you can't even look me in the eye?" He asked. When I didn't reply, he sighed and patted my back.
"Come on, lets roll one, get your mind off all this." He said, standing up. I followed his steps outside the corridor, where the chattering was nothing but a little buzz.
We sat for a few minutes in silence, and he passed my the blunt. I inhaled deeply and heard him talk.
"Today has been fucking ridiculous, and to think its only afternoon. Man if we don't get this day over with already-"
"Call of the bet Harry."
I could feel his burning stare at the side of my head as I exhaled.
"That's what's been bothering you? The bet? . . .Frankie?" he asked incredulously.
"Mate I hope you know that at the beginning I was fine with it, I really was. But now . . . she knows too much about me, and I know too much about her, and she's doing things to me-" I chuckled. "I like her so much now than at the beginning. She's all the things I want you know, and she's grown to be a part of my life- I told her about my mum Harry." I looked to him.
He gaped at me, not believing what I was saying.
"It kills me every time I look at her because I can only think of the fact that Iv'e been playing her this whole time. I can't just sleep with her and dump her at Prom, I just can't." I ended, looking down at my lap.
It was quiet between Harry and I for a few minutes, before he gulped and spoke up again.
"Zayn man. . . I don't know what to say; I had a hunch that you liked her more than you let on, but from the way you're talking about it man, y-you love her." He spoke quietly staring eyes wide.
I looked at him in disbelief, not believing a word he said.
"I don't think I'm at that level yet Harry."
"No Zayn think about it! - " he jumped. "You told her about your mum. Your mum. How long did it take us to find out about your mother Zayn. You're in love with her." I flinched, once he said love once more.
"Maybe I do, maybe I don't. But Harry, I can't go on with her knowing that the bet is still on. Call it off." I finalized.
"If that is what will make you realize your feelings, then fine. The bet is o-"
"Well well well! Would you look at what we have here!" an all too familiar, sickening voice boomed from the entrance of the warehouse.
My head snapped right in rage, hysteria, and aghast. There stood one of my many enemies, staring at me with a maniacal look plastered on his face.
I stood up abruptly, feeling the rage take over knowing he had heard Harry and I's conversation.
"Zayn Malik." he tsk'd.
I stood silently as he neared.
"I thought you knew better. You know you had me fool'ed for a second. I thought the two of you were so in love when you broke into my base and rescued her." he judged.
My eyes narrowed at him as he continued.
"Bless her soul. She thinks you actually care about her."
"Go Harry." I said in gritted teeth.
"But-"
"Go Harry." I ordered once more, looking back at him. He understood what I was trying to tell him and turned back around, walking into the direction of the main room.
"Zayn Zayn Zayn. Best believe she's going to find out now." He crazily grinned.
"I'd like to see you try you disgusting scumbag." I glared. At that moment, gunshots went off in the main room. The war had started.
"I'm the scumbag?" he laughed. "You're the one playing your bird."
"I'm not anymore stupid fuck." I retorted.
"But she doesn't know that. Guess what Zayn? I'm going to tell her!" He screamed.
"I'd like to see you try." I replied. And then hell broke loose.
Present
"I'll only let you go on one condition." Gabe said slyly.
I glared hard at him as he smirked at me.
"Go through with it. The original plan. Go through with it, or I swear on my fucking heart she will find out." he replied.
"Why are you doing this?" I raised my voice, outraged.
"She's making you happy, and I don't want your happiness. Break up with her like you were going to in your bet and I'll let this all go. Don't and I will tell her myself and kill her." he declared. "And you know I can."
My heart beat rapidly in my chest at his words. I wasn't going to let him win, but I wasn't going to let him kill her either. Gabe wasn't as powerful as I was but if he wanted something done, he would get something done. I didn't want to risk my girlfriends life, but I didn't want to end my happiness as well.
"Make a choice Malik, tick tock." he taunted.
With another punch, I dropped him on the floor and took a step back, looking at his laughing mess of a face lying helplessly on the ground, blood gurgling out of his mouth, dripping down his throat.
At this point, the war was over. It was six pm and all I wanted to do was get home and make a choice. Whichever choice I made, I wasn't going to be happy.

"Are you okay man?" Niall asked, taking a seat next to me, as we recovered in Liam's house.
"I won't lie Niall, I feel like shit." I chuckled dryly.
"You want to talk about it?" he asked.
The room had silenced and I could feel eyes on Niall and I as I rested my face in my palms.
"Why do I never get to be happy." I croaked.
Silence.
"You know, karma really is a bitch and what goes around really does come back around." I said, feeling more rage than hurt.
"And now I have to make a choice, either way I'm going to get hurt."
"Zayn-"
"Or the girl I love is going to get killed."
A/N Shit. Two more chapters until it all goes downhill.
