Chapter 1

Frankie

I took in my surroundings as the taxi took off behind me; right palm clammy from the excessive squeezing of the blue suitcase in my grip, and left palm simply from the balling of my fist from sheer agitation.

This was it. This was the place.

Post all the years of strive and agony, I had arrived. I had left the past to be just as it was, the past, and brought myself to do this.

With one foot in front of the other, slowly I made my way up the small, yet breathtaking driveway taking in the scenery. The house was composed of grey wooden panels on the exterior, holding it up together. I rapidly took notice of the greenery surrounding the house as well.

She did always love to garden.

Before I could comprehend, I let go of one hand, lifting it up to ring the doorbell. No more than two minutes shortly, the door opened to reveal the brown eyed, brown haired brunette I had not seen in years; my other half, my beautiful sister.

"Frankie!" She exclaimed, pulling me into a bone crushing hug.

"Sacari." I said in a barely audible tone. I couldn't even find my voice. I was so overjoyed that I couldn't even voice it out if I tried. Truly, I had missed her so much.

"I really missed you." I told her, tears starting to gather in my eyes.

"I missed you too; so so much." her voice cracked.

We finally pulled away after what seemed like hours, and she helped me get my things inside the house.

The house was just as beautiful on the inside as it was on the exterior. My vision was obscured slightly, not only because I didn't have my glasses on, but I couldn't see much from where I was standing. However, from what I could manage out, there was evidently an occurring theme of white throughout the house; her favourite colour.

"Welcome . . . welcome to my- well your house too now" she beamed and I saw the familiar crinkle of her nose, and dimples I had missed too much.

"Thanks, I love it; it's stunning." I replied, and she nodded her head.

"Let me show you your room, you must be mad tired from the trip here." She told me, carrying one of my suitcases.

"Not too tired; surprisingly, I slept throughout the whole plane ride here, and then a little bit on the train." I responded, all the while she was leading me up the stairs.

"You kipped on the train?" she laughed. "You're brave babe, even I don't sleep on the train, and you did that on your first day!"

"You won't even believe how tired I was, it was ungodly."

Before I knew, we were at a white wooden door, with a silver handle.

"So this is your room, I left it plain because I know how you love to decorate things yourself. So you can decorate everything however you'd like." she said, smiling.

"Thanks." I said grinning back. I hadn't even seen the room, and I knew it was already too much that I deserved.

"Anytime. Just set your things down and meet me downstairs so I can show you around." She said.

"Okay." I replied.

She beamed at me, closing the door, leaving me in the medium sized bedroom.

It was . . . nice. The walls were plain white, I was guessing she was leaving the wallpaper to me. And the bed had plain sheets and covers. I guess she was leaving that to me as well. And there was a nice little en suite with a mirror and everything in there. In the room, there was also a vanity.

Cute.

If there was one thing I knew about my sister, it was that she focused perhaps just a little too much on the details, and she'd done just that in the whole house as well as my room, no matter how plain it had been. The wooden bay window with artificial silver metal vines confirmed that.

I put my suitcases next to the bed, and took off my jacket, setting  it on the bed as well. I walked around a bit and turned up the heat on the radiator, because the goosebumps that decorated my skin and the fact that I was in a thin v neck and ripped jeans didn't help.

I took out my phone charger from my backpack and plugged it next to my bed, my shoes following suit, leaving me in socks.

Cari does too much.

I thought, walking towards the vanity with lights decorating it. I would unpack later in the evening. I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that merely three days ago, I was in Jersey, and now I was here. Here. With Sacari, who I hadn't seen since she turned sixteen and I waved her and grandma goodbye at the airport, before turning back with mum, returning to a broken home.

I pulled my hair back and then up staring at my reflection in the mirror. Seventeen years had finally brought me here. My eyes caught sight of the faint scar on my cheek; so faint that you would have to squint to catch it, nevertheless there.

You've got this.

I turned back around, making my way down the stairs.

Sacari was sitting in the living room adhering to the stereotypical British person assumption,  sipping tea. Just like the rest of the house, the living room was open and a large, as it shared space with the beautiful open kitchen/dining area. The theme? White with silver fittings.

"So I guess you've adapted to the habits then?" I said, walking towards her.

She looked up, about to say something but swallowed and said:

"How could I not? When I would go over to people's houses, no matter the time of day, they would always, always offer me tea. I just got used to it. And plus, tea is bomb." She said, stuffing down some cookies. I chuckled at her behaviour.

"Well you've been here for five years so, do you." I told her, which resulted a laugh.

"This October would  make six love."

"And I see your accent is changing." I pointed out, noticing that she sound like the same American she used to be.

"I still pronounce some words the same, just some words I don't, my accent is just confused." She told me. I laughed and sat on one of her sofas.

"Would you like a cup?" She asked, sipping hers.

"Yes please." I mocked. She hit me playfully  and poured me a cup. I thanked her and asked.

"So what's happening like with you know, everything?"

"Everything is fine. As you know, I model now." She said with a smile of accomplishment.

"Yes I do. You are  all over the billboards back at home." I told her.

"Am I? That's so cool, oh and how's mum? Does she have a phone? I should call her," She asked.

"Mum's fine. I'm guessing her and grandma are settling in right now." I replied, taking a bite out of a cookie.

Our conversation went on for about thirty more minutes; useless things honestly. But with the way I had missed out sister-like conversations, I didn't care if we sent the rest of our lives on the sofa debating useless things. Then she brought up me, and how things were going to work.

"Okay, well firstly, you're seventeen and this isn't America, you can't drop out as early here. So I enrolled you into a school just about fifteen to twenty minutes from here; it's not so bad. It's called Chester Community School. It entails of a mixed curriculum; British and American, so there is no uniform; You're going to be in sixth form so A-Level. The education has been rated a 4.5/5, but the behaviour is not as grande. But I think I have a reason to believe that when I say you won't act like one of the hooligans, you nerd."

I blushed a little at the addition. It was true, I was a nerd, and most of the time, I would happily pick a grande library over a club any day.

She giggled and stood up. I trotted lazily behind her as she showed me around. There were two guest bedrooms, I had occupied one, her room, one guest  bathroom, as the rest had ensuite bathrooms, the backyard, the attic, the kitchen a the garage.

Our tour came to an end at the sight of a platinum white door.

"Close your eyes, I have a surprise for you. " Sacari said enthusiastically.

I shut my eyes an when I heard the door open, and she called for me to open them, I did so and nearly fell back.

"Sacari, what is this? " I gasped at the quaint art studio in front of me.

"I I figured you'd want your own little space, once your art stuff came in, so I decided to put it together a little bit. You like it?" She asked smiling.

"I love it. Thank you so much, seriously, for everything." I thanked, this one was deeper from the heart.

"No problem, and unfortunately," she paused looking at her watch. "I've got to go to work quickly, so I'll see you tonight around 7 and we'll get out to get something, maybe  Nandos yeah? "

"It's popular here right?" If I had remembered correctly from the gross research I had done.

"Yes! There's one just about everywhere here, and babe I'll let you in on a secret; it's better than the one in the states." she winked.

"Thanks again."  I referred to the studio.

"Stop thanking me. The keys are downstairs if you wanna have a peek round the neighborhood. See you later. " she rushed downstairs.

Minutes later I heard the door shut.

I changed into some sweatpants and a sweater. I figured since I'd probably fall asleep, I should change now.

My suspicions were confirmed once my face hit the pillow.

Jet lag was a bitch.
