be the bigger person — i can't, i'm only five' three
ITS BEEN ABOUT two weeks since Sookie and Victoria was attacked by Rene. And Victoria had a lot on her mind; Lafayette has gone missing, and they were currently standing in front of a dead body.
"What happened?" Sam shouted as he ran towards the three girls, his blue eyes wide in fear and confusion,
"There's someone inside!" Sookie shouted as she held onto her cousin. While Sookie and Tara screamed, Victoria was just staring at the dead body with wide eyes, barely moving.
Andy turned to them with wide eyes and then went in through the driver's seat to look for his flashlight. "Don't touch anything."
"We were out trying to find Andy's car," Sookie stated, rubbing Victoria's back as the eighteen year old came out of her stupor.
"Someone fucking moved it!" Andy snapped and Victoria had to count as she breathed in and out, trying to stop from a panic attack. Just one week ago, Victoria had seen Stefan kill two people, and almost killed her and Elena too. Now, there's a dead body in Andy's car, and there is a slight chance it could be Lafayette seeing as they can't see the person's face.
"Suddenly, there's this person in there..."
Tara went towards Sam's, crying. "We need an ambulance! Call the cops!" Sam grabbed her shoulders and tried to calm her down.
"I am the cops!" Andy snapped as he got out of the driver's seat and went to look at the body.
"Oh, my God!" Tara started sobbing and Sam pulled her into his arms as Sookie kept a tight hold on Tori. "Please tell me it's not Lafayette, please."
"Check for a pulse," Victoria spoke softly, biting her lip.
Andy sighed as he looked back at them. "Forget it. There ain't no pulse."
"What? Why?"
Andy brought his flashlight up the body, "Because there ain't no heart." He cursed under his breath and Victoria let out a shaky breath, stumbling back after seeing the place where the heart looked like it had been ripped out of. "Sick fuck."
"It's not him," Sam told the three girls softly. "It's not Lafayette." Andy revealed the face by pulling the blanket up off of it. "Who the heck is that?"
Tara took in a shaky breath as she got a good look at the face of the person, and then let out a scream.
MINUTES LATER, Victoria stood beside Sookie against a car, the blondes arms wrapped around her to keep her calm.
"Careful here, son," the Coroner spoke out to the guy who was helping him carry out the body from the car. "Her leg will break off like a chicken wing if you hold her like that."
Victoria let out a gag as she got a better, and very much unneeded, look at the woman's body. Her mouth was wide open, blood was down her white shirt and jeans, staining them.
Looking to her left, Victoria saw Sookie close her eyes and take in a shaky breath. She realized that Sookie was probably hearing everyone's disgusting thoughts about the whole ordeal, so she took the blonde's arms off of her, and then wrapped her cousin in a hug.
"I don't know about the both of you," Sam said as he approached them, "but... I think I've seen enough dead bodies to last me a lifetime.
Sookie shook her head as Victoria lowered her arms, and they held hands. "Except this one, I just don't get... with everyone Rene killed, you could see his rage. But this, cutting out that poor woman's heart... someone just wanted to see her suffer." She squeezed her cousin's hand. "Every time I think I know what's what it turns out I don't know anything."
Sam went to speak, but Tara approached them, her voice cracking as she said, "Hey, I'm good to close up and go home if you are."
Sookie sighed. "Sweetie, how did you know the woman that got killed?"
"Sookie, I told you, I nev—" Tara trailed off and pulled her arm away from Victoria was was trying to hold her hand to comfort her. "That was... that was the woman who gave me and my mamma the exorcism."
"I'm so sorry." Sookie sighed and pulled Tara into a much needed hug. "I had no idea."
Victoria grabbed the girls hand. "You're gonna have to tell the police about it. You know that."
Tara pulled back and let out a shaky breath. "Shit! I'll probably have to spend all night answering questions. My mamma's gonna fall to pieces when she finds out."
Sam stepped towards them with a small smile. "Listen, you go home. Sookie, Tori, and I will close up."
Tara nodded and turned around. "Kenya! I remembered something."
VICTORIA AND SOOKIE was now standing in front of Bill and a redhead who had been turned by him.
"You killed her?" Sookie asked as she stared between them.
Bill shook his head. "Not entirely, no."
Victoria was staring the red head in the eyes, and she saw nothing but innocence. Jessica's blue eyes were so blue and she couldn't help but want to be nice to her. "How old are you?"
"Seventeen."
Both Sookie's and Victoria's eyes widened at that. "She's younger than Tori!" Sookie snapped and then frowned at the red head. "Where are your parents?"
Jessica made a face. "Is she always like this?"
Sookie crosses her arms. "So, what then, you bit her?"
"Yes," Bill said with a nod.
"You drained her?"
"Yes."
"Did you have sex with her?"
"Ew!" Victoria exclaimed as Bill said, "no," and Jessica said, "no; old." It was quite comical, and both Jessica and Tori couldn't help but snicker.
Bill gave both teenagers a look, both offended and annoyed. "Jessica was brought to me as a condition of my punishment. I had to create a vampire as reparation for the one I destroyed to save you."
Jessica turned to Sookie with wide eyes. "So this is all your fault."
Everyone went quiet for a second before Bill turned to the red head. "Jessica, I need you to retire for the morning. My sleeping quarters are beneath the stairs. And you may stay there until we make other arrangements."
Jessica shrugged, "But I'm not tired..."
"Go!" Bill snapped at her which made Tori nares her eyes brown eyes at him.
Jessica looked between them before snapping, "Compared to Fangtasia, this blows!" She stormed out of the room, and Tori sighed and crossed her arms. The poor girl was only seventeen and was killed, and turned into a vampire in one night.
Victoria then furrowed her brows. "Wait... you let her stay with Eric?" She asked and bit her lip as she pictured Eric's piercing blue eyes staring deep into her brown ones.
Bill let out a breath and turned to the cousins. "We can't turn her out. Not yet. She's a very young vampire. At her age, with her impulses, she could be dangerous."
Sookie tilted her head. "Where has she been tonight?"
Bill furrowed his dark brows. "Here with me, and before that, with Eric and Pam."
Victoria turned to her cousin. "I looked in her eyes, Sook," she told the blonde softly. "There is no way she killed that woman."
Sookie nodded and sighed before turning to Bill. "Two weeks and... you never said anything."
Victoria's eyes widened as she looked between them. "This has nothing to do about me... so I'm gonna go." She jutted her thumb towards the door before quickly leaving. As she walked out the door, she froze and looked out at the cemetery which was seen not that far from the house, and sucked in a deep breath. She couldn't walk through that alone. No, definitely this soon after the whole Rene situation.
Sookie came out behind her and grabbed her hand. "I'm here with you." She squeezed her hand and Tori smiled at her. "Come on, let's go."
MORNING CAME QUICKLY, though Tori barley got a wink of sleep. She had stayed up, writing in her diary, talking to Elena on the phone about recent events in Mystic Falls, and telling Sookie about everything in her old home town.
Upon realizing that nothing in their lives were going to get better anytime soon, they decided to go in their grandmother's room and start to pack her things up.
After they had set everything out onto the floor, they went to start putting thing in boxes when the doorbell rung. They made their way downstairs and was greeted by their grandmother's executors.
Sookie smiled as they walked into the living room. "Have a seat, Mr. Lancaster."
He nodded at them as they took their places on the seats. "Thank you."
"Is there a problem with our grandmother's papers?" Victoria asked, worried.
"I know you've asked for a copy of the deed to the house," Sookie said, holding her cousins hand in a tight embrace.
Mr. Lancaster looked confused for a second before shaking his head. "Oh, no, no, that's all okay. I have some terrible news, I'm afraid." Both girls looked to each other with wide eyes. "Your great-uncle Bartlett has passed on. I know it's so soon after your grandmother. This must be quite a shock."
Both girls looked to each other, not that worried about his death. He had done things with both of them.
"Tell us what happened," Sookie urged on.
"Well..." He sighed and combined his hands on his lap. "The Lincoln Parish Fire Department found him a few miles south of Simsboro. He washed up on the shore."
Tori furrowed her brows. "How did he get all the way down there?"
"The Walnut Creek runs behind his house." He shrugged. "Sheriff's guessing he got too close and fell in. They're calling it an accident officially. There's no sign of burglary or forced entry at the house, and he was such a sweet old man that there'd be no reason to hurt him, anyway."
Victoria wanted to scoff and tell him about how disgusting that old man was, but decided against it. "There were no marks, or anything on his body?" She asked, instead.
Mr. Lancaster paused before speaking, "Well, there's gators and fish in the water. And he'd been there for a few weeks, so... There's not much of a body to speak of."
Sookie covered her mouth. "Oh, my God."
"I can't tell you how sorry I am," he told them with a small smile. "He was truly a kind, giving man. I was proud to call him my friend." He looked between them before his eyes landed on Sookie. "The one consolation, Sookie, is that your great-uncle Bartlett cared for you deeply. He stated in his will hat he wished for you to inherit all his financial assets. It's not much, $11,000 near abouts." He pulled out a piece of paper from his suit jacket. "But it's a token of how special you were to him. Go ahead. Take it. It's yours."
Sookie reluctantly reached out for it.
AFTER DECIDING THAT neither of them wanted that bastards charity money, they decided to drive to Jason's workplace, and give it to him.
Victoria smiled at Hoyt who was leaning against a truck. "Hey!" She waved at him and he quickly stood up, sending her a cute smile.
"I heard about the... at Merlotte's," he stuttered out, sending her a small smile. "I'm sorry."
Victoria smiled at him brighter than before. "Thanks, Hoyt, that's sweet of you." He blushed under her gaze and leaned back against the truck.
Sookie turned to Jason. "Sidney Matt Lancaster came by a bit ago. He had some bad news. Uncle Bartlett passed away."
Jason's brows furrowed and he frowned. "What happened?"
"They're saying it was an accident," Tori told him, "He fell into the Walnut Creek. Behind his house. There's something else."
"He left us an inheritance," Sookie took over and held up the envelope. "Well... he left me the inheritance. But I don't want it. Here."
"Wait." Jason frowned. "Why did he leave it to you? I was the one who used to mow his lawn every Sunday."
Sookie shrugged. "I don't know. He was old. It's yours now. Come on, now."
Jason shook his head as he looked between them. "Maybe we should split. Between the three of us."
Victoria wrapped her arms around herself. "We don't want it." She nodded her head at the envelope and he slowly took it was a confused expression.
"We gotta get to work," Sookie told them before getting in the car. "Bye Hoyt!"
Victoria gave Jason a hug and waved bye to Hoyt who smiled and eagerly waved back at her.
IT WAS LATER that night and they were on their shift, and it was kind of a calm night, though, Tori felt like something was going to happen.
"Pitcher of Abida light," Sookie said as she walked towards Tara who was filling up glasses. Tori was leaning against the counter, waiting for someone to sit at her tables.
"Not the usual Dixie draught?"
Sookie shook her head as she brought out her notepad and ripped a piece of paper, and laid it in front of Tara. "No, Jason's not drinking, and Hoyt says his mama wants him to watch his weight."
Arlene walked up to them and placed her tray down which Tara set a pitcher of tea on it. "Please, she's one to talk. That woman's got more chins than a Chinese phone book."
Victoria felt a little bad, but she couldn't help but chuckle.
Upon overhearing Jason talking about a leadership conference, Sookie and Tori shared a look before approaching him after Hoyt left to go use the bathroom.
"Leadership conference, huh? What church?"
Jason smiled as he looked between his sister and cousin. "Marlboro. Baptist. In Baton Rouge. It's only for a week. Just give me a chance to get away from everything."
Sookie sighed and sat back in the seat. "I wish I could take a week off." She took in a breath. "We finally started cleaning out Gran's room today. We couldn't even bear to pack away a single thing."
Jason looked down with a sad expression. "Yeah, I know. I miss her too. And I'm hoping maybe God'll tell me why he had to take good people away. Like Gran and Amy."
Sookie frowned. "Jason, Amy was a V addict."
"Yeah, that don't mean she deserved to die." He looked between them. "I can't help it, Sook, I loved her. And when you love someone you've got to love it all. Otherwise it ain't love."
Victoria couldn't help but smile. "That's wise, Jason," she said, "And totally true."
"There you are, Stackhouse!" Andy exclaimed as he came out of the bathroom, putting his belt on. "Got a couple of questions for ya."
Sookie looked to her brother. "Humour him, he's toasted." She pulled him into a hug. "Have a good time at church camp."
"Bye," Victoria said and gave him a kiss on the cheek before leaving.
Sookie had ended up leaving her shift which made Tori take it over, and she ended up staying really late, not that she complained that much. She wanted to get her mind off of things. Everyone seemed to end up dying around her, whether she knows them or not. It sucked.
After her shift was over, she realized that Sookie was staying with Bill, so she ended up having to get Hoyt to drive her back to her place.
Once she got inside, she grabbed the rifle, and checked the whole house, making sure everything was locked and no one was inside before she made her way to her bedroom, shut and locked the door, before jumping on her bed.
She knew she wasn't going to get much sleep, so she just laid on her bed, rifle beside her, and pulled out her diary.
