CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE,
episode eight, the sins of the father.

KING UTHER stood in front of his soon to be knights one evening as everyone watched patiently. isabella sat on her throne next to arthur who was stood, as she watched, hoping something exciting would happen.

"arise, sir vidor, knight of camelot." the king spoke, "arise, sir cardioc, knight of camelot." he finished.

"you have been accorded a great honour. with that honour comes great responsibility. from this day forth, you are sworn to live by the knights' code. you, who pledge to conduct yourselves with nobility, honour, and respect. your word is your sacred bond." he continued as isabella felt herself almost falling asleep in boredom.

it was far too late at night for a boring knighthood ceremony.

uther spoke some more about arthur and how he is a great example—until the throne room doors burst open, a knight of some kind heading in. everyone raised their swords as morgana and isabella were pulled away from the knight's reach.

arthur stepped towards them challengingly. the knight simply took off their gauntlet and threw it to the floor, challenging arthur to a fight. arthur picked it up without hesitation. "i accept your challenge. if i'm to face you in combat, do me the courtesy of revealing your identity?"

the knight shrugged slightly, their hands reaching up to tug at the helmet they were wearing. isabella looked stunned as long golden curls fell out of the helmet and down the knights back. it was a woman. "does she look familiar to you?" morgana asked quietly.

isabella glanced at her, shaking her head no.

arthur blinked awkwardly. now he was going to have to fight a woman!

"my name is morgause." the woman spoke boldly, as if she wasn't threatened at all by the many swords at her throat.

"you are sure you recognise her?" isabella asked as morgana nodded with a frown, trying to work out who she was.

the people in the room went their separate ways, morgause going to train for the fight in the morning as isabella walked in step with arthur. "what's the frown for?" she asked.

he glanced down at her, "how am i supposed to fight a woman?"

"i think you're worried she will beat you. imagine the great arthur pendragon loosing and dying to a girl! oh, wait...that's already happened with me and morgana." she grinned teasingly as arthur rolled his eyes.

"i think i'd rather walk into the mouth of hell than be beaten by a woman." arthur mumbled bitterly as it was isabella's turn to roll her eyes.

"have you learnt nothing since i have come to camelot? honestly, stop being so prejudice." she complained.

"goodnight isabella." he said in response, she scoffed and turned to go.

"in fact...i hope she does win." isabella grinned, before picking up her many skirts and dashing out of the room, knowing he would begin to chase her around the castle.

the sound of their laughter filled the castle as isabella raced away from him, hiding in as many spots around the castle as she could find. it was times like these where she felt most at peace. when they could be themselves and forget about the responsibilities of being the future king and queen.

isabella tip-toed out of her hiding spot, and went to turn around, only to see arthur stood there as she yelped in surprise, making him laugh. "what was it you were saying?" he raised a brow.

"i can't remember." she lied between slight laughs as they came to her chambers.

"that's what i thought." he smiled in accomplishment, lifting up her hand to press a kiss to her knuckles as she rolled her eyes slightly with a fake grimace.

THE MORNING arrived quicker than isabella would have liked. she walked behind uther as the people of camelot bowed for them as they walked up to the stage, taking a seat on their thrones.

"the fight is by the knights' rules and to the death." the king said as isabella gulped slightly, remembering how morgause had killed six guards the night before.

arthur put on his helmet and swung his sword, aiming it at her as the fight began.

"oh she's a good fighter." estella complained as isabella ignored her, on the edge of her seat as her eyes scanned the fight as quickly as possible—silently wishing she had merlin's ability to slow things down in his mind.

she couldn't help but smile lightly when he knocked the sword out of her hand, despite the fact she picked it back up straight away.

and then, it went downhill.

she sat up straighter when arthur got knocked down, his helmet falling off as morgause pointed the sword at his chest. morgause took off her helmet and spoke a few words to him that no one could hear.

after a few moments, she held her hand out for arthur to take and he stood up, watching as she walked over to the stage, bowed to uther, isabella and morgana, and walked away.

"i wonder what she said to him." morgana hummed in thought.

isabella glanced at her with a small knowing smile, "i'll soon find out, don't worry."

while on her way to find arthur, she bumped into the woman. isabella felt oddly comforted when in the woman's presence, she had a kind aura. but there was something about her...it was strange. "isabella is it?" she asked with a bow as isabella nodded.

"yes. morgause is a beautiful name." the princess replied softly as morgause sent her a smile small.

"i am sure you will hear of the challenge i have set arthur in three days time at some point. this is a...polite warning to you. he must go alone. after hearing how people talk about you and your loyalties to him, i understand you will probably ignore my request and come along." morgause told her calmly as isabella shrugged with a nod.

"i just have one request if you do decide to come along....do not interfere. all is well." morgause told her.

isabella simply stared at her in response in suspicion, before moving past her to find arthur.

she entered his chambers to see arthur on his chair by his table complaining to merlin. "it could be worse." merlin said as isabella came and sat next to him.

"how could it be worse?" arthur sighed in annoyance.

"you could be dead." merlin shrugged.

"at least i wouldn't have to face everyone." he said bitterly. "i have never felt so humiliated in my entire life. i was defeated by a girl."

both merlin and isabella laughed slightly. "it's quite funny when you think about it." she admitted as arthur glared at them both, not even realising she was there.

"or not." merlin said, noticing the look he gave them.

"no. it's like you said, merlin. i was hindered because i was fighting a woman. i was worried i was going to hurt her." arthur nodded to himself.

"you didn't look hindered." merlin mumbled before shutting his mouth noticing arthur's face drop.

MORGAUSE HAD left a few days before, she had even teased arthur by saying she knew his mother very well—of course, making him want to find out more. arthur didn't tell anyone about this, apart from his father when he asked to go.

however, uther had confined him to his chambers and forbidden him to accept morgause's challenge. arthur had somehow managed to convince merlin to get them all supplies to leave that night, and a way to get arthur out of the room.

isabella and arthur waited for merlin to come back that night, with a bag and that was all. "got the supplies!" he grinned as isabella blinked.

"merlin...is it my imagination or are you getting fat?" arthur asked, seeing merlin have an unusually larger tummy than normal.

merlin grinned and lifted his t shirt to see long rope wrapped around it. isabella clapped proudly as arthur nodded in approval. "bravo merlin."

arthur held onto it and nervously looked out of the window. "are you sure you are strong enough to hold me?" he asked.

"yeah. i'm stronger than i look." merlin said in offence as isabella watched from the side in amusement.

arthur sighed and climbed out of the window, jumping down as the rope ran out pretty quickly. "why have i stopped? lower the rope!" arthur exclaimed quietly.

"there is no more rope!" merlin yelled in a panic. "i don't know if i can hold it much longer!"

"merlin!" isabella exclaimed in annoyance.

"merlin. do not let go of the rope—"

arthur was cut off by merlin letting go of the rope.

there was a thud, followed by silence as isabella winced and hesitantly walked over to the window, peering over as she covered her mouth to stop her from laughing seeing arthur land in the horse dung.

not long later, they had set off for the journey, and it was starting to get lighter. "so...how do you know where we are going?" isabella asked as they came to a stop with two pathways.

"she said i would know..." arthur mumbled.

he sighed and went left, but the horse refused as arthur pulled a face. "what is wrong with this horse? it's even dumber than you, merlin."

the horse turned and went right as merlin and isabella's horses immediately followed. "where are we going? i thought you said it was left?" merlin called out.

"it's not me. it's the horse!" arthur exclaimed, blaming the poor animal.

"so the horse knows where we are going." isabella sighed in annoyance, looking at merlin who looked back at her, unamused. "great."

"what if morgause challenges you to do something you don't want to do?" merlin asked innocently as isabella internally sighed.

"i think that's the whole point." isabella replied tiredly.

"i'm not expecting it to be easy." arthur agreed. "that is why it is called a challenge." he emphasised on the words as isabella laughed slightly.

"so...you'd do anything she asked of you?" merlin asked, a frown on his face as isabella glanced at him in confusion.

"i gave her my word. it's a question of honour."

"anything?" isabella raised a brow, making arthur send her a look.

"what if she challenges you to do something even less honourable than breaking your work?" merlin continued.

"will you stop rabbiting on!" arthur exclaimed in annoyance as merlin's face dropped.

"honestly, merlin. he's nervous enough as it is." isabella teased with a smile playing on her lips as arthur sent her a slight glare.

"both of you need to shush! we are in odin's territory. we could be attacked at any second." arthur announced as isabella's face dropped.

"remind me why i'm here again?" she scoffed.

"even if i said no, you would've come anyway." arthur reminded.

"i just think it's strange to agree to do something when you don't know what it is." merlin continued as isabella groaned .

"one more word out of you merlin, and you'll be taking the challenge in my place!"

merlin visibly jumped when an arrow shot right into the tree next to his head. his horse reared and knocked merlin off as isabella turned around with wide eyes and looked at arthur.

arthur jumped off his horse and got his sword out, making sure to push isabella behind him.

but of course, when someone went for her, she grabbed her own sword and began to fight him off, their swords clashing loudly as she managed to disarm him, and then, kill him.

she rushed over to merlin, helping him up as arthur fought off who they thought was the last man. merlin looked up in shock, isabella following his gaze seeing a man in the tree with a axe, ready to throw.

merlin muttered an incantation and the axe set alight and he out of the tree to his death.

arthur killed the man he was fighting and glanced down at merlin. "oh, don't worry, merlin. i'll deal with this." he scoffed. "you lie there and make yourself comfortable."

"maybe we should turn back." isabella spoke worriedly at arthur who glanced at her, his eyes softening.

"if you wish to return home, merlin will go with you." he said quietly as she shook her head.

"no, i'm worried about you. the woods could be full of odin's men, waiting to attack you. and merlin's right, we don't know what morgause wants you to do and—" isabella began to ramble, tugging on his sleeve as merlin fed the horses.

"merlin's got in your head, i see." he sent a glare to merlin who shrugged. "i'm not going back."

"you don't know anything about morgause. what if she just kills you right there! me and merlin would be so embarrassed returning home and having to say she killed you after all that." isabella scoffed as arthur froze and turned to her.

"nice to know you'd be embarrassed about my death rather than a bit sad." he teased as she rolled her eyes, smacking the back of his head lightly.

"and we don't even know where we are going! we're following a horse!" merlin added.

"morgause said she knew my mother." arthur said, and immediately isabella's eyes softened, and she mumbled an oh.

"if you had the chance to learn more about yours would you do it?" arthur asked isabella seriously.

"yes, i would. in a heartbeat." isabella replied, looking at his facial expression with a sigh. she reached up to give him a hug, "i'm sorry. i didn't know. it doesn't mean i'm not still worried about you."

he smiled at her, kissing her head as merlin grimaced, but did have a guilty expression on his face.

NOT LONG later, it started to get dark so they set up a fire to keep warm and get some sleep. arthur had been very quiet since mentioning his mother, so merlin decided to speak.

"what was your mother like?" he asked carefully as isabella rested her head on arthur's shoulder.

"i never knew her. she died before i opened my eyes." arthur said quietly as isabella's heart broke slightly for him.

"i'm sorry." merlin immediately replied.

"i barely know anything about her." arthur continued, playing with isabella's hands to make him less anxious.

"can't you ask your father?" merlin asked.

arthur smiled sadly, "he refuses to talk of her. it must be too painful for him. sometimes it is as if she never even existed."

"i still have a sense of her...almost as if she's a part of me." arthur looked down, eyes glossing over.

"that's the same with my father. i never knew him." merlin's eyes visibly lit up, finally glad he could have someone to relate to as isabella smiled lightly.

she felt bad she had a lot of time with her mother and both arthur and merlin had none with their own.

"and my mother's barely spoken of him. i've got this vague memory..." merlin smiled, for what felt like the first proper smile in ages. "it's probably just my imagination."

"that's beautiful merlin." isabella reassured.

"i'd do anything for even the vaguest memory." arthur mumbled.

"so because morgause said she knew her, you are hoping she will tell you about her?" isabella spoke up softly as arthur nodded.

"how long ago did your mother pass away?" merlin asked isabella who shifted uncomfortably now the spotlight was on her.

"it feels like so long ago now. i was eleven. so eight, almost nine years ago now." she frowned, remembering she would be turning twenty soon.  "i watched it happen."

"what was she like?" arthur asked, making a mental note to remind the king of her birthday coming up.

"from what i can remember she was kind, loving, powerful...and secretive. there was always something she wasn't telling me. she always was a mother first before the queen of devlin. but...sometimes she comes to me in dreams. but, scary dreams. like it is not really her, and that is what is so haunting about it." she spoke slowly, as if trying to recall the memories.

"she sounded so lovely." merlin smiled softly as isabella nodded. "she was."

"which is why i can understand why you would want to see morgause. i too would want to find out more about mine, and i am sure merlin would too about his father." isabella reassured arthur who smiled lightly her.

"we should get some rest." arthur spoke, clearly done with being emotional and sappy, making isabella smile lightly.

THEY CAME to a river the next morning. isabella blinked in confusion as their horses came to a stop. "it seems your horse has brought us to a dead end." she said, ignoring merlin's laugh.

however, the horse kept going. "now where's he going?!" arthur exclaimed as their horses walked into the river.

"i think you're going to get wet." merlin laughed.

"you don't say." arthur scoffed.

"no! i am not ruining this dress." isabella complained, lifting the skirts up as they rode deeper into the river.

merlin only decided to follow them when he realised the waterfall looked as if it could be a gateway to something. the water was cold, and isabella began to shiver slightly as they came to the waterfall.

she closed her eyes tightly as she felt the water come crashing down onto her and arthur, drenching them and the horses as they rode through it—but then, there was a cave.

merlin followed closely behind then as they came to a pathway in the woods, which then led to a large dark looking castle.

"that's terrifying." isabella muttered as they came to a stop outside of it.

"where are we?" merlin asked, arthur replying that he didn't know.

they continued to walk around it to find a way in. "if we weren't sure morgause was a sorcerer before, we can be certain of it now." merlin widened his eyes as arthur gasped.

"that must have been how she defeated me! she was using magic." arthur said cockily as merlin and isabella shared an annoyed look.

"hm...i didn't look like she was." merlin said as isabella laughed slightly and pushed a few long, wet curls over her shoulder, grimacing at the feeling of her wet hair on the back of her neck.

"and what would you know about magic, merlin?" arthur scoffed as isabella smirked slightly, but kept quiet.

"nothing." merlin replied with a shrug as they came to some steps leading up to a doorway.

arthur immediately got off his horse and walked up to is at isabella grew nervous, her heart dropped when she saw an axe and a block in the middle of a room. "now what?" arthur frowned.

"maybe we should ask the horse." merlin said, making isabella burst into laughter.

arthur sent them an annoyed look.

"well there's no one here. let's go home." isabella smiled brightly, clapping her hands together.

"you kept your promise." a voice said as isabella jumped slightly and turned to see morgause in a red dress with lace sleeves, her hair in perfect curls down to her waist.

"what is the nature of the challenge you wish to set me?" arthur asked.

"place your head on the block." morgause ordered, picking up the axe as isabella's jaw dropped and her mouth fell open.

"you gave me your word that you would do anything i asked." morgause raised a brow as isabella looked at merlin nervously.

"i didn't bring the agate." she mumbled quietly to merlin who rolled his eyes.

"as if that could heal a head being chopped of a body." he replied quietly in annoyance.

she sent him an annoyed look, fighting the urge to smack the back of his head.

"arthur, don't." merlin spoke up.

arthur ignored him and nodded slightly, crouching down to put his head on the block as isabella took a step forward in worry. morgause's words do not interfere , all is well ran through her head. but how couldn't she?!

"i won't let you do this!" merlin exclaimed as arthur put his head down.

"stay out of this, merlin."

morgause sent them a sharp look and pressed the axe against his neck lightly, before lifting it up in the air. isabella's hand went to her mouth in shock as she closed her eyes tightly and waited.

but morgause put the axe down with a small smirk. "you have shown that you are truly a man of your word, arthur pendragon." morgause spoke up, beginning to walk away.

"and for that, i will grant you one wish."

isabella's eyes widened slightly as she realised what this could mean.

"tell me what it is that your heart most desires." morgause asked him, glancing slightly at isabella.

"you said you knew my mother." arthur said, walking closer to her. "tell me all that you know about her."

"perhaps you would like to see her." morgause spoke as arthur's face fell in shock.

"yes. i want that more than anything." arthur answered as morgause smiled, nodding.

"as you wish."

they followed her through another doorway, where many pillars covered in vines and leaves where, there was no roof, they looked out onto the dark, cloudy sky. candles were lit everywhere and it was quite a terrifying scene.

"are you sure you want to do this?" merlin asked him.

"if you were granted the same opportunity, would you not want to meet your father?" arthur asked him quietly.

"uther won't forgive you if he finds out you've collaborated with a sorcerer." merlin continued.

"what if my father's attitude toward magic is wrong?" arthur asked out loud as isabella looked up at him.

"you think that?" she asked, hope in her eyes as merlin did too.

"perhaps it is not as simply as he would have us believe. morgause is a sorcerer. she has caused us no harm." he continued, an unknown emotion in his eyes. "surely not everyone who practices magic can be evil."

"you are right, arthur. of course there are some dark people out there but i believe most of them who possess magic have a true and kind heart. just like us. they aren't much different." isabella explained carefully as she felt merlin shift behind her. she glanced at him for a moment, as he had to look away—she guessed he had gotten emotional.

"it is time." morgause spoke softly, blowing out a candle, holding her hand out for him to take.

isabella stepped closer to merlin, holding onto his arm in slight fear and interest about what could happen. morgause spoke an incantation and arthur closed his eyes.

a harsh wind blew against their faces, isabella's damp hair almost dry as they looked over at arthur who opened his eyes in disbelief, as if someone had called his name.

tears filled isabella's eyes from shock as arthur's mother walked towards him, bringing him in for a hug. she had long blonde hair, like arthur's, and kind eyes. "when i last held you, you were a tiny baby. i remember your eyes. you were staring up at me. those few seconds i held you were the most precious of my life." she cupped his cheek with a smile.

"im so sorry." arthur whispered, his voice breaking.

"you have nothing to be sorry for." igraine shook her head fondly.

"it was my birth that caused you to die—" arthur replied as igraine quickly cut him off.

"no, you are not to blame." she said sternly.

"but i cannot bear the thought that you died because of me." arthur's eyes filled with tears as igraine hugged him again.

"do not think that. it is your father who should carry the guilt for what happened."

there it was.

isabella widened her eyes slightly as she looked at merlin who frowned. arthur had froze slightly, a sudden anger overcoming him. "what do you mean?" he asked.

"it is not important. what matters is that you lived." igraine replied quickly.

"why should my father feel guilty?" arthur continued, pulling away from the hug to talk to her properly.

"it is better left in the past."

"you cannot leave me with more questions. please." arthur begged, holding onto her hands as igraine sighed.

"your father...he was desperate for an heir. without a son, the pendragon dynasty would come to an end. but i could not conceive." igraine told him hesitantly.

"then how was i born?" he asked, a frown on his face as he took it all in. igraine sniffled as he stepped closer, "tell me."

"your father betrayed me. he went to the sorceress nimueh and asked for her help in conceiving a child. you were born of magic." she spoke. isabella and merlin's eyes widened suddenly as arthur fought away the tears.

"that's not true." he replied quietly.

"i'm sorry, arthur. your father has deceived you as he deceived me. to create a life, a life must be taken." igraine held his hands as morgause frowned in interest. "your father knew that."

"no." arthur shook his head, his voice breaking.

"he sacrificed my life so the pendragon dynasty could continue it makes you no less my son not me any less proud of you. now i see you, i would have given my life willingly. do not let this knowledge change you." igraine spoke as isabella frowned at the tears on arthur's cheeks.

igraine suddenly turned to the princess, who grew nervous, making sure to bow for the former queen. "it is a pleasure to finally meet you, princess isabella. please take care of my boy." she begged.

"i will. you have my word." isabella replied quickly, noticing her time was almost up.

arthur opened his eyes again, and igraine was gone. "no. bring her back!" arthur turned to morgause with a pleading expression.

"i cannot. i am sorry." morgause told him sincerely. "once the doorway is closed, it is closed forever."

"i am truly sorry that you learned of your mother's fate in this way. i only imagine how it must feel to discover your father is responsible for her death." she pushed, making isabella raise her eyebrows.
morgause wanted to come between them.

"it is an unforgivable betrayal." and then she left.

"are you alright?" isabella asked carefully as she walked up to arthur.

he didn't reply, and isabella brought him in for a hug, which he gladly returned, the two stood there for a few moments, and isabella felt his tears on the back of her shoulder. she rubbed the back of his neck comfortingly.

"fetch the horses." arthur said to merlin, a sudden anger overcoming him. "we are returning to camelot."

ARTHUR DIDN'T speak the whole journey back, and it made isabella nervous. he was angry. she feared for the king of camelot.

arthur got off his horse as they reached the courtyard, grabbing his sword and headed inside as isabella's heart dropped.

she ignored the guard's help to get her off the horse and jumped off, rushing up the steps with merlin following closely behind.

"arthur, what are you doing?" isabella asked in a panicked tone as she rushed up the steps. merlin went to speak to gaius about what happened. he must have been upset after everything uther has done to sorcerers, only for him to use one to conceive an heir.

isabella rushed into the castle and towards the throne room, however, the doors were barricaded by guards and sir leon when isabella came to it. "what are you doing? let me in!" she said impatiently.

"the king ordered for no one to enter, your grace." sir leon replied regretfully.

merlin raced over to them, also attempting to get inside. "stop it!" sir leon exclaimed, pushing merlin to a wall.

"they're going to kill each other!" merlin shouted as they heard the sound of yelling and swords clashing against each other.

sir leon's eyes widened. "i order you, let us in. now!" isabella told him as sir leon nodded immediately and opened the doors.

they entered to see arthur with his sword against uther's throat as isabella's eyes widened, as did merlin's.

"arthur, don't!" merlin yelled. "i know you don't want to do this!"

"my mother is dead because of him!" arthur shouted in reply.

"arthur...killing your father won't bring her back. don't you remember? i killed the man who killed my mother and what did that do? absolutely nothing! i felt better for a few moments, before i then felt even worse because nothing happened. i had just killed him like he killed my mother. it doesn't help, arthur." isabella exclaimed as she walked closer to them both. "if anything i feel like i am as bad as him. because i went to his level for revenge."

merlin glanced at her in worry, having not realised this. arthur paused slightly. "you have lost one parent. do you really want to loose another?" she continued.

"listen to her, arthur." uther said as arthur pressed the sword closer uther.

"please. put the sword down." isabella said gently. "it feels right in the moment but it won't in the long run, i can assure you that."

"you heard what my mother said. after everything he has done, do you believe he deserves to live?!" arthur shouted louder than before as isabella frowned. "he executes those who use magic and he has used it himself! you have caused so much suffering and pain. i will put an end to that."

merlin winced suddenly, and isabella glanced at him. "morgause is lying." he began, tears filling his eyes as he couldn't believe what he was about to say.

"she's an enchantress. she tricked you. that was not your mother you saw—it was an illusion." merlin tried to convince him, his own tears threatening to fall.

"everthi—" merlin's voice broke as he stopped, letting a tear fall, but quickly wiping it. "everything your mother said to you...those were morgause's words." he said painfully.

"you don't know that!" arthur exclaimed.

"this has been her plan all along, to turn you against your father, and if you kill him, the kingdom will be destroyed. this is what she wants." isabella continued for merlin, making everything up on the spot to try and stop what was happening.

arthur stopped, the anger slowly disappearing. "listen to them. they are speaking the truth." uther said tiredly as arthur pointed the sword again harshly at his throat.

"swear to me it isn't true." he yelled. "swear you are not responsible for my mother's death! give me your word!"

uther's eyes flickered with guilt, "i swear on my life, i loved your mother. there isn't a day that passes that i don't wish that she was still alive." uther's voice broke as tears filled his eyes, and so did arthur's.

"i could never have done anything to hurt her." uther finished, watching as tears fell from arthur's cheeks.

arthur loosened his grip and let out a sob, falling into his knees. isabella looked at him sadly as uther pulled him in for a hug, his head resting on arthur's, the young prince leaning against his knees as if he was a child again.

"my son. you mean more to me than...than anything." uther sobbed, for what felt like the first time since his wife's death, he began to cry again.

uther looked at isabella and gently waved her over. she slowly walked over to them crouched to arthur's level to hug him, uther's arm wrapping around the both of them.

"i'm sorry. i'm sorry." arthur whispered, his voice breaking as isabella rested her head on his shoulder.

"you are not to blame." uther said to him, pressing a kiss to his head.

"i am sorry for the way i have acted towards you both at times. you both are my true family. one day you will rule this kingdom, and i have no doubt in my mind you will do well. please forgive me." uther said sincerely.

isabella nodded in response as arthur forgave him. it was side she had never seen to uther before. did she believe him? she didn't know just yet.

perhaps she would never know of uther's true intentions and what really happened the night of arthur's birth.
