The Demon Within

The purple light slowly dissipated to reveal the hustle and bustle of a street market in full swing.

The noise of people buying goods and the stallholders shouting out their trade to the waiting customers.

"Fruit and veg! Get your fruit and veg!" One older man shouted out from the stall in front of me, his white hair poking out underneath his white trilby hat.

How the fuck had I got here?

I looked around and people were clearly dressed for the period. Yep, I'm still in this... memory? Dream? To be honest, I had no bloody idea what the fuck was going on.

All I knew was that I had just met Kian as a kid, how he had been all those years ago before he was tainted by the supernatural. Then I spotted him. Apart from what he wore, he looked pretty much the same as he was lying back in the High Lord's office on my lap.

His long blonde hair was dirty, as was the white shirt and grey trousers he had on. I headed towards him through the throng of people as he casually strolled past the edge of a group of people who had congregated by the fruit and veg stall.

I watched as Kian moved past an elderly woman in a thick and heavy-looking lilac and lace dress. With a quick tug as he bumped into her, he had taken the small leather purse that had been attached to the belt around her waist.

"Excuse me, Ma'am," Kian said with a smile "That was entirely my fault."

What a cocky little shit...

"That's okay, dear." the lady said, smiling back at him.

Then Kian's eyes locked onto mine, his eyes narrowed into confusion as he made his way over to me.

"Alec." He said "Right? I remember you. You look exactly the same as the last time I saw you."

"Yeah," I replied looking around to make sure nobody was listening in "Let's get out of the crowd, eh? Then we can talk."

Kian nodded and led the way out of the crowd and into a secluded alleyway off the main street. As soon as we made sure that we weren't followed Kian pulled out a small knife from the pocket of his trousers, pushed me up against the wall and held it against my neck.

"Who the fuck are you?" He asked, "Because, by my count, you haven't aged a day in seven years."

I could feel the metal of the knife burning against my skin, making it hard for me to concentrate on Kian and his questions.

Shit, that burns like hell...

"What is that knife made from?" I asked him, my voice laced with pain.

"It's silver," Kian replied as he pulled the knife away "I stole it from a Merchant down by the docks. My God, your neck..."

With his free hand, he traced a finger lightly over the spot where the knife had burned my skin.

"How could silver burn you, are you some kind of demon?"

"No, I'm a werewolf."

"That's just a myth," Kian said dismissively "Surely, an old tale to scare children at night."

"This... none of this is real," I explained "We're inside your memories, I think."

Kian frowned at me then, his eyebrows knitted together as he took in my words.

Why was he so fucking hot when he got annoyed?

"You think that I'm... hot?"

What the fuck? How could he read my thoughts?

"So, you know what I'm thinking about?" I asked him "You can read my mind?"

Kian nodded "I was born with the gift," he replied "It hit hard after puberty and it's annoying as hell, but, it can have it's uses. Like right now, for example."

"Oh yeah, and why is that?"

I backed up against the wall as Kian leaned in to whisper in my ear, his hot breath making my body melt and sending a shiver up my spine.

Oh damn...

"Because I know what you want to do to me."

"You... do?"

He grinned and kissed me, our tounges battling for control. I felt him grab my arms and pin them against the wall, our bodies almost feeling like they were merging against the wall and yet it was somehow still managing to hold us up.

Then suddenly Kian broke the kiss and stepped back to look at me. I went to follow him, but, I couldn't move my arms from the wall.

What the fuck? No matter how hard I pulled, my arms were firmly stuck against the cold, rough bricks.

"Kian, what the hell?"

I looked again at Kian and there was a nasty glint in his eyes and an edge to his smile that definitely hadn't been there a minute ago. Shit. The demon.

"Oh, Alec, you made that far too easy." Kian replied, "Not that it wasn't fun."

Suddenly I became uncomfortably aware of the problem currently growing in my pants. Damn it! Why are things never bloody simple?

"Where the hell is Kian?" I asked "Because you're sure as shit not him."

"Oh, he's probably right where you left him in that dump of a factory. That was where I found him all those years ago, hiding in the dirt and the grime, living off of whatever stolen food he could get from the market. He was a mess before I saved him, and that's where I locked him away."

"You mean before you possessed him?" I said, "Just let him go."

"No!" Kian snapped "He is mine!"

"He's not yours, whoever the fuck you are, he's mine. And I'm his," I said cutting him off "So I'm telling you one last time... get the hell out of my boyfriend!"

Kian smirked then, the demon within smiling out and oozing with barely contained malice.

"Do you think that you're safe in here, Alec?" he asked softly "Because I can still rip your insides out and bathe in your blood without a second thought. I can make Kian watch, it'll be fun to see him squirm."

Then the sliver knife caught the sunlight with a flash as Kian flicked it upwards and suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my side.

Looking down I saw the black, embossed handle of the knife sticking out the right side of my stomach. I felt around the wound and then couldn't take my eyes away from my hand as it became drenched in blood. I dropped to my knees and felt my head start to swim around in circles as I looked at my hand. And the blood. It was fucking everywhere...

Oh shit... that can't be good.

"Why?" I asked, feeling a thin line of blood run down the right side of my mouth.

"Because The Master requested that you die." Kian replied simply, seeming almost confused by the question "Oh, it'll take a while. No rush. For me, it lacks a certain something... but, I'm just a lowly demon. A mouthpiece, if you will, who am I to question his judgement?"

"You... won't get away... with this..."

"I already have." Kian said, his eyes shining with glee as he watched me "And there's nothing you can..."

While he was distracted I pulled the knife out of my side. The pain racked through my body like a surging wave of heat, and I was just bloody glad that I managed to stay conscious.

Shit... I was going to die in here.

No! I wouldn't give in like that. I couldn't. Too much was resting on me surviving to get out of here, least of all Kian's life. I had to get this fucking demon out of him...

I held out the knife, which was now coated in a thick layer of my blood. Leaning forward, I thrust it deep into Kian's leg. If I was going to go out like this, then I was damn well going to put up a fight first.

"Fuck!"

Before Kian could react to what I had done a bright purple light shone from the knife and the alleyway disappeared in a haze.
