Seems I Have A Reputation

Victoria joined us outside ten minutes later, Eddie Starr just behind her, very much awake and no longer blinded by her spell.

"What the fuck, Vic?" I asked her "Why is he with you? And how come you let him see?"

"Because Eddie here isn't going to say anything about what's happened here, are you?"

Eddie just shook his head, obviously too scared to speak. To be fair, we had blinded him with magic and knocked him out. If I were him, I would be running a bloody mile to get away.

"I won't breathe a word." He eventually squeaked, the fake American accent long gone "Who would bloody believe me anyway?! I tell people that I was blinded and knocked out by a werewolf, a witch and an Angel... they'll lock me up in the nuthouse."

Yeah, that much was true. Society would label him as a fucking looney just for mentioning it.

He wasn't going to talk.

"So, we're just going to let this human go free then?" Michael asked eyeing up Eddie.

"Why shouldn't we?" Victoria asked.

"Excuse me, I am standing right here!" Eddie piped up "You people are fucking crazy, you know that? Ok, you know what? Screw this. I'm going to go now, I need to find myself a new bloody cameraman thanks to you lot!"

Eddie then jumped up into the van, turned it on and sped off into the night. I can't say that I blame him. We probably sounded like fucking monsters to him, not to mention the kidnapping angle.

Fuck. It sounds bad when I put it like that...

"So, do we fly now?" Michael asked, looking at us hopefully.

"Well, Dorian, managed to invade my magic so it's probably safest," Victoria admitted.

"I'm not good with heights." I said to Michael "So, how do we do this?"

Michael looked at me quizzically, as if he couldn't quite understand what I had said. Maybe the fact that I didn't like heights just refused to register in hid mind. As he was graced with wings and the ability to fly, it probably didn't phase him at all, but I fucking hated the thought. I pictured myself and Victoria straddling Michael like a horse and him then struggling to take off with the weight of both of us. Yeah, it didn't exactly fill me with confidence.

"Well, I could displace you both back to Moonstone." Michael offered "But, I don't have as much control over where you might end up."

"You're talking about what you did to Dorian and M." I realised "Is it dangerous?"

"It's unpredictable."

Well, we've faced worse odds...

"So is what happens when I transform." I said, "But, I'm willing to take the risk if you guys are?"

Victoria looked at me, her eyes narrowing in annoyance. I didn't need Kian's mind-reading skills to know that she wasn't exactly thrilled by my idea. She just stared at me, her bright green eyes burning into mine until she eventually gave in and looked away.

Thank fuck. I wasn't sure that I could have held her gaze much longer.

"So, shall I take that as a 'yes'?" Michael asked looking from me to Victoria like a confused puppy who wasn't sure who to go to.

"Yes." I replied, "If you can aim for the Paper Hearts shop, but, anywhere in Moonstone will be fine."

"Okay then, I recommend closing your eyes for this." Michael said as a brilliant white light started to shine from his hand "I'll meet you guys there as soon as I finish up here."

He raised his hand and the light from his hand sped towards us, I put an arm up to cover my eyes as it seemed to burn all around us.

When the light finally dimmed and vanished, I briefly saw the familiar surroundings of the office in the back of the Paper Hearts shop before a black mass jumped towards me.

"Alec!"

Will's hug knocked the breath out of me, and maybe even cracked a rib or two in the process.

"You can let go." I said after realising that he wasn't planning on letting me go any time soon "It's getting kind of weird now."

"Sorry." He said as he let me go "I'm really sorry about this."

What the fuck was he talking about?

I looked around, and the body of the shop owner was gone, as was the bloodstain on the carpet.

"I couldn't stop them," Will said.

"Where the hell is the body?" I heard Victoria say. She headed towards Will, green flames burning in her hand "Did you set us up?"

"No, I swear," Will said putting his hands up "But, I didn't exactly want to end up neutralised. You know what that's like, right?" He smiled.

"You have no fucking idea what I went through," I said softly, the smile vanishing from Will's face "I went through hell. I was hunted down like a criminal, people died."

"And, it seems you left yet another body in your wake, Mr Colby." A voice said from behind me.

As I turned around, I saw that the door to the office was open and standing in the doorway was a strange man dressed in the red cameo gear of S.P.E.C.T.R.E, his black curly hair hung down over his deep brown eyes which looked directly at me.

He stepped into the room, and in the glaring light of the office, his skin seemed almost translucent, like it wasn't there at all. I blinked and looked again, but when I did his skin seemed to be normal.

Odd.

"I am Councillor Neville King." He said, "Head of S.P.E.C.T.R.E, I've heard a lot about you."

"I'm sure you have." I replied, "Seems I have a reputation."

Not one that I wanted or necessarily appreciated, that was for sure. Everywhere we went people knew exactly who I was and it was really starting to get to me. It's like I was some sort of weird celebrity.

"Quite." Neville said, "Mr Colby, I need you to accompany me to the Hub, we need to discuss what happened here."

"What we need to talk about is finding Kian Richards." I replied, "He's missing and..."

Neville put a gloved hand up to stop me "You just need to come with me."

Something was wrong here...

"What happens if I don't?"

Neville leaned in, our faces almost touching, his eyes never leaving mine "Then I make you and trust me, I won't be gentle about it."

"Is he under arrest?" Victoria asked, "Because, if he is, then he has the right to representation."

"Are you volunteering, Miss Brown?"

"As his guide is currently missing, yes, I am." Victoria replied, "We'll come with you."

Vic, I really hope you have a bloody plan to get us out of this... I don't fancy ending up neutralised.

There was a moment when it seemed like Neville would never stop looking into my eyes, but he eventually took a step back and pointed to the door.

"Right this way then..."

"I'll come too." Will cut in "I said that I would help you, Alec, and I will."

"I don't need your help, Will." I shot back at him "Just, keep looking for Kian, that's what I need."

Will didn't get the chance to answer as a very pale looking man put his head through the door.

"Uh, Boss, there's a guy out the front... he says he's an angel."

Neville was speechless for a moment, his face a picture of concern as the words sunk in.

"An angel?" He asked, "Does he have any proof, Agent Gibbs?"

Gibbs? I knew that name... Southwood and Gibbs... he was one of the Agents sent to collect me after the attacks that Jonathan framed me for.

"He has wings, Boss," Gibbs replied.

"Wings?"

"Yeah, with white feathers like a freaking bird. He says he's here to meet with Colby and his friends."

Michael. He made it.

"Any other friends of yours that I should be expecting?" Neville asked turning to look at me once more "Because I am not here to babysit."

"Michael is with us." I said, "He had to leave after we did, there's nobody else coming."

I wasn't sure he believed me.

"Okay, Gibbs, tell the angel to put his wings away and get him into the van. I'll bring out the others." Neville said, "This place is starting to give me a fucking headache."

We headed through the shop and out into the street where a large black van was parked up. The side door rolled open as we reached it to reveal Michael sitting on a row of seats between two armed S.P.E.C.T.R.E agents, their faces fully covered by helmets that marched the red of their uniforms.

Crap. There was no getting out of this.

I followed Victoria into the van and turned to see Will who had stayed on the pavement, looking around nervously at the silent agents.

"I'll keep looking." He said eventually "If Kian is out there, then I promise you that I'll find him."

The door rolled shut before I could answer him, and to be honest, I was glad. I fucking hated goodbyes. Plus, he had let us get into this mess... I wasn't going to forgive him that easily.

As the van's engine roared into life and I felt it roll off on its journey back to the Hub, my mind travelled back to Kian. I could still picture his goofy fangs whenever he smiled, his long black leather coat, his really crap jokes. I missed him so bloody much.

I will find you, Kian. That's a promise.
