Part 6: Daniel (8 Letters Series)
In Too Deep
(I heard your sirens call, it was beautiful)
Daniel's POV
Today me, Jack, Zach, and Jonah were going on a boat trip to get our minds off the death of our brother. We were headed to a secluded area, with no signs of people. On the way there, our tour guide kept telling us stories about the place. He mentioned that there were legends of sirens there, but that they were just a myth. I was currently looking out over the water as we sped away to the remote island. I saw, what seemed to be like a mermaid tail.
"Hey, this is gonna sound stupid, but are there any mermaids here?" Some of the boys laughed at me as I looked at our guide, completely serious.
"Well I mean sirens and mermaids are very similar looking," the boys stopped laughing and looked at him.
"Why?" He asked. I looked back over to where I saw it.
"I thought I saw a mermaid tail," I then pointed to where I saw it.
"Over there." Our guide, Thomas, got out his binoculars and put them up to his eyes. After a few seconds of looking in the direction I pointed, he pulled them down.
"I don't see anything, must've been your imagination" he informed. I looked back over to the water.
"Yeah...I guess so" I whispered to myself. After five more minutes we finally made it to the island. Our guide hooked up the boat to a tree so it wouldn't float away and a few guys got off the boat and explored a little bit. I, along with Jonah, sat on the boat.
"I wish Corbyn were here" I looked at him.
"Yeah...me too" after I said that I heard singing. I looked all around me.
"Do you hear that?" I asked Jonah. He slowly moved into a different position.
"Yeah" I looked out over the water. I saw something splash. Something big.
"Uh hey Thomas" I heard Jonah walking off the boat to go find him. I walked closer to the end of the boat, as the splashes came closer. Once I got to the end of the boat the splashing stopped.
"Hello?" I said, coweringly, but also curiously. I heard the singing again. I saw a head start to come out of the water. It was a girl. And she was singing. Mesmerized by her beauty, I didn't hear the guys shouting at me to get out of the boat. She put her hands on the boat and lifted
herself onto it. She had a tail. So that's what I saw. I looked from her tail into her evergreen eyes. Her face inches from mine. She put her hands onto my cheeks and slowly leaned forward. I closed my eyes as her lips met mine. I was in such a trance, I didn't even realize that she'd pulled me under the water. I opened my eyes and found myself drowning at the bottom of the ocean.
