A dark day for Summer, June and May

The phone rang...

An electronic club track increased in volume from a satchel messenger bag that hung thigh length.

"You are joking!"Summer uttered under her breath as she stood on a crowded bus, attracting the attention of many equally grumpy passengers who surrounded her.

She waited it out until the noise abruptly seized.

Then...

The phone rang again...

"Oh my!" she uttered out loud a she looked skyward "Sss, Sorry people" she apologies openly as she looked around nervously at the impatient people around her.

She waited it out again until it ended.

"Sorry" she said again quietly.

Then

The phone rang again...

"Think you better answer that love" a male voice somewhere in the gathering suggested.

Summer nodded her head before awkwardly attempting to wriggle her fingers into her bag; in the process, she accidently elbowed a nearby older woman.

"Do you mind!" the stranger snapped.

"Sorry" Summer replied briefly halting her task in order to address the disgruntle lady.

Summer switched her hand that was on that in her bag with the hand that she had just pulled out of her bag, effectively turning around. She now stood just a couple of inches from an older man whose face was eye level with hers. She smiled politely at the man before her before she leaned to her side to reach into her bag; she managed to grasp and pull up the flap, however the arm strap slid off her shoulder and she dropped her bag.

"Sorry" she stated with a wince.

Summer awkwardly squatted in order to retrieve her bag, bumping into a man behind her with her backside.

"Sorry" Summer apologised as she pulled her now silent bag back onto her shoulder and turned to face the man she bumped in to - in the process hitting the lady she elbowed previously.

"Watch it!" the irate woman to her side snapped again.

The bus swerved around a corner, causing a distracted Summer to fall backwards into the older man she had just stood nose to nose with. He harshly pushed her away, resulting in her landing sideways into the woman she had accidentally struck twice.

"Are you taking the Mick!" the woman shouted as she grasped a handful of Summers jacket arm.

"Honestly I'm just..."

The phone rang...

A flustered Summers eyes widened then glazed below her furrowed brow.

She had had enough, deciding to make her exit; she shoved past her fellow commuters who created a short obstacle as she moved towards the bus entrance - she pulled the door open of the stationary bus and rushed through the neighbouring traffic halted at the lights.

Once she reached the pavernment, she threw back the satchel flap, widened the half zipped opening and rummaged around before she grasped her mobile, which stopped ringing upon their contact.

"Nooooooooooo!" Summer screamed, earning looks from passer-bys.

She charged forward, fire in her eyes and a scowl on her face, phone tight in her tense hand.

People moved out her way.

Then...

The phone rang...

"WHAT THE..." Summer shouted as she almost dropped her phone, composing herself, she bought the device to view, her swiped her finger swiftly across the screen, moved the phone to her ear and exhaled sharply "You know what, I just had to get off bus 'cos..."

"Summer..." a quiet voice uttered.

"Yeah it's Summer, I'm sure you already know" Summer seethed.

"Summer what's your... You know what... Mum's in hospital, that's what I rang to say"

"Is that you May?" Summer asked in a high pitch and surprised tone as she stopped in her tracks.

"Yeah it's me" May answered in a tired sounding voice.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, I've been getting bothered all weekend, I took this Saturday off and sales people have been bombarding me with cold call, you know, it's as if they knew I was at home" Summer explained.

"Yeah, Summer, mum, she's here at 'Dual way general', she got knocked over" May stated.

"She what?" Summer stated as her features washed with horror.

"Apparently, she was on the phone when she wondered into the road" May said in a wavering voice "June's been here all night, thin.. Things don't look good".

"Oh my goodness" Summer said sadly.
