Runnin'
We waited until nighttime to come back to the apartment, me and Harry got there before Lloyd did, he was supposed to get us some drinks. I noticed Petey's cage was empty. I walked to the cage to see Petey headless on the grassy bottom.
"Harry, bad news."
"What?"
He then realized his bird was dead.
"Ohhhh."
He sunk to the couch. Just then, Lloyd walked in, slammed the door and dropped to the ground moaning.
"Where's the booze?" Harry asked.
"I got robbed by a sweet old lady on a motorized cart...I didn't even see it coming."
Harry started moaning. Lloyd went to cheer Harry up.
"Harry? Harry, come on Harry, cheer up."
"It's worse Lloyd, my parakeet Petey."
"Yeah?"
"He's dead!"
"Aw man, I'm sorry Harry. What happened?"
"His head fell off!"
"His head fell off?"
"Yeah he was pretty old."
Lloyd stood up and walked towards the cage.
"Agh! That's it...I've had it with this dump! We got no food, we got no jobs, our pets heads are falling off!"
"Ok, just calm down," me and Harry said.
"What the hell are we doing here Harry, Nell? We gotta get out of this town!"
"Yeah and go where?" I asked
"Where are we gonna go?" Harry asked.
"I'll tell ya where, some place warm, a place where the beer flows like wine, where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talking about a little place called Aspen."
"I don't know Lloyd, the French are assholes. Wait a minute."
Harry and I stood up.
"Wait a minute, I know what you're up to mister, yeah, you just wanna go to Aspen and find that girl who lost her briefcase, and you need us to drive you there right! Am I right!?"
"Yeah so!"
"Am I right!? Am I right!?"
"Yeah so! So I wanna go some place where we know somebody who can pluck us into the social pipeline."
"No no no no no Lloyd, no! I say we stay here, we hunt for jobs, and we keep saving our money for the worm store. I don't about you but I'm getting sick and tired of running from creditors!"
Lloyd was looking out the window sadly.
"We'll get through this together like we always done since we were teenagers," I said.
I wanted to hug him but he turned his head to us to say something.
"You know what I'm sick and tired of? I'm sick and tired of having to eke my way through life, I'm sick and tired of being a nobody, most of all, I'm sick and tired of having nobody."
Lloyd was about to break, breaking our hearts.
"Ok Lloyd, Aspen it is," Harry said.
He opened his arms.
"You better not be fooling."
We formed a group hug, Lloyd was crying loudly.
"Ok ok, just let out and have a good cry."
Early the next morning, we were off in the dog van.
