An extension reducing tension

Alistair's Pov

I was alerted by a gentle stroke on my cheek. I half opened my eyes, only to find Evelyn towering over me. I smiled at the generosity of my sun on me. "Morning", she whispered slowly as she pulled herself back.

"With that view, it's definitely a good morning" I rose up and stretched myself before coming back to my senses again. Evelyn was nowhere in sight and was probably showering. I checked my phone and ignored all the notifications which popped continuously on my screen after turning the mobile data on.

I quickly texted Jane a message Will be there in an hour

I turned off my phone and quickly ordered breakfast for us. As soon as she was visible to my eyes again, I entered the washroom to freshen up. I washed my face, only wishing for Evelyn to join me in the shower.

As soon as I was done, I marched downstairs to collect breakfast. They do deliver it in our rooms but their tardiness in service made me want to grab it myself. I collected the omelets, loaves of bread, and orange juices which were neatly decorated on a tray.

After eating to our stomach's content, we checked out of the rooms, surrendered our keys, and made our way towards my car.

"Hey man", I encountered Jason who happened to be Chace's cousin. I wiped out the small droplets of water that formed on my forehead because once again my real identity was one name away to be exposed in front of Evelyn.

I hugged him "Hey, brother", I fake smiled. Jason had always been an ass to Chace. The only reason why he visited Huffers was that he wanted to acquire it, so he paid monthly visits to keep a check around, only to find if there was an error in the functioning of it. Jason was Chace's uncle's son.

"So, is she your new entertainer? The one to cure your manly desire", he glanced looking at Evelyn "you find a good cure to that long dick of yours and the best part is, the women themselves are sick for you. You don't need to hire sluts like the rest of us"

"Let's go, Evelyn. I held her hand and opened the car door for her. She, without arguing, sat inside, her face straight and calm. She seemed affected, who wouldn't be.

"Shut your filthy fucking mouth up", I wanted to punch him but I couldn't. I had too many strings attached at the moment. One, of course, was the matter would worsen.

"I apologize on his behalf", I broke the silence while I continued to drive. Evelyn just nodded and gave me an assuring smile. I, for a fact, knew that she was deeply hurt by his remarks.

As soon as we reached Evelyn's building, I opened the door for her to walk out. She mooched towards the gate, her head facing the ground. I held her back by pulling her with the help of her wrists. She locked her eyes with mine for a couple of seconds and then started looking towards the ground again.

I caressed her shoulders, stroked her cheek with my thumb, and side the strands of the hair which rested on her face behind her ears. With a bewildered expression, she arched her right brow and questioned: "What is it?"

I pulled her close, her side face resting on my chest. I fondled the back of her head with my left hand and ran my right hand against her back. "Do I not deserve a goodbye hug?"

"It's a farewell. Yes you do"

"I'm not leaving you. You don't need to take that dork's words seriously Leaf. Do you not trust me enough?"

"Were they not facts", she pulled herself back and murmured slowly.

"You are my fact, rest everything is fiction", I meant it.

She nodded unsatisfied with my answer. I knew that she wasn't in a state to understand my point so I decided to stay quiet for a while. We passed through the building and went towards the reception. Jane's face beamed when she saw me coming with Evelyn. She still felt overburdened with the amount of money she owed me, even though I made sure to clear it off.

"Welcome back", Jane greeted "Even though it wasn't really required"

"What do you mean by that?" I arched my brows.

"That Rosaline wouldn't be back until tomorrow. I just got her text", she propelled the phone towards my direction which read out Rosaline's message which Jane read out to me.

I snorted, "So I'll drop her tomorrow then--"

"No, I guess I should stay back", Evelyn didn't let me complete my sentence.

"I said I'm taking you with me", I replied in a louder tone keeping the smile constant on my face. That's one thing I learned from my father, no matter how angry you get, you always need to stick to that smile.

Jane simply nodded knowing that my word was the last and she couldn't do anything about it. "I need to speak to you in private, my dear", Jane removed her spectacles which surfaced on her nose and kept it carefully in a box. Evelyn simply nodded knowing that she had to leave us in isolation for us to talk.

"Wait for me in the car, will you?" I threw my keys in her direction and waited for her to go out of sight. As soon as she exited the building I took a seat right in front of Jane and started with my interrogation. I arched my right brow waiting for her to get started.

She paused for a while like she was preparing a speech. "Alistair"

"Arnold"- I cut her off

"Doesn't matter", she instinctively replied, "We both know that your father is involved in the ownership and functioning of this place, even though the one who looks after it is Rosaline", she looked at me and continued, " It's been years since this small sex hole functioning"

"Which precisely is?"

"22 years"

"And Evelyn's age is?" I couldn't help but question.

"24 years", I nodded trying to link the entire situation up but couldn't because it all seemed like an open-ended mystery, and Sherlock did not have any real-life existence. "In these 24 years, I've rarely seen Mr. Dickman around. His visits are kind of really infrequent. I'm not really certain about it, but the game's big this time, maybe even ugly. You can't keep lying to her", she rose her hands surrendering to me "I'm seeing that you're quite affectionate with her"

I listened carefully and spoke back after a while "Thanks for your concern. I'll be sure to bring her back tomorrow on time".

I couldn't talk to Jane like she was my friend because she wasn't. Even though she was nice enough to help me, I couldn't trust her. My reasons were simple, if she can trait on someone who fed her with bread for 22 years then she had no reason to be faithful with me.

I waved her goodbye and rushed towards my car again. Evelyn had her face buried in her thighs. I assumed she was sleeping so I decided to not wake her up. I rode silently until I felt a hand on my thigh. "Good Morning, princess", I stroked her cheek with my left hand and made sure to operate the steering with my right.

"You really didn't have to"

"How many times do I say that I want to", I cut her off and continued, "So are you up for a movie?"

She nodded with a smile. I scheduled our day accordingly. In the back of my mind, I was rehearsing the questions I was going to ask my father. I had to be very cautious because one wrong move of mine could get me in serious trouble shifting all the accusations to my end. I was going to have my answers, even if it meant pushing myself off the cliff.

I decided to stall ourselves for the entire day at some other hotel as there were chances that Jason was still present at Huffers. I stopped at a nearby 3-star hotel and parked my car by the lot. I opened the door for Evelyn so that we could march towards our room.

"Good Morning Sir, it's so good to see you", the manager shook hands with me alarming me of my fake existence again. "Get him the best suite. It's on the hotel", he smiled whilst shaking my hands with both his hands. I let out a small sigh and replied "I really would like to pay for it"

"Skyford is in safe hands", he appreciated passing the key to me.

We strode towards our room after taking the elevator. I swiped the electronic key and thanked the man who assisted us in our room. "I thought we were going for the movies"

"We are, aren't we?" I replied and observed bewilderment across her face.

She questioned perplexed, "Here?"

I nodded pulling her towards the bed. "So what is your favorite genre?"

"I don't know. Anything which interests me", she answered.

"No Evelyn, I can't strip at the moment", I smirked "But if you want, I can do a little pole dance for you", I winked and pushed my body closer to hers, feeling her warmth and making sure that our breaths attacked each other "naked", I whispered in her ears, my lips touching her ear lobes.

She blushed, making the heat on her cheeks evident. She gasped throwing a pillow towards my face. I laughed witnessing her discomfort. "No, I'm serious", I arched my brows.

"I've once read a Nicholas Sparks novel and I'd love to see that movie", she thought for a while and answered.

"There are plenty of his books which have been adapted as movies", I replied scratching my head in confusion.

"What was the book about?"

"The girl dies at the end. She has cancer", I had no clue what she was talking about. I pulled my phone from my pocket and googled the plot she was describing.

"A walk to remember...?" I questioned arching my brows. Romantic books and novels were never really something I appreciated reading or watching during my past time. She nodded excitedly; her eyes shined giving me a sight of her which I rarely beheld.

I connected Chace's Netflix account to the hotel's television. It's not like I didn't have a Netflix account but---

The movie started with the disclaimer. The movie didn't even start and I felt the need to take a nap. I didn't make it evident that I wasn't really into that genre so I just rubbed my eyes to push away my tiredness and the urge to sleep.

"Arnold...?" Evelyn questioned and I simply nodded for her to complete her statement.

"You didn't take me to the movies because of what happened earlier, right?" she looked me in my eyes "Because I invite trouble wherever I go?"

"You really think I care?" a feeling of disconsolation rushed within me with her question. I never even thought about it and I honestly didn't care. I was saddened by the fact that every passing day Evelyn was feeling low about herself even though I did my best to comfort her but it seemed that all my efforts were going for a toss.

I jerked my body close to hers and comforted my head on her shoulder whilst we were on the bed. I saw her straight in her eyes and replied "I wanted this-", I pecked her cheek "Us", I entwined her hands lacing our fingers together "You and me, alone. Away. Distance. In peace", for a change, I was saying the truth. What I really meant and wasn't lying about it and now if you let me focus, I have a whole movie to see"

"She smiled", her face lightened up while she did so. We stayed like that and watched the movie. I wouldn't lie but it wasn't really a boring movie. I could manage some hours, for Evelyn.

"She's cute", I commented.

"Too bad she's gonna die", I broke the silence again.

"Oh, no, he really loves her. I hope she doesn't die", I couldn't stop myself from putting my views. Evelyn didn't speak; she just gave me a tight-lipped smile at my statements.

Marry me

"He's really gonna fulfill her last wish. You go boy. I'm so proud of you", I mentally clapped happily.

The movie was about to end when Landon goes to her father and apologizes for not letting Jamie witness a miracle. She did, it was you.

"This is my favorite part", Evelyn finally spoke. She caressed the skin on my hand, even when it was locked with hers. "You're my miracle", I could see small droplets of water forming in the corner of her eyes.

I hugged her, pulling her extremely close to me, till our bodies met. I locked my hands taking possession of her. Even though it was a hug, it felt more. If in that instant, I could mark her mine, I would. Every nerve in my body wanted to claim her but it never was as easy as it seemed.
