Elephas_Maximus: It's simple. Modern folklorists discovered the origins for every nursery rhyme imaginable. They've since found that "Ring Around the Rosie" emerged sometime around the 1600s. People didn't often write things down before then unless it had serious educational merit or was based in a kind of religious or sexual context. Even as an oral tradition, without any written evidence to the contrary, we can assume that it's more recent than the plague because we'd have heard SOMEthing about it before then.
$Horndog$: dude said oral tradition
Buck_the_beav: teeheehe (+1 upvote)
thefrick_23: sexual con-text? That like sexting? i'd like to give that a whirl @Elendil_rolls_5 U game?
Elendil_rolls_5: not on your life
13_Across: first publication of the nursery rhyme Ring around the Rosie was in Mother Goose, 1881.
STILL_whinging: google'd. different variations printed in 1880s.
Elendil_rolls_5: the dates are screwy, if it was public knowledge during the plague, it would not have gone into print out of the blue at the end of the 18th Century in a book for kids, and then rumored to be related to the plague way later.
wrong_dumbo_30: edit: 1880s means the 19th Century. [image: large eared elephant from the Disney cartoon feature, Dumbo]
Elendil_rolls_5: I'm so stupid, I always got that wrong in school.
!_astronutbag_!: a quick search shows way too many inconsistencies in the lyrics to validate a hidden meaning surrounding the plague. #NoConspiracyHere.
STILL_whinging: whatever. I still think there is some truth to my theory. And I got an A on the paper, so.
conspiracy_guy_101: so. CONSPIRACY GUYS!!!
13_Across: The first connections made between the plague and Ring around the Rosie were printed in a 1961 book by James Leason called "The Plague and The Fire". I cry bullspit.
love_0_is_0_blind: People need to stop trying to find hidden meanings in harmless childhood songs and stories. For real. Sometimes we just go around the mulberry bush, and nothing else.
viewer_discretion_330: wait...go AROUND the mulberry bush?? Of course. It all makes sense. info check ancient egyptian papyrus...search relief carvings for bushes... George Dubya Bush. Illuminati! ...get Nicolas Cage on the phone, stat!
Buck_the_beav: [image: miniaturized, wide-eyed, half-naked Nicolas Cage lying atop a vintage, candy apple red rotary phone. Meme lettering: 911? SOMEONE IS TRYING TO STEAL THE DECLARATION OF UNDA-MY-PANTS]
crispy_shifflett: sir, you are a genius
apollo_11_lies: what's a mulberry bush?
thefrick_23: not what, but who?
$Horndog$: who's bush we talkin bout here?
ominous_debt: #whatisleprosy don't forget

Elendil_rolls_5: flagged x10 plz
really_white_dad: clearly this song contains a coded lyric about a girl from the town of Mulberry.
ripe_fo_pikin: da mulberry ho!! all yall know dat story.
littlejohn_777: Mulberry thot

aptly_under_smell: #whoisLerosy bumped for entertainment value
Trekkie_thief: wow my grandmother used to sing it that way.
ominous_debt: what way?.
Trekkie_thief: Ring Around Lerosy
crispy_shifflett: fake
Trekkie_thief: I'm legit serious. My grandma sang it with the name Lerosy. I'm positive. It freaked out my mom.
really_white_dad: You heard her wrong.
ripe_fo_pikin: brain go bye-bye
chimpokomon_shoe_42: no dentures make consonants go byby
Trekkie_thief: Well, she did have dementia at the time. She's gone now. It was about six years ago. My mom said she was singing a lot of peculiar stuff. It started with America the Beautiful. At night she put herself to sleep with Ring around the Rosie. Or Lerosy, whatever. I don't know a ton about the disease she had.
$Horndog$: ur gma sounds hot
thefrick_23: those dentures tho
STILL_whinging: ok stop
13_Across: Dementia is very complicated. It's a form of alzheimers, which severely affects the memory. And it's different for everyone. Patients with alzheimers tend to be confused most of the day. The singing component is interesting because it's been proven that music increases brain activity in seniors. Maybe it was Grandma's way of retaining a sense of normalcy or a connection with everything around her. Either way, the singing does not seem out of the ordinary.
Elendil_rolls_5: with that specific music, I'd say she was reverting to a child-like state. But I agree with @13_Across that she didn't mean to say Lerosy because it's not connected. Check page two.
Trekkie_thief: the nurse said basically the same thing about the child-like stuff. But my mom was still freaking out.
$Horndog$: ur mom sounds hot im comin ova
Buck_the_beav: wuts wrong with a little music to set the mood? #grandmaistheperfectwingman
apollo_11_lies: just ignore the dumbos.
wrong_dumbo_30: [emoticon: crying elephant]
covert_lampshadey: I worked in a convalescent home in highschool. It can be a little spooky when you overhear them whipsering to themselves. Turst me, they have no idea what they're doing. It sounds like grandma lives with you guys. Tell your mom to remind herself that her mother is still inside and that its normal to feel uncomfortable with an ulzheimer's patient.
kush_recker: grandma died already. Read before responding.
Baristarexia: oh yeah. My sis worked at an old folks home and the men there liked to play grab ass. Sometimes with their own daughters which is really depressing.
brain_deluted: boom I just figured out what I'm going to do when I retire! Life goals: achieved.
littlejohn_777: #WoopsIHaveDimentia
!_astronutbag_!: that s some cold shit man
covert_lampshadey: Sorry about your grandma. And yes, the mind will go with old age. They can even forget the faces of their children. Truly sad.
Trekkie_thief: I should've explained myself better. My mom was freaking out because of the song. Like, that specific song. I guess it reminded her of the only time she had been spanked as a kid. She wouldn't talk about it much, but apparently it happened when she was young.
Sherbrooke_climber: more details
puppymillscandie: spanking is so wrong. Don't abuse your child, people!
aptly_under_smell: there is nothing wrong with a little discipline, my parents called it a "love tap"
love_0_is_0_blind: What did she do wrong?
10010110111_codie: something does not compute.
Trekkie_thief: Nothing. They were just singing the song. From what my ma remembers, her and some friends were in the backyard dancing in a circle, just singing the song and holding hands. That's it. Then my grandma comes running out, tears her away from the others and clamps a hand over her mouth. Then she takes my mom inside and beats her ass red with a wooden spoon. Grandma told her to never sing that song again. Totally crazy, right?
!_astronutbag_!: totally child abuse more like
viewer_discretion_330: my grandma used a switch. I had a sore ass most of childhood. And uknow what? I'm not a little shit like most of my friends. And I have a job. MAGA.
puppymillscandie: dcfs alert
crispy_shifflett: it sounds like your granda was deranged. Tell me, did she talk to elvis?
ObiWisdom_808: These aren't the nursery rhymes you're looking for. Move along.
Trekkie_thief: I know what you're all saying, but you have to know this came as a shock to all of us when we heard. This woman was a saint. And my mom had no reason to lie about it. She was really shaken up every night grandma would sing because she had completely forgotten about the whole beating. And then hearing that song over and over in my grandmas shaky voice. Gives me the creeps. Sometimes she would start mumbling about my grandpa whose been dead since 1995. Saying his name and saying she loved him. It's like she was whispering it to someone else in the room. And then she would sing the song again, super slowly, until she fell asleep.
brain_deluted: man, old people scare the shit out of me
Elendil_rolls_5: she was serenading Grandpa
horoscopy_959: or lerosy #WhoIsLerosy
ominous_debt: s0rry to burst your tail bubble, but grandma was just a crazy old bat who beat your moms and who didn't know the right words to ring around THE ROSIE. Lets kick the bucket on this forum already.
really_white_dad: Or, more likely, she knew the right words and you just heard her wrong. As I already said.
Trekkie_thief: I didn't hear her wrong. She wrote it that way too. She mentioned Lerosy in her diary.
