63|"...Nearly Kill Him..."
<Skyler's POV>
I grab my leather jacket and pull it over my shoulders. "Skyler!" Dallas yells. I whip my body around causing my head to spin and my lungs to strain.
"No! You don't get to talk, I'm going to go find Johnny!" I scream despite the lack of breath.
"Skyler please don't go alone," he begs pathetically.
"I won't be alone, I'll have Chris," I stress. Dallas widens his eyes and shakes his hands.
"No no no, don't bring her, do not bring Christina," he begs. I cock an eyebrow and cross my arms over my large belly.
"Why?" Dallas cringes when I ask him this.
"Just don't make me explain, do not take Christina out," he begs desperately. I roll my eyes.
"Fine than come on," I snarl. Dallas pulls a jacket over his shoulders and follows me out the door.
"Where should we look?" Dallas asks.
"The Curtis's house obviously," I say annoyed. Dallas tries desperately to catch up with me and my fast pace. My arms swing at my side violently as I speed walk towards the Curtis house.
"Skyler Elizabeth," Dallas begs as I walk much faster than him. I see out of the corner of my eye that he stops. I slow my pace a bit, the cold air nipping at my already red cheeks. "My father," he says. I stop dead I my tracks and hold my breath. Slowly, I turn on my heel and face the boy who is biting his lip tightly, turning the pink skin white. Before speaking I take a deep breath in.
"What?" Is all I manage to say. Dallas closes his eyes tightly as if blocking out a bad memory then opens then again, looking at me worriedly.
"The man looking into our house, it was my father," Dallas tells me. My body is frozen in its spot, my hair being flung around in the winter night wind. My hands stay balled in fists at my sides with numb fingertips. Hesitantly I take a careful step towards Dallas. Then another step and another until our toes are almost touching. I look up at him and he looks down at me scared. Dallas Winston is looking down at me mortified. His limbs shaking violently in anticipation and fright. His pupils are the dilated far too large.
I reach a tentative hand towards his wrist and pull his hand into my grasp. "Dallas, I didn't, I didn't know, I- I'm so sorry," I say apologetically. Dallas closes his eyes once again, but this time a cold tears slips down his cheek and falls onto the back of my hand. Dallas Winston is petrified and crying and my heart aches for him. His eyes open hastily and he grabs my hand tighter.
"Come on, let's find Johnny," he says as if he hasn't just told me his abusive father is in town. I shake the thought from my mind and walk with Dallas in the direction of the Curtis house. We make it there quickly and don't bother knocking on the door. Dallas opens the door before I even have the chance. Pony, Chris, Lena, and Steve look up at us urgently. Chris looks over from the kitchen and the rest from the living room. I spot Josh in his high chair at the dinner table playing with a napkin. What a simple child. They must see the worried expressions on our faces because they all look surprised and nervous. "Is John here?" Dallas asks immediately.
"No, he lives with you remember," Lena states lazily. I tighten my fist.
"This is serious Lena, he always comes home from the lake by five and it's seven right now," I tell her. Steve stands up and flicks a switchblade out of his back pocket.
"What are we waiting for? The Socs to nearly kill him again, move it!" Steve yells in a hurry. Lena jumps off the couch and Pony runs over from the chair. Chris looks at us in despair.
"I can't leave Josh here alone," Chris tells us, "I wish I could go but he's barely a year, I'll stay here alone." Chris barely had time to get her last word out when Dallas and I yell in unison.
"No!" Our eyes are wild and pleading and Chris just looks at us in utter shock. "Pony will stay with you," I tell her. Pony whips his glance to me with a frown and furrowed eyebrows.
"This is my best friend we are trying to find," he protests.
"Shit Skyler! We left Tibby at the house!" Dallas screams. In the midst of everything we must of forgotten her.
"Lena stay here with Chris, Dallas go get Tibby and make sure she is safe, Steve, Pony, and I will go find Johnny," I tell everyone. Steve bites his bottom lip in anticipation.
"I'm coming with you," Dallas protests, leaning over my short build. I take his arm and whisper in his ear.
"Your father is probably a lot stronger than I am so if he is there when you arrive you need to get him, I'll see you soon," I whisper to him before kissing him. Dallas nods and rushes out the door and sprints in the direction of our house. Lena hesitantly says with Chris after kissing Steve goodbye. The three of us remaining run out the door.
"Where to?" Steve asks.
"I hate to say it, but his parents house," I suggest. Steve gives me a grim face and Pony just becomes more determined. We sprint down the street through the cold air. I'm winded quickly between the cancer and the pregnancy, but I push on until my head feels like it will explode. "Steve, I have to, have to stop," I say with my hand over my heart. I begin to lower myself to the ground and sit on my knees.
"Skyler!" Steve says worriedly. Pony stops in his tracks and looks between me and Johnny's house which is only a few yards away. Steve kneels in front of me with wide eyes and grabs my wrists kindly. There is oil on his hands, from work I assume.
"I just need a second," I inform him solemnly.
"Skyler we gotta hurry," Steve tells me. I continue to stare down at the pavement.
"Why?" I ask in a haze.
"Because Pony just went in alone." The words chill me to the bone and I finally look up to see Pony and the door closing behind him.
