Second Chances
A Modern AU
Ship: Philidosia [Phillip x Theodosia]
Sometimes your past comes back, a second chance at an opportunity that you missed the first time around. And most of the time, people miss their second chance as well. Someone you haven't seen in years and won't ever see again, and they just let them go.
Phillip didn't have any intention of just letting them go. He could see the dark curls from across the store. Brushing his own curls behind his ear, he quickly shuffled through the Walmart shoppers. "Hey—"
Hearing the voice beside her, she quickly turned, startled. She looked exactly the same as he remember; tall, with skin like chocolate. Her hair was almost black from far away but glowed a light brown in the light. And those eyes... he'd never get over her eyes. So big and round and innocent, a golden brown that would bore into your soul.
Almost even with him height wise, she blinked a few times, as if she couldn't quit place where she knew him from. Like a dream you can't quit remember in the light of day but gave you infinite excitement in the dark, trying to place the blurry shapes you can't really picture. It's there, in your memory, but you don't know why or where or what or how...
"Phillip?" She asked suddenly, narrowing her eyes slightly as if she wasn't totally sure.
He smiled. "Hey, Theo."
Theodosia's face lit up. Oh, Phillip loved the way she smiled, so happy and filled with emotion. The way her nose scrunched up slightly, the way she rose her shoulders slightly.
She punched him lightly in the shoulder. "I haven't seen you in years! We were, what? Ten?"
"Yeah," he laughed, "yeah, so, uh, how've ya been?"
"Eh, here, there." She pushed her curls back with one hand, "how 'bout you?"
He shrugged. "I'm not interesting, unless you count the time I got a nose bleed on a roller coaster and blood splattered the people behind me."
If Phillip loved anything about Theodosia more than her smile, it was her laugh, breathy and quick, more of a puff of air. She was exactly the same; nothing had changed.
She was still perfect.
Sometimes life just brings you a piece of the past. But it's up to you what you do. It's a second chance, a clean slate. What will you do with it? Most people walk away as soon as the conversation gets awkward.
Phillip didn't have an intention of just walking away. She was right here, a childhood friend, his first crush, and he didn't want to let her go.
"Hey, Theo, maybe wanna get lunch or something sometime?" He said, his ears turning red.
Theodosia smiled. "Sounds great."
Sometimes your past comes back, a second chance at an opportunity that you missed the first time around. And most of the time, people miss their second chance as well. Someone you haven't seen in years and won't ever see again, and they just let them go.
Phillip didn't just let them go. Sometimes you get a second chance, and sometimes, it works out perfectly in the end.
