June 16th part 1
Present day
"I didn't kill her! I swear!" Marcus slams his hands on the table. The metal of his handcuffs makes a loud clang on the metal of the table. It echoes around the small interrogation room. "I wasn't even at the beach that night!"
"Then why did her father say you were? Why didn't you deny it?" The detective leans over the table. He can tell Marcus was there that night. He can see it in his face.
Marcus sighs. He knows he has to tell the truth about what happened that night. "I'm really going to regret this." He mumbles to himself.
"Regret what?" The detective asks. "Killing an innocent girl? I think any decent person would regret doing that." He tries to get Marcus to clarify his statement. He wants to know what he means.
"No. I'm going to regret telling you what I know." Marcus explains what he meant by his previous statement.
"Why would you regret telling me what you know. It'll help me find Katrina's killer. If he isn't already in this room with me." The detective is positive he has his man. He is confident that Marcus is Katrina's killer. But he wouldn't mind hearing those words come out of his mouth.
"It'll help you find her killer but it will also put me in jail." Marcus explains.
"Because you killed her. You killed Katrina Long. Say it. Say it out loud Marcus. Admit it." The detective leans on the table and gets in Marcus' face.
"I didn't kill her. I just- I saw her that night." Marcus corrects the detective.
"When?" The detective asks, sitting back down in his seat.
"The night she apparently died. June 8." Marcus states.
"I thought you said you didn't see her that night. Why did you lie? Why not tell me this the first time I brought you in?" The detective wonders.
"Because I was scared. I knew you were going to assume I killed her. I- I beat her up that night. I hurt her." Marcus tells him.
"Hurt her how? By pushing her off the ridge and drowning her?" The detective continues trying to get Marcus to confess to killing his girlfriend. He really wants to hear him say it.
"See?! I knew his would be bad for me to tell you the truth. You are blaming me for a crime I didn't even commit. Why should I tell you the truth?" Marcus scoffs.
"Just be honest with me Marcus. If you give me what I want, we can work something out. You tell me the truth and I'll work a deal with you." The detective leans back in his seat and prepares himself for the truth.
"You promise?" Marcus asks. He just wants to make sure he is going to be okay if he tells the truth.
"I promise if you tell me the truth I will try to help you out in jail if that is where you end up once you tell me this." He explains to Marcus what his promise means.
Marcus nods.
He is ready to tell the officer everything. He knows what happened to Katrina that night. He is going to tell the detective everything he needs to know.
"Okay. Our meeting spot was the beach at the top of the ridge. She came at midnight like we planned. But she didn't have her stuff with her. The plan was to spend the night under the stars and leave town at dawn." Marcus begins his story of what happened the night Katrina died.
"Okay. So she came to the beach and then what?" The detective asks. He is glad they are in an interrogation room because this is all being recorded.
"I asked why she didn't have her bags packed and then she told me she didn't want to leave anymore. She said I should go by myself." Marcus remembers that night clearly, as if he is back there right now.
"Why didn't she want to go anymore?" He asks.
Marcus shrugs.
"But then I got mad and I- I beat her up. Pretty badly. And that's why I didn't tell you before." Marcus explains. "Because if I told you that you would think I killed her."
"But you didn't kill her?" The detective asks to make sure he is understanding him right.
Marcus nods. "But I know who did. I saw it all happen."
AN: the killer will be revealed very, very soon!!!!! Who do you think it is?
