Ada paced around in her office thinking of the big brown box on her desk. It contained all the clothes Kola had gifted her throughout their entire relationship, she knew it was petty but in-depth she wanted to see him one last time.
“You can do this!" Ada hyped herself up.
She smoothened her wig and picked up the box. She walked slowly, remembering their fond memories. She strolled to the forensic department and stopped at his office door. Relief swept into her veins on realizing that he was alone and not with that Stella of a witch.
She opened the door quietly admiring Kola who was engrossed in reading a file.
“Is that food?" Kola asked sarcastically without looking up.
“Obviously not. " Ada chipped in, dropping the box on the table.
“Then what?" Kola replied.
“It's all the clothes you gifted me during my birthdays. " Ada responded.
Kola laughed, “You brought them here for what? What... do you expect me to do with it? I can't wear female clothes. "
“Then...you can sell it." Ada shrugged.
“No, I prefer giving Stella." Kola replied.
Ada was getting irritated, “What's between you and that... witch?"
“Who's a witch?" Kola stared at her.
“Stella na. " Ada lifted her shoulders.
“She's not a witch and by the way you can leave. " Kola replied.
“Why are...you sending me away from your office. Are we fighting?" Ada asked.
“Not at all. We aren't fighting, I am just confused on why you are trying to meddle into my business. " Kola spoke seriously.
“Your business abi? You came to my office to discuss about mosquitoes. Who talks to a woman about that?" Ada asked.
“Ada, please leave." Kola repeated.
“And by the way, I'm...sorry for slapping you the other day. I was just pissed and I hope you don't.... "
“What part of leave my office don't you understand, Adaobi? What...else do you want? You and I are over... forever. Stop making me catch feelings for you. It's not funny at all. " Kola said.
Ada's face lit up, “So you still...like me?"
“I never said that." Kola shook his head.
“But you just did. You don't like Stella." Ada replied.
“Obviously because she's just my colleague." Kola nearly barked at her.
“Then I don't have a competition, anymore." Ada smiled sweetly at him.
Kola gulped, “Competition keh? What are...you saying? I thought you were hitting it off with Osaze. "
“O-Oza who? We both know...how much I hate him." Ada smoothened her hair.
“T-Then stop this game of going back and forth. Stop... making me jealous and let's just... "
“Get back together." Ada completed his statement with a shy smile.
“No, let's...stop talking to each other. Clearly...you are still into me. " Kola sighed.
“So what about you? Are you not into me too?" Ada asked angrily.
“I am...but those feelings will fade over time. " Kola explained.
“W-Why do you keep doing this, Kola? Your mum is expecting grandchildren abi? Let's do it fast fast. " Ada pouted.
“Do what? I think my mother is patient enough for that and by the way... you're the one who started it. You pointed...a gun to my face. Why? You looked at me like as if I... raped you or something. You looked strange and scared... "
Ada began to breathe heavily, the word ‘rape' began to spark memories of the disgusting moments with her father when he would bark at her to suck him off for his stupid pleasures or how he would touch her immediately she got back from school.
“I have...to go." Ada breathed heavily as the air around her became thinner and thinner by the minute.
“Of course, you can leave...as usual." Kola replied icily.
Ada breathed in and out. She decided to tell him even though she was already feeling uncomfortable.
“K-Kola wait...I have to tell you something..." Ada rasped.
“You are pregnant?" Kola replied without humor.
Ada wanted to move closer to the desk but her vision was beginning to get blurry.
“N-No, I...am...I mean, I was..... "Ada stuttered, how was she going to tell Kola that she was raped by her father.
“See Ada, I don't care anymore. Everything about you is starting to...annoy me. Just leave please. I am beginning to get an headache. " Kola spoke hurriedly.
“But...."
“But what? What...do you want to say?" Kola shouted.
“A-At least...give the chance to speak." Ada yelled back after her eyes had cleared.
“D-Did you give me the same chance when you broke up with me over the phone? Ada, stop it. Just stop it. We are done...forever." Kola continued.
“Wait...we can just...." Ada tried to speak.
“Just what?" Kola mocked.
“G-Give me the chance to talk, Kola. You aren't even ready to listen." Ada barked at him.
“C-Come and force me to listen. Force me." Kola dared.
Ada was beginning to get enraged.
“W-Why are you being pompous? All b-because I'm begging you. There are better...men than you." Ada bragged.
“Then go to them. I don't give a damn ,Ada." Kola lifted his shoulders slightly.
“You don't give a damn abi? You will be the...same person to crawl back to me." Ada replied.
“Crawl to who? No way. I reject it. Maybe my mother was right. Igbo women are problematic." Kola said.
“And Yoruba men are perfect abi?" Ada argued back.
“S-Stop fighting please." A tiny voice echoed from the door.
Scrunching her face in irritation, Ada spoke, “ Who is that rat that is speaking?"
“Ada, it's me na."
Ada turned around to glance at a frowning Stella who was dressed in a black top and blue jeans.
“And so?" Ada shrugged.
“Ada, please just go." Kola begged with a sigh.
“Go where? Better hang it there." Ada replied and she turned to Stella, “You want him abi? You can... have him. He's all yours...All yours." Ada deadpanned.
“W-What's going on? Kola what is she...." Stella started but was cut off by Ada who moved towards her with quick and angry strides.
“Why are you calling him Kola? He's Mr Oseni. What the hell is wrong with you?" Ada shouted.
“Ada, please leave. That's enough." Kola said , grabbing hold of Ada's wrist.
“Get away from me. You like her abi? Go ahead. Do what your heart desires and please, don't give her those clothes." Ada pointed to the table, “Just burn them."
“Ada what is......"
“Just stop talking." Ada erupted and began to walk towards the door. Stella stood in front of her, trying to pacify her.
“Ada, calm down. Let's talk like....." Stella wasn't ready when Ada pushed her with her full strength and Stella nearly fell on the floor.
“Don't...ever tell me to calm down." Ada hissed, “Ode." she silently muttered.
Ada walked out of the office, her eyes blazing red. She stopped to look at the window and noticed Kola trying to explain what was going on to Stella. Her heart dipped realizing that she should have told him the truth instead of dragging the fight.

“Ronke!" Wale called out to Aderonke who was lost in thought after he had screamed her name thrice.
“Ehn?" Aderonke jolted back to reality and dropped her fork on the dinning table noisily.
“What...were you thinking about that got you picking at your food early in the morning?" Wale asked.
“Nothing." Aderonke shook her head violently, she had been brooding since the previous night thinking if her husband really had anything to do with her daughter.
“You are lying through your teeth." Wale gobbled up a slice of yam.
“I-It's the sales in my botique. It's not going well...not the way I planned." Aderonke lied.
“It's just patience. Everything will work out fine." Wale patted her shoulder. Aderonke wanted to cringe from his touch, ever since Sewa had confessed to her. The only thing she had felt towards her husband was pure disgust.
“Yes, it would." Aderonke threw him a fake smile.
“I'm off to work. Have a wonderful day, my love." Wale rose up and buttoned up his suit.
“Whatever." Aderonke scoffed quietly as she watched her husband leave.
She looked at her unfinished plate of boiled yam and groaned. She had lost her appetite completely.
“Sewa!"she cried out.
No answer.
“Sewa!" she shouted again.
No response.
Is Sewa out of her mind? she thought.
She was about to shout once more when Sewa ran like a mad dog to the dinning room with sweat bathing her entire body.
“Ma?" Sewa answered.
“What happened to you? Did you run from Abuja to Ibadan ni? Why are you sweating unnecessarily?" Aderonke eyes the short maid.
“Ma...I was...I mean...I was doing..."
“Just keep your explanation to yourself. Pack this plate and throw it away into the wastebin." Aderonke said.
“B-But ma, you aren't done with your food." Sewa observed the plate.
“A-And I said you should throw it away or you want to eat it?" Aderonke spoke with seriousness.
“B-But ma, you are the one that said no wastage of food and you are wasting food. Just try to eat it, ma. Do it for Bimbo, ma." Sewa begged.
Aderonke's buttons snapped.
“A-Are you out of your senses? Are you trying to educate me or what? You better carry this plate before I slap you and make you see hundred stars in ten seconds." Aderonke shouted.
“Y-Yes ma. Sorry ma. I'll carry it ma." Sewa said as she reached for the plate with trembling fingers.
“Why is your hand doing like jelly? You better don't break the plate or else I'll break you oh." Aderonke warned comically.
“Okay ma." Sewa bowed her head before leaving her presence.
Aderonke pondered on Sewa's stupidity before drifting back to the issue at hand. She looked at the different potraits on the wall that displayed she and Wale's faces. She needed to leave this toxic environment. She needed to talk to someone before she lost control over herself.
She groaned on realizing that it was only one person she could talk to about it.
That incompetent detective!
