Ada nearly smashed her phone on the window. What was that woman's problem? Why did she have to insult her personal life? Ada felt like going to the DPO to drop the case but she was the one who requested for it anyways. She scanned her office, thinking and wondering how Bimbo could be dead and the person who killed her was untraceable. She looked up to the ceiling a noticed a CCTV camera.
Why didn't she think of it before? The club where Bimbo died would have a CCTV camera. She decided to check. She picked up her keys and locked up her office. As she walked through the hallways, she could hear Kola talking to Stella from a far distance. She walked faster, when she turned to the point where she could see them clearly. Her heart broke. Kola was talking so casually with Stella as if she was his best friend. And Stella was laughing like an epileptic soul.
She thought of something and she braced herself. She walked towards them and cleared her throat.
"Kola, I want to speak to you, now. " Ada stated.
Kola sighed and folded his arms, "Ada, we have discussed it already. I don't have time for that. "
"I'm speaking to you because I need to follow me to a crime scene." Ada replied him.
Kola looked at Stella before turning to look at Ada, "Why me?"
"Because I'm your boss here and I can decide who follows me to a crime scene. " Ada responded with a smile.
"W-What has gotten into you, Ada? Why are you.... "
Stella interupted, "Can I come along?"
"It's only for experts only." Ada gritted her teeth.
"Oh, I have to go now." Stella mentioned and she walked away with a glum face.
"I told you already that I'm done with you, what is your problem, Ada?" Kola questioned.
Ada gulped, "I'm also done...with you as well. I just need you to follow me to check a crime scene. Is that a problem for you?"
"Ada, what's your game? What are you planning? It won't work on me. " Kola shook his head.
"Didn't you hear me the first time? I said I'm done...with you. I don't love you anymore and I have clearly...moved on. " Ada yelled as she fought the tears trying to break free from her eyes.
"Ada, you don't have to shout. I can hear you." Kola dipped his hands into his trousers.
"Good, That's my car key. You're driving." Ada replied hurriedly, throwing her key at his face.
*****
"What kind of crime scene are we going to?" Kola asked, gripping the steering wheel tighter. The traffic was horrible and everywhere was on stand still.
"I don't need to tell you." Ada replied, checking through her Whatsapp messages.
Kola suddenly lifted his neck, spying her phone and he chuckled, "When did you start talking to Osaze?"
"And why are you spying on my messages?" Ada glared at him. Osaze was one of the police detectives who was formerly interested in Ada but lost interest when Ada publicly disgraced him.
"I'm just checking the person who my ex girlfriend is trying to hook up with. And from what I see, he's nowhere near my standard. I didn't know you liked your men, potbellied and ugly." Kola laughed.
"And I also didn't know that you liked your females, ugly and thin." Ada smiled sarcastically at him.
"Stella isn't ugly." Kola countered.
"Osaze isn't ugly either." Ada rotated her neck.
The tension in the car was too much for Ada to bear so she turned her attention to the window facing her. The traffic suddenly subsided and cars were racing against each other again. Ada was happy that she didn't have to converse with him anymore. She deliberately texted Osaze to check Kola's reaction. She knew he would check. She was so sure of it. She wondered why Kola couldn't see that it was clear that he still loved her.
Then why was he driving her car with her in it?
Kola's phone buzzed and he picked it up.
"Hello Stella."
Ada mashed her lips together. Why couldn't that witch just stop calling him? Would it kill her to stop the unnecessary phone calls? Anger rippled through her skin and she immediately snatched Kola's phone from his ear and she cut the call.
"What did you just do?"
"According to the law, idiot, you aren't supposed to receive calls while driving." Ada explained firmly
"But..."
"No buts, you should know that. Why are you behaving like a fool? Don't worry, I'll keep your phone for you." Ada clutched his phone and hers in both hands.
Kola sighed heavily, not taking his eyes off the road.
"I...know that you...are still hurting and..you are angry at me but please stop insulting me and treating me like trash." Kola muttered.
"You aren't like trash." Ada shrugged.
"Thank you." Kola replied.
"You are trash, what am I saying? You are more like a dustbin. You are like Pluto. You don't exist to me and I won't stop insulting you because you are a damn fool." Ada screamed. She was mad that he couldn't apologize and let them settle their differences. Instead, he was giving her motivational rubbish.
Kola swerved the car instantly and he parked at the side of the road.
"What's the meaning of this? Is this why you wanted me to drive so you can insult me?" Kola turned to look at her.
"Sorry for the mean, awful and accurate things I've said." Ada laughed lightly.
"Ada, it's not funny. It's not funny at all. You have moved on and so have I. Why can't you stop this petty attitude and concentrate on your job huh?" Kola replied.
Ada's mouth hanged open. She couldn't believe that he could lie so well.
"Kola, start driving. It's 6pm." she checked the time.
"Ada, stop ignoring...."
"Let's focus on our work and please stop talking." Ada clenched her fists.
"Okay."
And that was the last word they both to each other in the car during the drive.
*******
Kola parked the car at where Ada had pointed with her fingers to, since she refused to talk to him.
"What are we doing at a club? you know I hate clubs." Kola spoke.
"I don't care about what you hate or love. I need to check a CCTV camera in this club." Ada replied, searching for her ID card.
"I thought you wanted me to check something at a crime scene, you never said anything about a CCTV camera." Kola shook his head.
"Maybe you weren't listening." Ada shrugged.
She raised her body from her seat and inched closer to Kola, her breasts directly facing his eyes. Kola jerked backwards.
"A-Ada I warned you. Stop doing....."
"Stop moving, you are sitting on my ID card." Ada screamed at him and she retrieved her ID card when Kola stood up slightly.
"Oh." Kola replied.
"Did you think...I was going to seduce you again?" Ada adjusted her top.
"Absolutely not..why would I think dirty thoughts?" Kola laughed.
Ada stepped out of the car and looked at him with a smirk, "Then why are you hard down there?"
Ada watched as Kola's face changed, he flew out of the car instantly, jogging in a spot to release the tension down there but it didn't. It grew even bigger when Ada started walking, jiggling her backside at him.
*****
Ada and Kola stepped into the security's main office. The room was stuffy, smelly and digusting. Ada scrunched her nose in irritation. A fat pot bellied man dressed in a blue uniform greeted them.
"Good evening, who are you and what are you doing here? The club is downstairs oh." The man announced.
"We are the police and we need to ask you some questions." Ada lifted her ID card.
"Okay, what are your questions?" The man stood up from his chair.
"Are there CCTV cameras in the club?" Ada asked.
"Yes, you..want to check them?" The man continued.
"Yes." Kola replied.
"But you see, The CCTV cameras aren't working. You should know that by now." The man scratched his bald head.
"Know what?" Ada folded her arms.
"This is Nigeria na. There's no light, the generator can not take all the cameras and even sef, there's no food. I haven't eaten since morning and I don't know when my next meal is coming." The man explained.
"Okay, let me check the footage then." Ada sighed.
"But I just told you that it's not working." The man countered.
"But let me check." Ada insisted.
"I have already...."
Tired of the exchange of words, Kola yelled, "Alaye, let her check it? What's your problem gan? We are talking to you smoothly, you are doing coconut head."
"Then I'll have no option but to send you out of here." The man commanded.
Kola hissed and shoved the security man away on the floor.
"You don't have to be rough, Kola." Ada smiled, walking over to the desktop.
She sat down and looked at the security man on the floor, " Would you help us now?'
"Y-yes I will." The man nodded and immediately sprang up on his feet. He guided Ada by helping her get the footage.
"I thought you said the cameras weren't working so how did you get the footage?" Ada asked.
"Wait, ma. The footage isn't clear enough. You won't be able to see anything." he replied.
Ada groaned, "Please search for this year's Valentine's day footage."
"Okay ma." The man replied.
A few minutes of clicking keys occured and the man chanted, "I have seen it, ma."
"Thank you," Ada smiled at him.
But the man was still beside her, so dangerously close. It was like he was trying to feel her up. Ada was about to speak up but stopped when Kola dragged the security man backwards and Kola then stood beside Ada.
Ada looked at him.
"What?" Kola met her gaze.
"Nothing." Ada responded.
Ada checked the footage. It was nine hours long. How was she going to watch it?
Thirty minutes flew and Ada and Kola were still looking at the desktop.
"What are you looking for?" Kola asked.
"Something." Ada replied.
"Why can't you just...." Kola began
"Shush!" Ada interupted him as she found something interesting.
"Ada, just...."
"I said shush na!" Ada glared at Kola.
"I'm serious, Ada. Just tell me what's going on?" Kola responded hurriedly.
Ada took a picture of the footage she had paused with her phone. It was showing the club from four different angles.
She grinned at the footage. Though it wasn't so clear but she could see the outline of Sade, Bola, Mercy and well Bimbo entering the club.
They all lied. She knew it.
"Ada, what are you looking at? Tell me what..."
Ada silenced him by stroking his crotch through his trousers with her right hand. She knew the security man couldn't see what she was doing and also Kola didn't do anything. He just stopped talking.
Ada looked closer, she saw someone very familiar. She nearly dipped her head into her phone. The sheer realization had Ada gaping in shock. She removed the hand that was stroking Kola and she turned to the security man.
"Thank you so much for your help." Ada said and she walked out of the office without looking at Kola who was following right behind her.
********
"What the hell were you doing, Ada? I thought you said it was never going to happen?" Kola fumed when they reached the car.
"I was just trying to silence you. You were talking too much and I was getting distracted." Ada retorted.
"Is that why you touched me down there?" Kola asked.
"You didn't complain." Ada shrugged.
"Because I didn't want to get angry there." Kola replied.
"Or maybe because you enjoyed it." Ada chuckled.
"Ada, stop it, stop this nonsense now! You took me away from the police station to a club, you went there looking for some footage. I asked you about it and you kept shutting me up. You touched me intentionally. I know you didn't bring me here to check anything, you brought...me here so that I can spend time with you. You took my phone away from me because you were jealous. You texted Osaze in my presence to get me... jealous." Kola banged the car.
Ada felt like breaking down because he was saying the bitter truth.
"I don't...know what you are talking about..., let's go back to the station." Ada replied, looking at him.
"I'm not going... anywhere with you." Kola threw Ada back her keys.
"Then...where are you going?" Ada said, dreading his reply.
"Far, Far, away...from you." Kola replied with a frown, walking away from her and hailing for a cab.
Ada leaned against the car and bit her bottom lip. She watched Kola's retreating figure and she was starting to believe that he might have gotten over her.
Next update is on Wednesday.
