On The Ice
So, something you may or may not know about me is that I love figure skating. I love watching competitions on TV / live when they come to my city, and I get so excited when the Winter Olympics happen because I am always so impressed watching the programs from all over the world.
If you don't know figure skating, competitions consist of two different routines or "programs". The first is the short program, which lasts for a maximum of 2:50, and the second is the free skate, which lasts for 4:30. Most high-caliber skaters also put together an exhibition piece, which is often performed at a competition's exhibition, for lack of a better term, if they make the podium. Otherwise, if they do a show like Stars on Ice, they often perform their exhibition piece there (and if Stars on Ice comes near you, go. It's freaking amazing).
Anyway, one of my favorite skaters is Jason Brown because he has so much energy and always seems to love what he does whenever he skates. This year, he selected The Room Where It Happens from Hamilton as his short program and Waving Through a Window from Dear Evan Hansen as his exhibition piece.
The video of Room Where It Happens is freaking fantastic. I'm not the biggest fan of the music cut, since it seemed kinda choppy, but the skating speaks for itself. This guy might bring this to the Olympics (he's been there before, but he might go again). You guys really should watch it. With this and his free skate program, he got the silver medal at Skate Canada, and deservedly so.
I also found a video of Waving Through a Window, which was just as great, if not better. They did mistype the show name at the bottom of the screen and said Dear Evan Handsome instead of Hansen. I mean, Ben Platt is good-looking, but it was very amusing to me. Anyway, you should watch this too if you have time. Enjoy!
I just really love figure skating, guys, and when it combines with my love of Broadway, I can't help but smile.
