Chapter 1
I groaned as my alarm clock blared in my ear. I opened my eyes looking at the clock, It's 6:15. Growling in annoyance I grabbed electronic device and threw it at the wall breaking it.
"Well....there goes another one....," I mumbled softly to myself as you sat up. Being quiet in the morning was just one of my habits. The room was dark and the only light that was in the room entered through the curtains covering the window. Shrugging the blanket off, I quickly covered myself up again, it was freezing cold ever since the heater broke.
I should probably get that fixed. I snuggled closer to my blanket and stood up, but as soon as my feet touched the floor I tensed up and flopped back down. Fuck it was cold, maybe I should get carpeting for my floors to.
"Why does it have to be so cold?" I groaned out before hearing a voice from somewhere in the darkness. "Maybe if you would get the heater fixed you wouldn't be in this situation ," I rolled my eyes and looked at the necklace on your nightstand. "Oh really?" you asked sarcastically, "I would have never known." You heard chuckling and you smiled slightly. "I'm gonna go get ready now," you walked over to your dresser and got out a pair of pants and a batman T-Shirt. You walked into the bathroom and closed the door turning the light on. You looked in the mirror, your eyes looked almost lifeless, like the happiness that were once in them had been sucked out.
You laughed softly looking at yourself in the mirror, seeing that you looked like a guy. You checked yourself in the mirror one last time before walking back into your room. "It took you long enough (Y/N)," The voice said again, you looked at your necklace seeing that the light from the window was now shining on it making it look like is was glowing. You smiled walking over and putting it on. You made your way out of your room and into the living room. It was quiet, and dark. You lived alone in this apartment. Well, you lived with the spirit inside your necklace. Her name's Shadow.
You were going to live with your grandmother when you moved to Japan but she's in the hospital. She became very ill not to long after you came to Japan. Your parents had died in a car crash in the U.S, so you were sent here to live with your grandmother. But as you can see that didn't go as planned. You would go see her as much as you could but that wasn't very often, with work in the way and now with you starting high school. That time would just keep getting shorter and shorter. You smiled sadly at the memory of you going to see her and the look on her face when she would see you. She would always be so happy, it made you happy as well. "Come on Ann, you're going to be late," Shadow said through the mind link you two shared.
"Oh right....sorry," you put your shoes ad jacket on making sure that you grab your keys, phone, headphones, and bag. All that was in your bag for right now was drawing paper and pencils, might have to get a few more things. You walked out making sure that you locked the door and you walked down the hallway. You put your headphones around your neck and plugged them into your phone. It was quiet in the building which was nice but you weren't used to it. But you weren't complaining, it was nice. You made your footsteps silent as you were walking. You reached the end of the hall to the elevator, you pushed that button that had the down arrow and waited. After a little the elevator opened and you walked in pushing another button. You were waiting for the doors to close when you saw a guy running down the hall towards you.
"Wait!" he yelled, probably waking a few people up. The doors started closing so you put your hand on the door to stop it from closing. He ran in and put his hands on his knees hunched over trying to catch his breath.
Once he did, he looked up at you and grinned,"Thanks for holding the door open." He had a Brooklyn accent and you nodded studying him. "No problem," you replied. He had blond hair and brown eyes, you were pretty sure he was taller than you. He stood up straight and looked down at you.'Yep,' you thought to yourself,'he's taker.' You heard chuckling again from Shadow and you adjusted your bag on your shoulder and looked forward. You felt a arm go around your shoulder and someone lean on you.
"So what are you doing up so early in the morning?" He asked you, staring at you with that grin. "I'm going to school," you answered calmly and shrugged his arm off your shoulder.
"Really?" He asked sounding surprised "What school do ya go to?"
"Domino High," you answered, "It's my first day."
His grin returned but it was slightly different, almost like a smirk. He put his arm back around your shoulder, "That's where i'm going to."
You glanced at him,"Is that so?"
He nodded, "So, what's your name anyway?" You hesitated for a moment, "It's Ann, Ann Smith."
He chuckled,"That's a pretty name."
You rolled your eyes, "And what's yours?"
"The name's Joey, Joey Wheeler!" He said with that grin never leaving his face.
You smiled and shrugged his arm off again and held your hand out to him. "Well it's nice to meet you Joey Wheeler." He grabbed your hand shaking it, "and it's nice to meet ya to Ann Smith."
You smiled, maybe today wasn't going to be as bad as you thought it was.
