Prologue
I stood here. Wondering. Waiting.
I had been standing for 20 minutes, just staring at my mailbox.
I was waiting for my letter, if you must know. I had written to this prestigious prep school that's actually pretty close to our little complex. My mom had helped me register, but I was still standing, waiting for my letter. Wondering if it would ever come.
At that moment, a mail van pulled up and rolled to a halt. I unfroze to look at it as a young man -probably 17 or so - stepped out, he was wearing a blue polo shirt, with blue pants, brown shoes, and a blue cap over some uneven black hair. His skin was so pale it was almost a light grey. His eyes were so dark and empty, as if a bottomless hole if you looked in.
"Mail for-" He pauses to read the letter. His voice is monotone, like he would rather be doing anything else than being here. Luckily, he was here for a good reason. "-Emma Frost?"
"Oh, hi. That's me!" I rushed closer to him, my excitement dousing me like water.
"Okay. Here you go." He handed me the mail. I looked up at him. His eyes were really dark and empty. I felt like I was trapped in a dark box just looking at them.
"I like you eyes." I blurted. I covered my mouth. Why did I say that? They were horrible. Dark. Enclosing. Like a horror movie in itself. His expression faltered to surprise.
He chuckled, almost darkly, and put his hands in his pockets. "Thanks." He looked at his watch. "Wow, I'm way off track. I still have 5 more houses to go," he looked at me. "Well, I best be going."
I beamed before waving at him as he started the engine of the van. "Bye!"
I looked back at the letter. I totally forgot! I tore it open with my teeth in pure hyperactivity. Inside was a folded-in-two piece of baby blue paper. I almost began reading it right there and then until I remembered my mom's equal excitement. I couldn't leave her hanging!
I ran inside the building and burst into our room to see Mom cooking again. I told her about the letter, and she was mad excited. "This is it, Em! You could be getting into FairyTale High this year! Quick, open it, I can't hold it!"
I read it out loud,
Dear Emma Arendelle Frost,
At FairyTale, we expect major commitment in entering our prestigious school for the gifted. We take all Disney characters, and you are an exceptional young woman. With your inhumane talents and excellent grades throughout your other schools, I see you an excellent candidate to participate in our scholarly activities.
Congratulations on being an exceeding student here. I wish the best for your academics.
Signed,
Walt Disney
My eyes welled up in tears. My mom had the same reaction as she hugged me tightly.
"Oh, my baby is going to FairyTale! I'm so proud!"
"I can't believe it, Mom, I did it. I really made it. Wow, I have to go pack!" I wiped my tears and ran upstairs to pack my bags.
This was going to be the best school year ever! I couldn't want to make so many new friends! And even get a boyfriend!
