The First Snow
I cover my head. It's so cold and it's only Wednesday, so I can't play in the snow. Wait. I jump to my window. A thin layer of snow rested on top of my front yard. Snow! I throw on my coat and jeans and race down the stairs.
"Where do you think you're going young lady?"
I cringe. "Outside?"
"Nope. Sit down and eat your breakfast. I made waffles and you are going to eat all of them."
"Moooom!"
A horn honks outside.
"Alex!"
My mom laughs. "Saved by Alex. Go. I'll eat your waffles."
"Thanks Mom."
I grab my school bag and walk out the door into the fresh fallen snow. It crunches beneath my sneakers. I see Alex in his pickup truck.
"Come on sugar butt. We're going to be late."
I jump into the passenger seat. I prop my feet up on the dashboard.
"So sugar butt, what's got you in a good mood."
"It snowed!"
"Yep it did. Soo, about my party this weekend..."
Knowing what he was going to ask, I say,"Did you finish your essay for English class?"
"Umm.. Yeah I did. Soo, about my party.."
"Squirrel!"
He laughs and tousles my hair.
"Stoooop! Aleeex!"
He laughs and pulls into the school.
"Have a good day sugar butt." He winks at me.
I blush. "Thanks..umm Alex?"
I twirl my hair. "I've been thinking.."
"Yeah?"
The bell rings. "Umm..never mind."
I don't know what I was thinking. I walk into class. A new boy sits in the empty seat next to mine. He has such light blond hair that it looks almost white. I slide into my seat.
"Hi."
He turns to look at me. His eyes are icy blue and his skin is pale.
"Hello. I'm Jack, Jack Overland Reed."
"Very formal, well, hello Jack Overland Reed to Crimsonville High."
He smirks.
The teacher walks in and begins her speech about how to treat new students. Jack turns to me and rolls his eyes. I stifle I laugh. This guy is going to make things a whole lot better.
