We spend all winter together. He comes over for Christmas even. He gives me a cute white lab puppy. I give him a locket with a picture of us. His kiss let me know that he liked it. Alex and I grew close again, so close that if not for Jack, I might fall in love again! But, I could never not love Jack.
One day, the three of us, and my dog, all sat on my front lawn, basking in the warm sun. Then, Jack stood up.
"It's getting quite warm,"he says. I know what that means.
"No, Jack another week! It will get cold again!" I yell.
Jack just shakes his head soberly. I jump up and hug him.
"I'll miss you," I whisper in his ear.
"I'll never truly leave. I'll be back again, but you've got to move on. I'm immortal, you're human, it'll never work."
Then, he turns to Alex. "Do for her what I could never."
Alex nods. Then, Jack starts walking, walking to the woods.

10 years later, First day of winter

I sit on my rocking chair, holding my sleeping baby boy. Alex is sleeping on the sofa because he just shoveled our snowy front driveway. On the first day of winter, every year, I wait for him. He appears outside my window and opens it. I can't wait to see him.
Then, I see him appear. He opens the window. He walks up and gives me a kiss on the cheek. He looks down at the baby.
"What's his name?" he asks.
"Jack, his name is Jack," I whisper.
