Revealed Pt. 2
The class and teachers had finally made themselves comfy as Daisuke proceeded to set up the device that would inevitably end his relationship with his niece. Masami, herself, had curled up in her seat, snuggled in a large, fluffy blanket that seemed to engulf her. One hand hung out, holding a rather large cup of coffee. If she was going to be staying awake for a while, she'd need as much caffeine as possible. She'd be grateful if at least her thoughts were coherent.
She had been trying to process all the possible reasons for Daisuke's and Ayako's actions but to no avail. All she could figure out was that they were going to be watching something on the large screen in front of them. What they were going to watch was a complete mystery, though.
Masami honestly wasn't sure how to feel about all of this. She was a bit irked, sure. She could have been using this time to sleep if her aunt and uncle hadn't interrupted. But, she was also curious. Her aunt and uncle spent a majority of their time in other dimensions. It was rare for them to visit her much less kidnap her and an entire class along with her teachers. It was just… strange.
“Alright!” Everybody's heads snapped towards Daisuke's direction as he gave a clap of his hands with a large grin. The grin only faltered ever so slightly upon noticing that the only seat next to Masami had been taken. Taken by none other than Todoroki Shouto. The closeness of the two made him pout. He had wanted to sit next to Masami. Oh well, at least he still had Ayako. Not that she was likely to pay him any attention… “Everything's ready, so just sit back, relax, and wait for the movie to begin!”
And with that, a video began to roll on the screen. However, the video definitely wasn't what they were expecting. And now, poor little Masami was completely frozen as she stared at the screen in shock, one thought rolling through her mind.
Shit.
A hooded figure let out a soft sigh as she swung her legs back and forth from atop the building she was sitting. Silvery wisps of white hair flew out from her hood as the wind blew loudly at the high spot. At the present moment, she was watching Detective Naomasa Tsukauchi place his hands on his knees, panting in exhaustion as he stood in the alleyway below.
“Isn't that Shirokage?!” Uraraka gasped along with many others. Many of them recognized the silvery haired female from the USJ incident. Others hadn't even caught a glimpse of her, but the girl's outfit and appearance was a dead give away.
“Why are we watching her?” Sero asked. He, personally, didn't think too poorly of the vigilante. She had helped save their asses at one point after all. “She's not, you know, going to cause any trouble, is she?”
“Well, no…” Daisuke hesitated, glancing towards Masami who was staring at him with wide eyes and slight betrayal. Was this punishment or something? She understood why she would be punished and all, but it didn't exactly feel nice. And why exactly did he sound so damn hesitant? Was she going to cause trouble? “Not exactly the way you may think…”
“What the hell's that shit supposed to mean?” You can all guess who said that.
“Just watch.”
Naomasa and almost the rest of the police force had been chasing after the female all night. They had been planning this for months. And yet, like always, she seemed to find a way to escape. The dark, urban setting had been to her advantage after all. She rarely ever showed herself in the daylight, and could land surprise attacks with ease. She was known as the number one vigilante for a reason.
"Apologies, Detective," She spoke with a light, airy, pleasant tone as she commented on the man's exhausted state. Surprised at the sudden and unexpected commentary, Naomasa could only look as he finally noticed her in all her mysterious glory. He had been under the impression that she had already disappeared into the shadows of the night by this point. "I didn't realize this little chase would last for so long. I should start giving you guys more credit! I never would have imagined that you guys would have come so close to actually catching me."
“Unpleasant as always,” Aizawa grumbled from the back of the room where he was sitting with the rest of the teachers. He never had been a particular fan of Shirokage's.
“Ah, that's right!” Mic exclaimed from beside him as everybody listened in. “Don’t you sometimes help out the police with chasing after Shirokage?!”
“Unfortunately…” He had actually been on multiple operations to catch the vigilante. Of course, they all failed, and that only served to increase his annoyance with the woman. Sure, he appreciated her helping him and his students at the USJ, but he still saw her as just your everyday villain. She may not be hurting anybody, but she was still a criminal.
In all actuality, though, they were nowhere close to catching her.
Naomasa already knew that.
"And yet," The detective sighed, slouching a bit as he made an attempt to calm his fast heart rate. "You always manage to slip away. You truly are an enigma, Shirokage. In both your strength and your thought processes You really are..."
Detective Naomasa had been dealing with the case of the newly dubbed Shirokage for almost three years, and he still knew next to nothing about her. She was an expert at covering her tracks, and she never let slip any information that might endanger her true identity. She was a mystery in every way possible.
"Sorry about that," Shirokage once again apologized, giving a light, unnoticeable smile that was hidden by a full face gas mask. She was never seen without it, so the only distinguishable features she had were her silvery white hair, her thin figure, and bright, icy blue eyes that were just barely discernable through the mask. Her lithe movements seemed almost dangerous as she dropped from the building and landed in a quiet crouch in front of the tired detective. "But I like to think that I'm entitled to my secrets."
And secrets she had.
She had more information in her head on villains and heroes than even the government. She had information on fellow vigilantes and even hopeful heroes that attend schools such as U.A. However, it's not as though she kept all of her information a secret. She would often drop off files at the police station containing information on different villains and their activities. So, while she kept the mystery surrounding herself, she had no problem unraveling the mysteries of others and exposing them to the world.
“Wait, doesn't that mean that she likely has all kinds of information on us?” Jiro asked. She was sure that Shirokage didn’t really mean any harm towards them. But still, it was disconcerting.
“Hmph, it's not like the bitch has anything over us,” Bakugo scoffed. “She's too much of a damn coward to try and fight heroes anyways.”
Normally, Masami wouldn't care too much about people insulting Shirokage. In fact, she insulted Shirokage mentally almost all the time. But the way Bakugo said that kind of pissed her off.
"As true as that may be," Speaking of truth, Naomasa couldn't deny that Shirokage was probably one of the most honest criminals, or vigilante as she liked to point out, that he knew. He had never once heard her tell a lie in his presence. And he was the best person to confirm that given his quirk. "It still doesn't make it easy to understand why you chose to become a vigilante over a hero. Unlike other vigilantes, you follow the same rules as heroes, and you refuse to hurt those that try to arrest you. In fact, you barely even harm the villains you capture."
“Sensei?” Yaoyorozu grabbed the teachers attention with an inquisitive look. “What exactly does he mean by being ‘the best person to confirm’ her words being the truth through his quirk? Does he have a quirk that can tell whether or not somebody is lying or something?”
“That's exactly right!” Nezu answered for the girl, keeping his cheery smile on despite the internal frown he had. He knew only what the police knew about Shirokage, maybe a little bit more. He wasn't entirely sure, though, so he had decided against speaking his thoughts. What he did know, however, is the fact that Shirokage never lied was almost disturbing. Especially since the information she handed out to them wasn't always the best news. “Detective Naomasa has a quirk that allows him to tell when somebody is lying to him. It makes him an invaluable member of the police.”
"Well," Shirokage sighed, leaning against one of the brick walls as she closed her eyes. She was honestly a bit tired herself. Not that she'd ever admit it. She didn't have the luxury to show any weakness. "As ironic as it is, I am against violence. As for why I don't become a hero... I don't deserve that title. I never have, and I never will..."
Masami frowned. She remembered this. She had been working for almost three days straight, so her filter was a bit out of wack. It was a miracle in and of itself that she didn't accidentally reveal her identity with how tired she had been. She had almost been as tired as she is now.
And that's saying something.
She would deny this as well, but she had always dreamed of being a hero. And yet, it was an aspiration that just seemed unachievable for her. She knew that she'd never be able to live with herself if she became a hero with the secrets she kept. Of course, Naomasa knew nothing of her reasoning and could only frown at her response. He could tell that she truly believed in her words. It raised all the more questions that he wasn't sure he even wanted to know.
“Man, she's a lot more depressing than I thought!” Kirishima commented. “She was pretty serious at the USJ, but she still seemed a bit more cheerful.”
The others nodded a bit in agreement. At the USJ, she managed to throw in a joke almost every chance she got, so this was a side of her that they'd never seen.
“Shirokage, from what we know, is quite adept with façades,” Nezu replied once more for the students. The other teachers were a bit too focused on the screen. “It's one of the many reasons we've yet to discover her identity.”
That and the fact that she's pretty decent at staying in the shadows, away from prying eyes.
"That matter aside," Naomasa sweat dropped as he heard the sudden shift in Shirokage's tone of voice. It sounded mischievous, and he could already tell what was coming. It was inevitable. He didn't even need to see her voice to be able to tell that she was smirking. "You look a little tired. Don't tell me you're starting to get a bit old?"
Naomasa wasn't even offended. At this point in time, he had grown accustomed to her teasing. She often started this routine whenever she wanted to change the subject. The detective could only assume that it was one of her methods of coping. A method of coping as well as a way of keeping her secrets secret. So, at this point, all Naomasa could do was sigh.
"I wish I could say the same to you." It was true. Shirokage most definitely seemed young. If Naomasa had to guess, he would say the vigilante was only in her twenties. She definitely had the figure and spunk of someone that young.
“Man, wouldn't it be crazy if Shirokage was the same age as us?!” Kaminari laughed at the very idea, a few of the others smiling along with him.
“Yeah, right,” Jiro rolled her eyes in exasperation at the blonde male. “There's no way that Shirokage is our age.”
“Yeah,” Hagakure agreed. “That would mean she was only twelve when she first started!”
Murmurs of agreement circled around the room. Midoriya was already muttering out possible theories as he had been for the majority of the time they had been there. Mineta and Aoyama were trying not to freak out about the idea of a vigilante being the same age as them. After all, that meant there was a greater possibility of her knowing them personally. Others just stayed silent, trying to take everything in.
Masami just sweat dropped at the irony.
"Well," Shirokage let out a small chuckle at the man's response. "I'm an entirely different story."
Naomasa didn't even know the full extent of that truth.
Though, he wasn't particularly surprised or frightened when he was enveloped in white flames. Carefully, Shirokage kicked off the wall and began heading in his direction. Anybody looking from the outside may think that Shirokage's fire would be harming Naomasa, but it was quite the opposite. The warm, white fire sent a feeling of relief down the man's spine. It was one of the most comforting things he had felt all day. And, like everything else, this had also become a routine.
She always made sure to heal those on the police force that came after her.
“Why would she heal those who are trying to catch her?” Uraraka asked, not quite understanding. None of them really understood, though. Shirokage was the complete opposite of being understandable, after all. Even the teachers weren't sure how to answer the girl's question.
So, the video continued with silence leaving the question hanging in the air.
And, if those on the police force were being honest, Shirokage made it very hard for them to even want to catch her. They couldn't deny that Shirokage's healing made them feel more relaxed than any other time. And with their job working with the police, they were almost strangers to relaxation.
"Consider this an apology for not allowing you to catch me." She always said that too. She was always apologizing.
And the police force found that a bit sad.
“Alexa, play Despacito,” A few people snorted at Ashido's comment.
If she had chosen to become a hero, they were sure that they would have loved working with her. They didn't even mind her spunk and minor teasing. Though, they could probably do without her puns.
It was a shame that they were in charge of arresting her.
And with that, the screen turned black, signalling the end and leaving the occupants of the room to stare in slight confusion.
“Now, before any of you start asking questions about why I'm showing you this, listen up,” Daisuke started as he noticed that many people in the room were about to speak up. “Shirokage is one of the main paradoxes I spoke of. These videos won't entirely revolve around her, so to say. But, she will show up a great deal. You'll understand more later on.”
“How much later on?”
“You'll see.”
