Chapter 63: A New Era

CLATTONIA

"I'm sorry," I pause, waving one of my hands around, "did you say you were Bennett Cessair?"

"Uh, yeah," Bennett nods, rubbing the back of his neck, "why?"

"Clattonia," Reece says, locking eyes with me and I look at him in a confused manner before looking back at Bennett.

"Because my last name is Cessair," I say and Bennett's eyes widen.

"Guys!" Juniper gains our attention as she hurries up to us with my father trailing behind her, "we need to go outside. Labyrinth and the others captured Loralai and deterred the other White Rabbit members, but now a bunch of news crews showed up and want to know what's going on! Ink and Indigo just came down a few minutes ago and told me before they hurried back outside."

The group of us hurry outside to find all of the others safe and I breathe out a sigh of relief as Caliber turns and waves to me, smiling from beside Labyrinth, who is currently dealing with a reporter. On the other side of Caliber, Kazuki watches her with a warm expression before reaching for her hand and lacing their fingers together, making me raise a brow at the sight, but I'm happy nonetheless.

"I told you, I'm not answering any more questions," Labyrinth grumbles and stands there with her arms crossed as Reece, Essence, Jace, and I approach her, the others trailing behind us.

"Oh, miss! Miss!" The female reporter's blue eyes widen and she swooshes her dark umber ponytail around, adjusting her dark framed glasses and smiling as she holds out her mic towards me, her notepad clutched in her other hand with her light pink manicured fingers, "can you tell me about the events that transpired here today? The world is dying to know."

I look at the reporter for a few seconds before taking her mic and briefly glancing at the news crews beside her that are filming as multiple camera flashes go off.

"My name is Clattonia Cessair," I say, my gaze firmly meeting those in the crowd, "and I am a Supernatural. I'm not ashamed to admit that here in front of the world. I am not scared to admit that either. I stand here before you today with many of the people I love. Up front with me are Reece Maverick, Jace Athens, and Essence Kaori. I have fought to survive my entire life, struggling to get by from a young age. However, I made many, many friends along the way who went through their own struggles. I have also lost many that I loved due to circumstances that should not have had to happen. I stand before you here today to tell you all that this is the beginning of a new era. Nobody should be persecuted simply because of who they are, what they are, what they believe, who they love, where they come from, or at all as long as they are not harming anyone else. We have as much rights as anyone else does and I'm here to tell you that today. We want peace between humans and Supernatural. Does that mean all Supernatural agree with our cause? No, it doesn't. However, there will always be evils in the world-- they just come in different forms. Not all humans are saints either, which is why the justice system was created in the first place. However, there are many, many great human beings out there, just as there are many amazing Supernatural who just want to live their lives without the fear of being mercilessly slandered or killed or losing their loved ones. I am asking you to open your hearts and learn to accept us into society, because there honestly isn't much of a difference between us when it comes down to us. We all have hearts. We all have souls. We all have morals. We all have emotions, dreams, and aspirations."

"We're not asking you to drop everything and invite us into your homes and let us take over your society," Reece starts, the crews now focusing their attention on him, "we're simply asking to live in peace with human beings. What happened here today is a testament to that. We did not want to be violent in order to get where we did, but we refused to stand there and be beaten down silently. So, we fought back. However, we did not ruthlessly murder innocent people. You can see that if you notice how many of the workers here are completely fine, minus a few scratches and minor injuries. However, there were some who were entirely not innocent, and so they were dealt with accordingly in the only ways we could. We tried everything we could to protect everyone. I believe that shows that all we truly want is to live in harmony."

"White Rabbit is not what it seems," Jace begins, the crews turning to him now, "and it never was. My name is Jace Athens, as many of you already know, and my father was a leader of White Rabbit here in Shibuya. And I am now a Supernatural. Whenever I was younger, I was told that Supernatural were bad and only caused destruction. I was told that my mother was murdered by a Supernatural, but in fact, my own mother was murdered by none other than a White Rabbit member. However, before I even knew that, something deep down inside of me just couldn't believe that all Supernatural were bad. How can you group everyone in a population together simply because of a few individuals? The answer is that you can't. You just can't. White Rabbit was supposed to be an organization that helped those who were being threatened by Supernatural or were in danger, and that's what they projected themselves to be. However, I can firmly tell you that they weren't. White Rabbit attacked anyone who was a Supernatural being simply for being Supernatural, even if they weren't doing anything wrong. Not all members of the organization knew this, so they're not all at fault when it comes down to it. Some knew and despised it, but couldn't get out for multiple reasons. Others knew and said or did nothing. Others knew and simply didn't care. Others knew and even went along with it, helping as much as they possibly could. From this day forwards, White Rabbit will be no more. No more relentlessly hunting down Supernatural simply for what they are. No more persecution. No more fear. No more hiding."

"Hi, um," Essence waves shyly and takes the mic, "I'm Essence. We'd be happy to help protect the city against any threats, whether Supernatural or human, considering White Rabbit is now destroyed. But, we'd do it the right way. No attacking the innocent. We only want what's best for everyone. As for Daylen Athens, we'll be transporting him to Tokyo to be dealt with by Rai Adley and her department. We'll also be transporting anyone else that needs transported there, such as Genna Bastille and a dangerous Supernatural. And we'll be providing medical care for anyone who was injured that was an innocent worker, police officer, or bystander."

"We'd appreciate it if the public would show us and all Supernatural full support," Reece says and Essence passes him the mic, "as for now, we'll be handling any affairs that we need to."

Reece goes to hand the reporter back her mic, but she shakes her head and holds out her notepad.

"Excuse me, Reece," the reporter starts, "but how can we reach you if someone needs to contact any of you?"

"You'll find us," Reece smiles slyly, handing her back the mic, "trust me."

And with that, Reece takes Essence's hand, lacing their fingers together as the two of them walk away and Jace and I follow.

Several hours later, Reece, Essence, Jace, Bennett, my mom, my dad, me, Cassidy, and Labyrinth sit in the living room in our hideout. Asylum and Antillies went to handle the publicity's follow up questions about White Rabbit with Baelyne. Indigo, Ink, Aeryn, and Lucian went to Tokyo to take Daylen, Genna, and Loralai to Rai's department. Juniper, Katsuro, Caliber, Kazuki, Ryouichi, and Mitsuko went to help those who were injured earlier in the attack. Meanwhile, Valentina, Simon, Kai, Raphael, and Azriel went to deal with those who died.

"So," I start, looking at Bennett who is seated across from me, Jace, Essence, and Reece, sitting inbetween Labyrinth and Cassidy while my parents stand beside each other by the couches, "are you going to explain who you are?"

"Clattonia," Myfanwy starts, smiling slightly, "he's your cousin."

"My cousin?" I raise my eyebrows, glancing between Bennett and my parents, "why didn't you ever say something?"

"Well," my mom shifts around slightly, her eyes meeting my father's, "I honestly didn't know if he was even still alive. Your father's brother was a Supernatural who moved to America to escape all of the worrying and fear a few years before your father met me. He kept in touch and ended up moving back here with his wife that he met in America for a few years around the time that you were born."

"Right before your mother left," my dad starts, his eyes meeting mine, "your uncle had a son and they moved to Greece. I lost contact with them after I was captured."

"And I couldn't reach out to them while I was on the run," my mom explains.

"Okay," I shake my head, "but still, why didn't anyone ever bother to tell me he existed in the first place?"

"If it's any consolation," Bennett starts, smiling awkwardly, "I didn't know about you either. My father never really talked about his family. We always just focused on my mother's side of the family. I figured that there must have been a reason for it and I never questioned it."

"Okay," I frown slightly, "so, how did you end up back in Japan?"

"I wanted to see the place where I was born," Bennett shrugs, "I got a plane ticket to Japan and traveled to Shibuya, but a few minutes after I stepped foot into the city I was dragged away for questioning and was held captive by White Rabbit."

"How long were you held captive?" I ask.

"About three months," Bennett says, "I'm not really sure. They didn't really do anything to me. They just wanted to study my genetic make up and how my powers affected different things."

"I'm sorry," I frown, "you must have felt like a lab rat. How old are you, by the way?"

"I'm fifteen," Bennett answers, smiling slightly, "and that's alright. I'm just glad that I'm free now."

"And neither of you knew about this?" I turn my attention to Jace and Cassidy.

"Hey, I don't pay attention to who all gets dragged in," Cassidy raises his hands in defense, "I was an assassin, remember? I was usually out in the field. Besides, they drag in people all the time."

"I'm not usually on the restricted floor," Jace shakes his head, "I usually worked with Asylum or out in the field. Asylum sorted files, but they keep the files on people they capture where the people themselves are if they're restricted. Meaning the restricted floor's captives had their files down there. The rest of the files were in Asylum's work room. And whenever I went down there, I didn't go through the doors that held Bennett."

"Right," I sigh, turning my attention back to Bennett, "well, you're welcome to stay with us."

"Thank you," Bennett smiles and relief shows evident in his eyes.

"Where are you two going to live?" I ask, turning my attention back to my parents.

"We'll find somewhere," my mom smiles as my father keeps his arm around her waist and she rests her hand on his chest, "now that there's not as much fear of being captured, I can stay anywhere for long periods of time. Who knows, maybe we'll move in to our old house if it's not already taken."

"Maybe," my father smiles, "but I'm just glad to be back with my family. I missed you both so much."

"I missed you too, dad," I smile at him fondly and he ruffles my mom's hair.

"Well, this is touching," Labyrinth yawns, stretching, "but I'm gonna go get some sleep. I'll see you all in the morning."

Just as Labyrinth is heading back towards her room, a knock comes on the door.

"I'll get it," Cassidy sighs, standing up and heading towards the door.

Cassidy opens the door to reveal Misa standing there, holding Larissa's hand, who smiles up at her big brother. Misa's eyes flicker around uncertainly before she releases Larissa's hand, who runs up to Cassidy and hugs his legs.

"Big brother!" Larissa beams.

"Erm, thanks," Cassidy rubs the back of his neck awkwardly.

"No problem," Misa says, her eyes darting around to everyone in the room before looking back at Cassidy, "she was an angel. I'm guessing you're the person who persuaded Jace to ask me to watch her?"

"That's surprising," Cassidy grumbles before lifting up Larissa and carrying her in his arms, "and yeah. I'm her older brother."

"Well," Misa starts, rocking back and forth on her heels, "I guess I'll be going now."

"Right..." Cassidy trails off, "see you around."

"Probably not," Misa says and waves as she walks away and Cassidy shuts the door.

"Well, that was horrible to watch," Reece snorts, "didn't you two work together?"

"Shut up," Cassidy glares at Reece, "and yeah, but it's not like I ever interacted with her. She probably didn't even know who I was. I only knew her because of how popular she was and because of Jace mentioning her a few days ago, which is when I asked him to see if she could watch over Larissa."

"Well," Essence starts, "I think we've all had a long day. Getting rest seems like a good idea, don't you think?"

"Essence is right," Reece sighs, "we should rest."

And with that, we all head to our rooms to get some much needed rest after saying our goodnights.
