Day One

"Daddy please don't go!" I begged holding tightly to his waist. He was such a tall man with his hair neatly cut and his uniform pressed. He had a rucksack with a sleeping bag attached. His unit had been activated so he had to report to base for instructions. Mom and I weren't able to come with him.

"Baby girl, I'll be back. Don't you worry." He smiled, kissing the top of my head while prying me off from him. Mom stood with her fist to her mouth holding back tears.

"Please..." I heard her whisper. His mouth tightened into a straight line. Soldier's didn't cry, that's what he always told me. I didn't believe him until now. I never saw him cry... even now.

I couldn't keep the tears from starting so I ran to my room so he wouldn't see. I could be strong for my dad. I heard the door close and a loud thud, followed by the sound of mom crying. That made me cry even harder.

School was cancelled over a month ago. They continued to send homework until last week sometime. I was happy about that... however, I missed my friends. Amia kept in touch almost everyday. She was streaming all the BTS music videos on YouTube. I was for a while until I started seeing them on the news. One of them was missing though. All of Army was concerned and kept asking questions to which there was never an answer.

How could they not answer a simple question on where he was? I think I cried myself to sleep the night I saw that news clip. My mom told me not to worry. That perhaps he was sent home to be with family.

My response was BTS was his family. They had to stay together. But, then when I thought about it...

Maybe they didn't want to be with their actual families. As much as they adored their fans and each other. They needed to be with family. Especially now.

But... Why just the one?

I had so many theories aside from the family one. The phone rang in the other room. Pretty sure we were the only family that still had landlines aside from businesses.

"Hello?" Mom answered as I walked into the kitchen.

"What? When?" She seemed almost panicked. I watched her carefully, her hair was pulled up in a neat bun, and her shirt hung loosely on her shoulders. She was pretty, even with her wrinkles. Mom started fidgeting with the telephone cord, which was a nervous tick for her. A few moments later she hung up. Slowly she turned towards me, first she opened her mouth to say something then bit her knuckle.

"Mom?"

"Y/N..."

"Yea?"

"I have to go to work at the hospital. They need the extra hands."

Panic and fear rose in my chest. Both my parents were leaving me to aid others in a fight against a virus. I loved their bravery and strength. I just wish they would think about me.

"What about me?"

"Sweetie, everything you need is here. You are 16, you can take care of yourself. I believe in you."

"But..."

"You are strong, Y/N. What would RM do?"

Oh... I didn't think of that. What would BTS' fearless leader do?

Break something...

No he would find a way. That's what I will do.

"You are right! I will make you and dad proud, mom."

My mom smiled at me lovingly.

"That's my girl." She hugged me, then disappeared into her room soon after.

How do I do this on my own? Tartar sauce.

I closed the door to my bedroom, turning on the song 'lights' by BTS. Laying down on my bed, I stared up at the plastic stars I stuck on my ceiling. I don't even know how I'm going to survive without my parents here. There's no telling how long they will be gone either.

Mom peeked in my room.

"I've got to get going, sweetie. I love you"

I ran and gave her a tight hug. Praying it wouldn't be the last time I'd get to hug her. She let me go, lightly squeezing my shoulders.

"I made your favorite. It's on the stove. Take care my brave girl." And just like that... I was all alone.

I wasn't really hungry for mom's Mac and cheese. I just wanted to curl up in a ball and wake up from this nightmare. So, I went back to my room, put my earbuds in, turned on 'forever rain', and then curled up in a ball under my blanket.

Maybe, tomorrow I will wake up and my parents will still be here, and the world outside will be just fine.

One can only pray.
