noah cameron schnapp
eleanor and i stood in my kitchen rolling and cutting cookie dough. we were making my annual christmas cookies, although christmas was three weeks from now. her cheek was marked with flour. she took the star-shaped cookie cutter and cut the cookies into rows. every year, schnapp industries has a holiday banquet. many, many people are invited. people from the upper east side, mostly colleagues. we're all allowed a date and this year i wanted it to be eleanor. i has already sent an invitation to her apartment, the official ones that my parents send, her name written in beautiful calligraphy. as i threw out the remaining dough, she put the last tray into the oven. later, we would decorate them. i washed my flour off my hands and went to my room to get the rose that i got eleanor to go along with asking her. i held it behind my back as i walked to her. i was suddenly nervous to ask, but that's what girls you love do to you. she turned around. "hi?" she said giggling. "hi." i said. it was awkward. "i was wondering if you'd like to be my date to my parents winter banquet?" i asked holding the rose up. she laughed. my face dropped from a smile. did i do something wrong? "noah, your so nervous." she giggled. my face went red and i smirked, looking down at the ground. "i would be honored to go with you." she smiled. she sniffed the flower. this morning, i got tickets for the nutcracker, for the two of us to see tonight. as she put the rose down, i slipped away into the dining room where the tickets were; sitting in an envelope on the table. i took them then headed back to the kitchen. she tilted her head and then read what was written on the envelope. "the nutcracker?" eleanor asked. i could see the excitement in her eyes. "yeah." i said nodding. she smiled big with excitement. "i'll get you at 7? it starts at 7:30." i asked. she nodded. she then left and went to get ready. she oven beeped and i realized that i has forgotten about the cookies. i moved quickly to take them out. i wondered if today would be the right day to ask her to be my girlfriend. is it too soon? i had been thinking about this for weeks. i walked down the hall to my room to get ready after i switched the cookies onto the cooking rack. i buttoned up my white shirt then put my blue blazer on top of it, retiring my t-shirt and pants for the night. i re-did my hair to make sure that it was actually good. i wanted my parents here to see me, to tell me how grown up i look or whatever parents say to their kids when they dress up. but they were here. i felt so lonely. i feel so lonely all the time. most of the time there was nobody but me in this big space i call home. i wish i could hug my parents goodbye and hello everyday, but i'm never awake when they leave or come home. it's like i never see them ever, even though we share a house. i took a picture of my myself then sent it to my mom and dad. no reply. how can two people be so busy? tears pricked my eyes. i was so sick of this. eleanor was like family now and i'm so grateful for that. i then left to get eleanor with our driver. we pulled up in front of her building that was a few blocks away from mine. i got out of the car and went up to her apartment. when she opened the door, my jaw dropped. she had a lot of makeup on, her hair was done extremely nicely. she looked stunning. she wore a black silk dress that went to about her knees with her jacket on top. "you look beautiful." i told her. she blushed. she walked back down to the car and drove to the theater. we got out of the car and went into the beautiful theater. soon it started. the dancers twirled and leaped across the stage. i looked over at eleanor, she was in awe. her eyes wide open and her mouth slightly open. she was absorbed in the music and choreography. was this something i never knew about her? i've never seen her look at something like the way she was watching the stage. i smirked at her and she looked over and smiled widely at me. after the ballet was over, she clapped so hard her hands turned red. eleanor had a passion for dance and i had no clue. we walked out and waited for the driver. "that was amazing." she said bubbly. i then took a picture of her in front of the sign for the nutcracker, she had a smile from ear to ear. soon the driver pulled up and we slipped into the car. i think she had been smiling ever since we walked out. "thank you." she said to me. i smiled genuinely. "no problem." i responded. it was quiet between us now. was this the time? i was going to ask her. i looked over at her trying to make the words come out. she looked back at me. we stared into each others eyes. nothing would come out. i was lost in her brown eyes. next thing i knew, she was leaning in towards me. soon, her lips crashed on mine. our first kiss.
