Chapter 9

"Sora!"

Sora immediately turned to his voice and let out a breath of relief to see him unhurt.

"What are you doing here?"

Jimin called out as he jogged towards the main gate where he saw Sora pacing around.

"I told you t-to wait inside the building," Jimin panted as he tried to catch the breath that he had spent searching for her inside the building.

Sora waited- for him to catch his breath and for her pounding heart to calm down.

"What happened, Jimin?" Sora asked, struggling to keep worry from seeping into her voice.

Jimin was struck by the lack of emotion in her voice.

"The call? I hit an unexpected speed bump and the phone fell under the seat. I didn't want to stop and search for it since I was almost here anyway..."

"Oh, okay."

Jimin stared at her, expecting something more than the two-word reply. Something felt off and before he could ask her, she interrupted him.

"Here." A single gruff word was uttered as she handed over his phone to him.

"Sora... Did something happen?"

"Hmm? No, nothing happened. You didn't have to come here, I could have just got you the phone."

"I was worried..."

It almost seemed like she was angry at him for coming back.

"I understand that your phone is important-"

"What? I was worried about you. Not the phone," Jimin said interrupting her.

"Me?" Sora asked, failing to understand him.

"Sora, it's two in the morning. You are here alone with a completely useless security guard who is snoring away at his post."

"Jimin, I have stayed out later than this, especially after concerts. So this isn't something new for me."

"But it is new for me."

Sora finally looked straight at him- something she had been avoiding ever since he looked at her with worry in his eyes.

"I didn't know about your timings earlier, but now that I do I can't help but worry about you."

"Well, you don't have to. Anyway, I'll see you at work on Monday." Sora did a quick formal bow as she decided to leave.

Jimin and Sora had long gone done away with the formality. Watching her bow to him confused him more than her sudden distant behaviour.

Sora turned on her heel and started to walk out when she felt a hand wrap around her wrist and gently tug her back.

"Sora, what's wrong?" Jimin asked, his voice so low that it could be barely be heard over the howling wind.

"Nothing is wrong. I am going to go now. Enjoy your weekend!" Sora slowly pulled her hand away from him.

"I don't know what I did but I am sorry! Now, can you please get into the car so I can drop you back home?" Jimin was starting to get annoyed. He didn't understand why she was being so cold to him.

"You don't have to do that. I can go on my own."

"Sora, I am tired. It's late. I am going to drop you home and that's the end of this discussion."

Sora huffed under her breath as she watched him walk to his car.

He pulled up the car in front of her and waited for her to get in.

"Sora." Jimin sighed, as she stood outside the door, hands crossed at her chest.

She reluctantly got in, although annoyed she knew not to push his buttons anymore.

"I don't know where you live, so you'll have to guide-"

Jimin watched Sora silently type in the navigation system of the car and it immediately gave out directions.

Sora stared out the window, refusing to look at him.

Jimin stared at the road ahead, refusing to look at her.

Both fighting their conflicting emotions.

Both asking themselves the same question.

What am I doing?
