Chapter 59

𝑬𝒑𝒊𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒖𝒆ఌ︎❥︎

Two months have passed since Deacon and Wendy were wed before the small gathering of family and friends in the impromptu ceremony orchestrated by Deacon Ffrench Sr. It was one of the many blessed occasions they were befitted with.

Wendy who was busy pacing the length of her desk only to pause and stare at the phone then start to pace again nibbled on her bottom lip and sighed. She continued her pacing until she found herself standing at Deacon's empty desk.

The desk where he had a few months ago ignited the flames that she had kept dormant behind her past hurt and her being adamant Mr Arrogant himself was not worth so much a daydream or a slight inkling of her attraction.

She touched the slick surface of the neatly kept desk before her fingers traced its contents as her mind drifted to the day Deacon had driven her to sexual frustration and limited self-control as he threw her composure out the door with his heady kisses and mind-boggling caresses on the shiny surfaces.

It had started with her white lie and Deacon using it to offer a compromise to them now being married, in love and very much happy. There was so much she was grateful for. Her life had chartered a course of happiness that just kept spreading to her family and friends. It's like loving Deacon has lifted a curse and she is now living her fairy tale and basking in her happily ever after.

She paused at the framed photo of Deacon and his father taken the day of their wedding and she smiled as they seemed so refreshed and restored. Life was not the wretched instigator after all but a faithful composer of joy and happiness. She looks at the other photo of the two of them held in a warm embrace as husband a wife and her heart swells with love further as tears of gratitude prick her eyes.

'This is just the beginning' he had told her as they had shared their first moment as man and wife 'of me loving you more and more each day Wendy.'

She knew exactly how he felt as she was very much wrapped up in what he was feeling. To know that Deacon and his father could in the final moments of his life find their way to building the bridge that circumstances and insecurities had torn down increase her faith in life to see her through and offer her peace. It's hard nonetheless to know he was no longer here but he did give them a legacy that she vowed to build on with her husband.

She would forever value her friends and family. They were the wind beneath her wings.

Leela and Leo were now a happy family with an ecstatic Bear who would very much want to have her aunt home with them but understood that Ky's life was with Destiny in Africa was now focussing on making her parents turn her into a big sister and Leo who loved making his daughter's wishes and dreams come through was making every effort to ensure she got it. Leela loved it and was beyond happy and this increased her happiness.

They were much more in this circle of happiness. To her surprise, she and Deacon were invited to be the Godparents to little Isaiah who was not here as yet but his delightful parents were planning a beautiful christening ceremony that Elizabeth would hold at her private villa in Nane.

Love was soaring about them in ways she had often deemed as extraordinary. All the tragedies, heartaches and brokenness were distant memories as happy endings were giving way to new beginnings.

She wondered to the leather chair that she missed seeing Deacon sitting in and watching her when he thought she wasn't looking. It had only been three days since he left for Canada and it seemed like forever but in a few hours he would be back home and she hoped to share with him another bit of information that would cement further happiness.

Her mind drifted to her mother and aunt who were somewhere in the Caribbean on an around-the-world curse to celebrate Cynthia's total recovery from cancer. Precilla had decided this would be the best way to celebrate such a marvellous revelation. They had chatted the night before and she was so excited to listen to all the things that they were experiencing and Precilla had dropped the news that Adam and Gorgi were expecting.

"Things are just rolling in sunshine and rainbows," Cynthia had chimed delightfully but hearing her say she hoped the same for Wendy had sent her into a panic.

She had a secret that she was keeping close to her heart but knew that in time she must reveal it. Even though she had not yet received the confirmation call from Leela she knew deep down what the results were. She was afraid to be happy as Brandon and the past were not yet buried deep enough.

Her hand strayed to her stomach just as her cellphone rang and she walked on heavy feet to retrieve it from her desk.

"Hello," she answered softly even though she knew it was Leela.

"I have the results," she said her voice sounding business-like and too composed.

"Ok."

"It seems the tests you've taken at home were inaccurate Wen," she told her and then laughed with delight. "Honey, you are pregnant!"

Wendy felt her weak knees buckle and she gripped her desk and sighed as tears spilt down her cheeks. It had happened after all that had happened with Brandon she was given her chance at motherhood.

"Am so happy for you love," Leela cooed on the other end of the phone as she tried to compose herself.

"Am going to have a baby, Lee. I am?"

"Yes, love you are. The right time in the right moment is finally here and I am so happy for you and Deacon," she said softly her happiness evident in the sweet timbre of her voice.

"I can't wait to tell Deacon that we are going to have a baby," she laughed and cried in delight then gasped when a familiar voice said from behind her as the office door closed.

"Here I am you can tell me now."

Leela who had heard said quickly, "Congratulations love we'll talk later," then rang off.

Wendy replaced the phone on her desk turned to her husband and stared at him with emotions raging in her dark eyes as she stood there. Her mouth opens to speak but the words seem to lodge there as she stares at the man who she has come to love without any inhibitions.

"Wendy tell me. I need to hear you say it," he whispered his voice laced with emotions.

"I...we," she started then swallowed before saying. "I am pregnant."

He smiled at her as he slowly closed the distance between them his grey eyes sparkling with love and happiness as he came to stand by her.

With gentle fingers, he wipes her tear-stained cheeks and then kisses each cheek before claiming her lips passionately.

Wendy melted into his body as she wrapped her arms around him and pulled him closer. This was her place to be. This was her moment to be her true self, her identity and person were firmly defined. A wife, a mother and a constant companion as she fostered the love and care of all those she held dear.

Her brokenness was no more, her past hurt and betrayals were finally made to be scattered like ashes on the wind and chartered off into distant fields of forgetfulness.

"I drove like the devil was on my tail to get here to you. I missed you like crazy," he told her when they finally pulled apart.

"You did now?" she smiled in delight.

"Yes, being away from you is torture and that picture you sent sure didn't send me to bed a happy man last night Mrs Ffrench," he said with a playful glare.

"O my," she said undoing his tie. "I best make up for that."

He grinned as he let her slip his jacket from his shoulder.

He let his hand slip to her stomach and rest there as she paused in her undressing of him and looked at his hand resting gently on her still-flat stomach.

"Thank you, Wendy. Thank you for everything," he whispered his voice choked with emotions.

"I must be the one thanking you. You gave me a second chance and I will forever be grateful to you my love."

She took his hand a led him to the lounge and as the door closed behind them a delightful squeal could be heard as Decan scooped her up into his arms and shouted.

"I am going to be a dad!"

All is well that ends well, be it with a lie and a compromise or just typical faith and its companion...destiny.
