Chapter 2
(Harry's POV)
I remember waking up, feeling groggy and aching all over. There was nothing dull about the aches that I felt. I blinked my eyes open, seeing nothing but darkness. I closed them again, giving in to my tired body.
I remember waking up again, this time I knew where I was, but still wasn’t sure about what had happened. I was twisted awkwardly in my seat. The way Preston had stuck me before-
What happened?
When I tried to move, I found it impossible to move my neck at all. I tried to feel around with the rest of my body, but I felt instantly sick to my stomach from the pain. My body gave out on me and I sat there, blinking away the darkness, but it took over once more.
I kept hearing this ringing. A high pitch ring that you get when you- Something like when you stand too close to speakers with a microphone in your hand. It was that kind of ringing. It’s all I could hear. When I opened my eyes for the final time, something was covering my face. I could feel it. It was some kind of sheet. I tried to move it out of the way, but I found that my arms were immobile as well.
That was when I started to panic.
I found it had to breath, hard to move, hard to do anything. It was like waking up in the middle of the night, without being fully awake, with a blanket over your face. It was terrifying. Suddenly, I felt something press to my forehead and what felt like a huge release of pressure on the rest of my body.
The ringing in my ears continued, but at least some of the pain was gone. The sheet slipped from my face I saw a purpling sky. It was weird; I remembered that it was strictly dark out, nighttime, when we got in the car.
In the car…
Shit. Everything was started to come back to me and I realized what was going on around me. The reasons why my body was aching all over and the why I wasn’t able to move my head were because of those blinding lights coming at us. We were in a car crash.
My breathing picked up to the point of hyperventilation. I was seeing the early morning sky, which meant the roof of the car wasn’t there anymore. I was seeing flashing lights in between fits of blurred vision as well, which calmed my nerves only slightly.
I blinked away some tears that had started to fall. I didn’t know anything past the fact that I was injured and in a smashed car. I didn’t know what happened to Louis, Liam, Zayn, Niall, or even Preston. I was alone, very alone and left with only this ringing in my ears.
(Liam's POV)
“Ah, dammit- f-“ I groaned, grabbing my shoulder. There was this intense, blinding, pain there that I could only connect to my shoulder being out of place. I also felt blood dripping from my nose. I smacked my head pretty hard against the back of Harry’s seat-
Harry.
“Hey, Har-“ I croaked out, sputtering blood from my lips. “Harry, you okay up there?” The car that hit us came out of nowhere and hit the front, right side of our SUV. That was where Harry was sitting. I never got a response from Harry and that worried me. “Hazza?” I called out again. “Oh god, don’t be-“ I feared the worst.
When I tried to wiggle from my seat, I found that my leg was stuck between the edge of my seat and the car door that was smashed in. The more I moved it, the more it hurt.
“Mr. Payne. Please don’t move.” I looked over, through the broken window and saw a paramedic shining a stupid light in my face. “You’ve been a serious car accident. Does anything hurt?”
I rolled my eyes. You would expect them to realize that I was in pain. It was a serious car accident after all. “My bloody shoulder and face for Christ’s sake. If that wasn’t obvious enough.” I gripped my shoulder, though the pain didn’t stop.
“We need to put this brace on you.” The paramedic reached into the car with this strange looking plastic thing. I soon realized it was a neck brace when he locked It into place around my neck, nearly choking me. “Mr. Payne, we’re going to need to use our hydraulic rescue tool to get you and Mr. Styles out. Your friends have already been removed from the car.”
“Jaws of life?” I questioned them. Shit. It really was a bad accident. “Get Harry out first. Get him out-“ The paramedic shook his head at me. Before he spoke his next words I had a small panic attack. When he shook his head I thought he meant that they weren’t going to get Harry out first because there was no reason to. “He’s not dead- he’s not. You need to get him out first.” I started to pull at my leg. I tried to get it free from the wreckage, but the metal from the car door just ripped at my skin. Blood seeped into my jeans.
“Mr. Payne. Please calm down. Your friend is alive, but we need to get you out first so that we can get him out safely.”
I sighed internally; relieved to hear Harry was alive. Not well, but at least alive. I agreed to be removed from our car, what was left of it that is, first, then Harry. The paramedic proceeded to cover my face with a sheet after doing to same to Harry after bracing his neck as well.
Then the popping and crunching of metal filled my ears. The noise must have stirred Harry awake, because he started to move. "Harry!" I yelled over the jaws of life that ripped away the roof of the car. "Harry, we're gonna be okay. Alright, Harry? You hear me?" I never got a response from him. More of the metal from the car was removed before I could finally get my leg free.
I pulled the sheet from my face, much to the paramedics displeasure. "Can I get out of here now?" I asked, trying to pull myself from the wreckage, but failing miserably because of my shoulder.
"Liam!" I heard Niall's voice in the distance. He was behind me in the car and I wondered how he had gotten out unharmed. A few emergency workers grabbed at me and got me out of the car and onto a stretcher. The pushed me back against the cold board and made me stay still, which was the last thing I wanted to do. I wanted to see if Harry was okay. That's all that mattered after I saw the rest of the guys, including Preston, outside and in at least "okay" condition.
"Guys-" I saw their relieved faces that I was alive and out of the car. Zayn winced, most likely due to the blood that was all over my face from my nose. They ran up to my stretcher as I was about to be lifted into the ambulance. Preston tried holding them back, but they all persisted.
"Only one person can come with him." The paramedic said. They all had a fuss about it, but Zayn got to me first. He automatically raised his hand and climbed into the back of the ambulance. I was then lifted inside and they closed the doors, sirens blaring.
"What about Harry?" I asked, still worried about my friend. My voice cracked from some of the blood getting into my mouth and dripping down my throat. I saw Zayn frown. I worried that his frown meant things were not okay.
"It's not good, mate. I saw a lot of blood." Zayn rubbed his scratched up hands across his face and let out a heavy sigh. He looked extremely tired and emotionally drained, which was the complete opposite of the usual calm air around him. I gave him the same look back. This was going to be a long night, er, I guessed it was day by then. Zayn continued. "They were attempting to get him out before we left. I didn't see anything else."
I clenched my teeth, partly die to the pain and partly do to my emotions flooding me. "This isn't good." I said. “This isn’t good at all, Zayn.”
"No. It's not." Zayn replied. “What are we going to do?” He asked me, looking for some sort of answer from me. I usually had the answer for almost anything. This time I didn’t. I just shook my head before another shot of pain stung my shoulder. The paramedic barked something at me and I glared at him in return.
Why was it taking so long to get to the hospital?
(Harry' POV)
I soon found out why I could see the early morning sky. They had to take the roof off the car. And the pressure I felt on the rest of my body was from the whole front of the car being smashed in and pinning me in my seat. It was in and out from there, I could see the lights of the emergency vehicles. I saw glimpses of people running around our wrecked car. Then I saw Preston. He was looking right at me. He looked like he was shouting, but-
This damn ringing! I couldn’t hear a thing. Not even the paramedics looking at my situation and asking me questions. Well, I assumed they were, but all I could see were lips moving. They shined a light in my eyes and I squinted.
Their faces.
It wasn’t good.
They looked at me like a corpse in a fatal crash.
This wasn’t good.
H-how bad was it?
That was when they moved my seat back carefully, but no matter how slow they went, the pain was still there. I clenched my teeth; bit my lip, drawing blood. Then I screamed. The pain was so bad that it blinded me. I tried reaching for my leg, where the pain was burning the most. I scrambled to stop the pain, but my actions only caused the rest of my body to ache.
There was a pressure on my side and I tried to move my head to look at what or who was on my other side, but this thing around my neck kept me from doing so. I felt hands lifting my side and then on the open side of the car, there was another person. They lifted me up and then out of the car. My body felt like it was on fire, the worst of the pain concentrated at my head.
Once I was pulled out, I was strapped into something, which further restrained my body. The rest of the trip went by in a blur. I was relieved to see Lou. He looked good, even though he was a blabbering mess of tears. There was a long cut along his forehead, but it looked like it was already tended to.
“Louis-“ I knew I was saying his name aloud, and it sounded in my head as well, but I heard nothing. I couldn’t even hear my own voice. They lifted me inside the cold ambulance and Louis climbed in as well. He grabbed my hand. I looked at him and tried to smile, just to assure him that I was alive. He was still crying, but I think my half-smile eased his anxiety.
“It’s- kay, Tommo.” My vision blurred and the pounding in my head and ringing in my ears got the best of me. I just wanted to sleep. I wanted to give up to the welcoming darkness. I closed my eyes and let it take over me.
I felt Louis’ grip tighten on my hand.
A/N: This may seem a little Larry-ish, but sorry that's a no. I so like Larry, but I am keeping this story as a BROmance because Louis is with Eleanor (and I think they are darling together!) As always, please vote and comment and do ALL the things! I still want to hear some feed back! Tell me what you all think! -Jach
