Chapter 16

   (Harry's POV)

When I said that I was itching to get out of this cast on my leg. I literally meant that I was scratching at the hard edges, trying to get inside and rip off the surface of my skin. It itched so badly and I couldn’t wait until I could get the damned thing off.

“Alright, we have to use this type of medical saw…” The doctor tried to explain the whole process but I urged her on and propped my leg up on the examination table. She smiled and carefully removed the cast but cutting it down one side and up the other.

“So I will get one of those air boots, yeah?” I asked. I knew that the broken bone in my leg was nowhere near done healing. It had only been a little over two months, a week since I got back in London, and the doctor at the beginning said that it would take three to four months for everything to heal.

“Yes. We have one ready after we take some x-rays to check your healing progress.” She removed the awful cast from my leg and the sight was a little grotesque. I have thin legs to begin with, but having that cast on one of them sucked most of the muscle away. After moving me to the x-ray room and shooting some rays of radiation at me, we were done and the boot was placed on my leg and that was that. The doctor warmed me that I would probably need to use a crutch in the beginning to get the feel of things, but by the end of the week I should be walking, although irregularly, on my own.

Enough about my leg. This is about my ears. The left was healed mostly, albeit the dissolving stitches just behind. Those weren’t much of a problem though. My hair could easily hide them. My other ear on the other hand. It felt clogged. Small strings of throbbing pain hit me mostly at night when I would lie down to sleep. The doctor checked my ear as well and just said that the last process of my ear healing is the worst. It lasts for the most part of the last month of healing. Hopefully the month will go by fast.

Hopefully this week will go by fast. The meeting we had with management the day after I returned to London, we all met with management. It didn’t go so bad. It was nothing like the last time with the representative who thought it was a good idea that I keep my injuries a secret. How the hell I was supposed to do that, I will never know. I got out of there before I would have been put in that situation.

“We see that the fans are getting really uneasy because of your absence.” The tall man said, pointing at me. I lowered my head in defeat. It was coming. The repercussions for my actions were boiling inside this guy. I looked over at Louis who was also being yelled at by another guy for up and disappearing.

“Louis was just driving. We all went to get Harry. And look!” Liam exaggeratingly pointed at me. “We got him back! What more do you want?”

Management went silent. The two men turned towards each other. They mumbled things to each other before turning back and facing us. “Alright. We see that your actions have indeed brought back and very important part of the band, but that does not explain the other missed meetings. We have been set back for weeks on end because of the disappearances, public stunts, and hospital visits.”

My blood boiled. They were really blaming needed hospital visits for their messed up precious schedule? I cleared my throat. “You were the ones who made us go to that club, put us in that situation, put us in that car.” My words were like poison. I was standing by then, leaning my weight on the table in front of me. I wasn’t raising my voice, but the power behind my words sunk in. Everyone went silent. My face must have been red because it usually did get that way when I get flustered about something.

“Easy, Harry.” Zayn said, easing me back down in my chair. He kept a tight grip on my shoulder, knowing that I would pounce across this table and punch the guys in suits in the face if I could.

“Let’s forget about the past and get One Direction back on track.” Management really wanted to push my buttons. There was so much in the past that was so pertinent to the present. But they were right. We needed to move on from this, and the fact that they were willing to do so was amazing.

So by the end of this week we have another public outing. This time, we would have enough bodyguards to keep each of us safe. I was able to converse with fans this time around, at least by hearing them through my left ear. We we’re going to a park, mention it on Twitter, and go there to sign autographs, take pictures with fans, and make an announcement. Announcement? Well that was a secret until then.

(Louis' POV)

@Louis_Tomlinson: Time and Place! 23 Nov. Hyde Park.

Each of us posted the same thing a few days before the twenty-third. The Internet blew up as millions of our fans started to freak out and plan their lives around the twenty-third. We didn’t even tell them what was going on, just a time and a place. They would do all the rest.

On the way to the park, Niall kept laughing and looking at his phone. “They’re already tweeting photos of the park.” We heard the shouts and girlish screams as our two vans pulled up to the entrance of Hyde Park. Just like we thought there would be. There was at least a couple hundred, if not a thousand, fans holding up signs and shouting our names.

“Ready?” I asked everyone in the car, which were Preston, Thomas, Harry, Niall and myself. Preston had a walkie-talkie and in his hand and he called out to the second van behind us that had Liam and Zayn in it along with the other bodyguards.

“As I’ll ever be.” Harry answered with a smile. He tapped the surface of his grey air boot and began to open the door to step out first after Preston and Tom made sure the area was okay around the vans. I followed behind Harry with Niall behind me. I saw Harry wince at the sheer noise of the fans. Maybe it was a little too much? He soon straightened himself up and walked towards the crowd.

A smiled crept up on my face as I raised my arms in the air. “HELLO LONDON!” I shouted and the fans went crazy. Some reached out and some kept their distance because they knew about what happened the last time anyone got too close. Harry stood at the edge of the crowd. Some girls, and guys, reached out and touched his outstretched arms, linking hands with the lucky few. I did the same and stood next to him.

“Larry!” A girl shouted. I rolled my eyes. They would never give up.

“We love you Louis!” I smiled, cupping my hands together to form a heart. I showed it to he crowd and there was a string of camera’s flashing. Thomas and Preston stood close, keeping an eye out for any crazies.

“Alright! Listen up everyone!” Liam shouted, his voice boomed over the crowd and suddenly it became very quiet. I looked over to him, past Harry who was checking his ear, most likely to see if it was still working after the girls screaming created a sort of tunnel effect on all of our hearing.  Liam was standing on a crate so that he could see a larger portion of the large group of fans. “We’re going to take some pictures! Line up nicely and don’t push!”

They did push, some girl fell down and I made my way to her to help her up form the ground. I gave her a hug and she was the first to get a pictures. For the next part of the hour we spent at Hyde Park, I must have taken a couple hundred photos with fans. And that was just with me. Other girls lined up for Niall, Liam, Zayn and Harry. This outing was going spectacular. I signed a few things until the marker I was given ran out of ink and I couldn’t sign anymore. I looked over at Harry who was signing one after another. The poor girl whose paper I couldn’t sign was on the verge of tears. She looked so disappointed. “Hey Haz.” I called over, but had to repeat myself on a louder volume. He looked up and excused himself from the line of girls waiting for him.

“Yeah?”

“Let me borrow that.” I pulled the marker from his hand and signed the girl’s paper quickly. “There you are, love.”

“Stay in school.” Harry winked at her. The girl smiled brightly and I rolled my eyes.

“Did you really just tell her to stay in school?” I chuckled. Harry nodded, a bright smile on his face. It was nice to see him this way, back in his element. He looked so happy rather than the emotionally down guy he was not to long ago.

It was my turn to stand on the crate. All the fans went silent yet again. “We have an announcement!” I yelled out into the crowd. The few fans that were still chatting quieted down and all eyes were on me. The boys crowded around the crate and our bodyguards kept the fans a good ten feet away by that point. “This week we stay tuned for our interview with….” I patted my legs quickly for a drum roll effect. “ALAN CARR!” The crowd went crazy. Our interviews with Alan were always the best. It was going to be nice to see him again, but I wasn’t too sure how well harry would do in the dance competition with that boot on his leg.

We said our goodbyes and piled back into the vans. I looked at Harry and saw that he was taking a deep breath. “You alright, mate?” I questioned.

He looked up, his face a little paler than usual. “Yeah.” He took in another deep breath. “Just strange being back, you know?”

(Harry's POV)

We stood at the top of the stairs, ready to make our way onto the stage. I could hear Alan Carr’s particular voice talk to his crowd of listener. “You’ve seen them before. You know who they are. It’s One Direction!” The crowd went crazy as we filed down the stairs. I took it slower than the rest, which is why I was in the back of the line. The set was lit up in purples and blues. This time around there was another couch that we could sit on along with the blue couch. We had been outgrowing the couch with each interview.

“Anyone want a drink?” Alan asked as we sat down. I was the first to raise my hand and everyone laughed. I needed that drink. “So Harry, how’s the leg?”

I looked down at my boot. “Broken.” The crowd laughed again. I chuckled along with them as Alan handed me a drink and I took a sip.

“Other than the lot of your disappearing to Narnia, what has been going on in the lives of One Direction?” Alan crossed his legs and leaned forward, intent on listening to every word we had to say.

“Lots of recuperation.” Liam spoke. “We took some time to focus our attention to ourselves.”

“Like the focus isn’t on you.” Alan remarked. Fits of laughter came from the crowd once more.

“We we’re mostly looking out for Harry.” Zayn said, latching an arm around me and squeezing me close before letting go. “Almost thought we lost him there in the beginning. But he’s still here kicking. Well, with his boot.” I smiled and looked around at my best friends. I couldn’t ask for any better people to be a part of my life.

“Well, I would say we have another rematch of dance competition, but Harry might have to sit this one out.” Alan uncrossed his legs and stood up. He was right. I couldn’t dance even without the boot. God knows how I would dance with the thing attached to my leg. The boys stood up and I leaned forward, taking another sip from my drink.

“I can be the judge.” I smirked. “Bias is best.”

Alan’s eyes squinted together in laughter. He pushed his glasses back up farther on the bridge of his nose. “Cheeky bastard.” It was turn for the crowd to laugh again as well as everyone else on stage. I sat back and shrugged. Alan brought out his funny looking boom box and music flooded the large room. We won that round, setting it up for another tiebreaker the next time we had an interview with Alan. Before we cut to break, Alan stood up and addressed his audience.

“You’ve heard their music from their albums, but One Direction is here to stay and perform their upcoming hit song live for all of you who are watching to enjoy. Stay tuned after the break to hear One Direction perform ‘Kiss You!’” The crowd erupted in joyful screams. I stood with the rest of the guys and we hooked arms over shoulders in a line.

Thinking back on everything that had happened in the past few months I realize how drastically life can change in a small amount of time. Whether those moments include making it through to the next round in X Factor, or selling an album for the first time, being best friends with your band mates, or even bad things like a car crash, it’s always worth it in the end.

Everything will be okay in the end, if not amazing.

The End
