Chapter 14
(Harry's POV)
The ride back to Holmes Chapel was nice. I slept for the most part; keeping my head against my pillow so that when my mother hit a bump on the rode I wouldn’t hit my newly reinjured ear on the car window. When there were about thirty minutes left in our trip I started to recognize the scenery and my heart jumped. I hadn’t been home in so long and I missed it. There was something about sleeping in an all too small bed and eating my mum’s home cooking that made me smile. After the thirty minutes passed my mother pulled into the driveway. The house looked just as I had left it, only the leaves from the surrounding trees had fallen into the yard. I would clean them up while I was home but it would be sort of hard since raking and hobbling on crutches requires a skill that I didn’t have.
My mother parked the car just outside out garage and opened her door. I attempted to get the door open on my side and slide out of the car, but she was there before I could even move an inch. She had my crutches in her hands and opened the door handing them to me one at a time. “Thanks.” I mumbled under my breath.
She held her hand on my back the entire time up to the door until it opened and Robin stood there, a smile on his face. He started to say something, but then stopped suddenly, his face twisting with concern. He turned to my mom who frowned back at him. He then moved out of the way and let me inside while patting me on the shoulder. I figured my mother told him about my hearing problem and he had a momentary lapse in memory.
The familiar smell of my house eased my nerves. I crutched over to the couch in the family room and plopped down on the cushions. Robin was gone for a little bit, but came back in with my bags. He pointed at them and looked at me with a questioning look. I shrugged. I wasn’t sure where they wanted to put them. It wasn’t like I could make it up the stairs ten or more times a day. It was either that or I stayed there indefinitely. Robin shrugged and laughed, setting the bags down in the family room. My mother stood beside him and held my white board in her hands. She briefly explained the workings to Robin and he nodded.
Just lie down and rest, Harry. I’m going to start dinner.
My mother set the board down on our coffee table and handed me the remote and my pillow from the car. I put it at one end of the couch and raised my newly casted leg up onto the couch carefully. I pulled my phone from my pocket and contemplated for a few moments before shutting it off. I seriously meant it when I decided that this would be my time to heal.
I guess this is goodbye for now.

(Zayn's POV)
So as far as I can tell, Harry is dead. Well, maybe not dead dead, but at least dead to the world. No one has spoken to him in nearly two months. Well, no one other than Paul who was keeping tabs on his recovery. He would update us weekly about what’s going on. We had a meeting with management after the interview that happened a week after Harry left. Harry was supposed to come back after the two weeks, but, well, he just didn’t.
“So….” I blew out a heavy breath.
“Yeah…. So….” Louis mimicked me. We sat in his flat playing videogames all day. Paul kept telling us to leave the whole Harry thing alone, but he was our mate. We were genuinely worried about him. He wouldn’t answer his phone. Louis tried calling Anne, but it went to voicemail.
“Think he’ll ever come back?” I asked. Louis shrugged. I huffed in annoyance and paused the game. “Paul said his hearing is back in his one ear. So there’s that.” I said pacing around Louis’ flat, picking up the trash that accumulated while we lounged about all day. “His other ear is probably getting there too.”
After I trashed all the junk that was laying about I sat back down on the couch. Louis had turned the game off and was lying upside down on the couch staring at his phone. “What do you think he’s up to?” I assumed he was talking about Harry since the guy was the topic of almost any conversation we had. Even with Liam and Niall. We all just wanted Harry to come back. He was the glue that kept us all together. One Direction wasn’t doing so hot as of late. I can’t even remember the last time we had a jam session.
“Probably being lazy and not washing his hair.” We both laughed at that imagining Harry’s greasy hair after a few days of not washing it. The guy made so much money, but honestly forgot to buy shampoo with that money. Louis suddenly twisted around on the couch and his eyes widened. “What?” I raised an eyebrow at him.
“Why don’t we just go get him?” He asked.
I laughed. “Like that’s going to work.”
“No really. I have his address for his home. We can just go and get him. I don’t see why not.” Louis stood up from the couch. “I bet Liam and Niall would in for it. Come on.” Louis tugged on my shirt’s sleeve, urging me to go with him.
“Wait mate. We can’t just go. What about our meeting with management tomorrow? Paul said we had to go to this one. It was important.” I tried reasoning with Louis, but he wouldn’t have it. He was already putting his coat on to battle the cold weather outside. I grumbled and did the same. “Well we missed the past two meetings. What’s another one?” I shrugged. I knew Paul would be pissed, but Harry has gotten to skip everything we did with management and even that dreadful interview. Why couldn’t we? I pulled my arms through my leather jacket and followed Louis out the door. We got into his car and drove off. Louis made me call up Liam and Niall. Just like he said they would, they were completely in. We drove by their places and they piled into Louis’ car. Then we were on the road to Holmes Chapel.
“We’re taking to boy band to Holmes Chapel! We’re taking the boy band to Holmes Chapel!” Niall chimed in the backseat. His tune sounded much like that dreadful Lord of the Rings song. “Maybe he got fat from his mum’s cooking.” Niall chuckled. It was a possibility. He was probably lying about a lot.
“Guys, we’re playing on the radio.” Liam mentioned and we all quieted to hear the faint murmur of our music over the radio. Louis turned it up and our voices filled the car. It was still strange to hear ourselves over the radio. It was a crazy step from the X Factor that none of us saw coming. We were a world sensation now. Well, we were. I don’t know exactly what we are. Much like Harry, One Direction as a whole was dead to the world. After the song ended we were silent again, Louis turned the radio back down and continued focusing on his driving. We didn’t need another car crash and the rainy weather was beginning to become a nuisance.
“In three point two kilometers….” The in car GPS told us that we were getting ready to get off the road and enter into Holmes Chapel. “Turn right in….” Almost there. “You have reached your destination on the left.” We turned into the small driveway and parked next to what we believed to be Anne’s car. When he got out the front door opened and Anne’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Hey Anne!” Louis waved enthusiastically. I raised my hand in a small, greeting gesture. She watched us as we walked up to her front porch.
“Sorry to barge in like this.” Liam apologized.
“But we wanted to see Harry.” Niall smiled and then stared at his feet as he dug the tip of his shoe into the accumulation of snow on the porch. “Needed to see him, really.”
“I see.” Anne bit her lip. I knew she was nervous about us being there. She probably thought management made us come out here to get Harry, but really we came on our own accord.
“Who is it mum?” We perked up, hearing Harry shout from somewhere in the house. Anne looked from us and then inside the house. The wind picked up and she ushered us inside. The wind created a vacuum and slammed the door behind us. It was loud. “Did you say something? You know I can’t really hear much but mumbles from the right one.” Then there he was. A little pudgy like Niall thought he would be due to his mother’s cooking. He stood with the help of his crutches in the archway in front of his family room.
“Hey mate.” I said loud enough so that he could hear. His eyes widened and a large grin spread across his face.
“HAZZA!” Niall bounced forward, past Anne and latched onto Harry. Harry dropped one crutch and one-arm hugged Niall back.
“What are you guys doing here? I thought you guys were doing stuff for management. At least that’s what Paul told me.” Harry pulled back confused. Apparently Paul told him we were busy keeping the band alive, when really, we were lazing about just as much as he was.
“We’re here to get you back on track.” Liam stated. “Time to get back to London, mate.”
Anne shook her head. “He’s not going anywhere until he’s in the clear with everything. His right ear still hasn’t healed the whole way and he’s still got a cast on his leg.” She stood between Harry and us. A deep frown spread across her face.
Harry placed a hand on her shoulder and she turned to face him. “Mum, this cast comes off next week. Then I get one of those walker boots. Plus, I think the right ear is in the clear. Harry flicked the lobe of his ear and chuckled. She frowned at him even more, but then sighed in defeat. “London needs Styles back, yeah?” Harry asked with as much enthusiasm as Louis’ wave to Anne a few minutes earlier. We all nodded. “Then London will get me back.” Harry agreed.
That was easier than expected.
