White

The wind howled through the leafless trees that dotted the sandy shore. The waves crashed dangerously on the rocks close to the woman clouded in white. Her hair flowed in a blonde halo around her head, complimenting the pale grey of her eyes and the ghostly white of her skin.
"Why, why did you do it? Why did you choose her?" she asked herself as she looked out at the waves, remembering the love that betrayed her all those years ago.

It was late morning on November 17th, 1909. The sound of waves crashing from the beach below could be heard in the bedroom of a twenty year old newlywed couple. Cecily and Auden Carter were married in March, and have recently moved into their little blue cottage that sat on the dunes of Cape Cod Bay in Massachusetts.
The young couple met when they were both eighteen. They met on Martha's Vineyard at Cecily's debutante gala that her parents hosted. Cecily was entranced with Auden's charming personality, his spiky brown hair, and his hazel eyes.
Auden proposed two years later on Nauset Beach and they had a big white wedding on the same spot that he proposed. The couple were happy with their simple lives and Auden got hired at Rockland Trust bank.
Both Ausen and Cecily came from the original families that settled on Plymouth from the Mayflower. Austen's family of bankers are incredibly wealthy, however, Aden had a gambling addiction and he eventually gambled away everything but a very small amount of their wealth. He soon took to stealing from the bank that he worked at for two years, and got into trouble with gangs that he owed money to. One fateful day in September in 1910, Auden's boss looked at the bank's ledgers, and discovered that Auden was embezzling money. Auden didn't think, he just took the letter opener on his boss's desk and thrusted it into his boss's neck. Auden was at a loss of what to do, something that has never happened in his life. His secretary that has worked with him since the beginning , Lizzie Warren, saw the body and helped Auden with the cleanup and disposal .
A few months later, the police started getting suspicious and suspected Auden for embezzlement and murder. Cecily and Auden were forced to start making a plan to escape their small town. They planned to take a small sailboat and row to Newport, Rhode Island. Their plan started taking action when they went out boating every Wednesday night, so people will see them and not suspect anything.
Finally, it was the night, the night where everything would change. Auden and Cecily packed up their few personal belongings from their little blue cottage.
"Come on dear," called Auden as they were walking down the sand dune that lead to the water's edge. Their quaint brown sailboat named the Queen Anne, tied to a small dock in the alcove that lead to the ocean, sat rocking back and forth, gently in sync with the waves.
Auden stopped suddenly and waved to a small dark shape with a single light shining from it. The moon came out from behind dark clouds in the night sky and the edges of the shape morphed into a face fanned with brown hair and brown eyes. The face of Lizzie Warren.
"What is Lizzie doing here, darling?" asked a confused Cecily as she tried to piece together the puzzle, the flowing layers of her white dress flying in the wind around her.
Auden, the love of her life, said nothing, he just gestured for her to come over to him and stand with him on the slippery dune. When Cecily reached him, he pulled her into his arms for a passionate kiss, a kiss filled with guilt. The kiss was different from how their kisses usually are and as soon as it started, it was over. She felt something was off, but she trusted her beloved Auden with her life.
Auden moved his lips up to her ear and whispered, "I'm sorry, my darling Cecily. I wish it could have been different, I wish this wasn't the only way."
"What do you - ," but she never got the chance to finish her thought because the cruel arms of the ocean were rushing up to meet her.

The woman let the waves lap at her feet, the cool ocean spray getting the bottom of her flowing dress wet. She glided down the shore, so elegantly that she looked as if she was floating. She gave one more longing look to the sea, the same sea that used to give her peace, then harshly took it away. The woman continued in the direction of the little blue cottage that sat on the dunes by the bay. Then she disappeared into the night, as if she was a ghost.
