CHAPTER 7

HI,
I'm Nojat Nureeden Kafayat. My Parents are Alhaji Dankwaso Nureeden and Hamzat Kafayat. I'm the only child of my parents.
I'm a Bsc. Holder of Mass communication from The University Of Lagos. I'm Almost 25 . My parents marriage lasted a few years before they got divorced  and a couple of years later, my father died. My mom didn't really mourn him though, Hamazat Kafayat. My mother was a strong, well opined disciplinarian, who never took 'no' for an answer. She excelled in all what she did, rising and became the Minister of Labor under the then PPD govt. She got ousted during the fall of that administration and took to become a critic to the new one.
She died just Two weeks ago..... No... she was murdered just two weeks ago.
The medical report concerning her death was 'Multiple head injuries' rupturing several blood tissues'.
I got to meet a young, handsome agent from the US.. Tolu, and inspector ife.
They both have tried to keep me company, they've come severally to question me but i don't want to be in shadows as my mother's killers roam freely. I'm Nojat nurudeen Kafayat, and this is my story................
***********************************
Tolu was in his office reading various files on previous reports on the death of Aluko of previous investigations.
The past week had been torrid for him, he had to share himself between working on the murder of Aluko Kosoko and that of Hamzat kafayat.
The former was official duty being that it was why he came and why he had the right to use the DSS resources to get information on that case whenever he wanted, the latter however was personal, he wasn't permitted to work on that case as Tanko had told him, "It's not your business". So he was left with inspector ife alone to work on that case, he  was merely helping out because of Nojat, hamzats daughter. He had called the previous night and she was recovering from the shock gradually. she had taken his advise on seeking the help of a psychologist to help her go through 'emotional therapy', the psychologist was booked to check in three days a week- Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. He had also made sure to be available on one of the days to help her recover faster. He felt them becoming closer lately, she always texted, they had gone out for a few 'mini dates' and things were sort of accelerating between them. Tolu wasn't sure if it translated to what he felt for Emily -Love.
on a second look at the investigative report before him, he squeezes it making it into a paper ball and hoops it into the bin, that was the 5th different investigative report on the case and it only pointed towards what the  four previous one he had read pointed to....Nothing. He tried remembering his discussion on the matter with Tanko Mohammed..
" Tell me exactly how it all happened " he had asked.
"well, Mr. kosoko first reported to the whistle blowing agency and he was directed to our headquarters here, he came in early the next morning and told the same story" Mr tanko had briefed, "our receptionist took his id and details... I'm coming" he paused as he bent down and opened his drawer and bringing out the form aluko had filled, and handed it over to tolu. He allowed tolu a moment to go through the form before continuing, "That were his details, infact, she didn't even believe his story and almost wanted to shelve the idea until she decided to put a call through to my secretary" .
"we all didn't believe his story, we've had several cases like that, plenty of them" he continued.
"so how did you all know it was true?" he had probed.
"we didn't even know it was true until after he died, i don't even know how the media got wind of it but they knew before us" he responded somewhat sadly, "in all that ruckus we had men search the place and that's how we found the money".
   " what about his family?"
" we don't know about his family, we don't even ask for it, and they haven't come forward till today".
*and wisely so* tolu thought, odds were high they'd be killed too.
"see agent tolu, in this part of the world, Whistle blowing is risky we make it as confidential as possible that's why we don't ask of family members or relations,  it's for security  reasons".
" okay wait, let me get it straight " tolu leaned forward, "you're telling me Mr Aluko died before the realization of the money?"
"yes agent tolu'' Tanko Mohammed dragged, " Aluko Kosoko died before he officially blew the whistle ".
***********************************
Nojat closed her laptop after typing her diary. It was a new exercise her psychologist had prescribed, it helped made it easy to sort out her thoughts, and she embraced it because her head was a mess. She lived all alone in the big mansion her mom had built, she hadn't had much visitors asides the usual ones, Tolu and ife. She loved their company and they'd always give her feedbacks on investigations and she made them promise to include her in their party once she had fully recovered. whoever did that to her mother and ruined her life deserved to pay. Her phone ranged and was a bit surprised at who the caller was.
" Aminat ?" she chided on the phone
"Nojat what's up?" Aminat greeted, "see i heard what happened and I'm sorry i haven't visited or called ".
" It's fine Aminat'"
" how are you doing?"Aminat asked
"I'm managing" Nojat replied
"okay, uhmm.. I'm in town for the holidays, can we meet up at the usual Lounge?, that's if its okay by you or you know what let me just come over to your place''
" no no " Nojat objected, "the lounge sounds fine, i need some air anyways"
  "okay, see you at 8"
" no problem". Then the line went dead. She really needed to go out having been locked in for the whole week, she needed to leave her life again, that's what her mother would want.
*********************************
"Hey ife, what's up?" Tolu had dialed the inspectors line.
  "i'm good, anything?'' he asked
" nah, just wanted you to help me with this case, how about we drive over to the scene, learnt it's not too faraway" Tolu said.
"oh, no problem then, but wait, what about DSS?"
"argh, i don't need any of them around me for now" tolu dragged. The number of personnel attached to him was overwhelming and it distracts him.
he could hear inspector ife laugh before he said "alright, I'll be there"
Arriving the crime scene they both combed the spot looking for clues.
*stupid dss* tolu muttered, they'd clean up the whole place.
"geez, its more like looking for a needle in a haystack" Tolu let out frustrated.
"lets go over this again" ife offered. there had to be some sort of clues somewhere.
Tolu brought out few notes he had scribbled down from the main ones and photos too.
ife observed the pics and began "okay his body fell this way, which means he was headed northwards right?". Tolu nodded in affirmation.
" so his house has to be in that direction".
"where are you going with all of this?"
"lets go over to his place, you've got his address haven't you?"
"yes i do, you sure?, his relatives might not want to speak with us" Tolu replied
  "Why?"
" Well his body is still with the DSS until investigations are over"
"well, we won't know unless we tried"
**********************************
Seyi had been sent an errand by his boss to get some tools. He had recovered from his shock as the days went by, he still often feel a chill whenever he passes the road where aluko was killed, but it was manageable now, he somehow felt opportune to have witnessed the most talked about murder in recent Nigerian history at least it was the most talked about until the murder of Hamzat Kafayat.
His Aunt mourned her death as she was her role model and someone who always fought for the people until her dying day. how tragic.
Seyi takes the right bend until he sees up ahead a police car with two men discussing and pointing at intervals.
It kick starts again, Seyi felt his legs shake and felt an inner cold take over him. *the police?*, *what are they doing here again?* , *are investigations still going on?* all these and many more filled his mind, he hadn't notice a huge stone right in front of him before tripping over and spilling over the tools which made so much noise as they scatter all over the ground loud enough to shift the two men's attention towards him. *ewooo*
"Are you okay?" he heard one of the men speak with a foreign accent.
Seyi doesn't reply as he scampers the ground hurriedly picking up the tools.
"hey, can i help you with that?" the Same man offers as he scurries to meet the young man.
Seyi sees the man jogging towards him before picking the last of the tools and making a run for it.
"Heyy, heyyy!!!, why are you running" Tolu screams out before noticing a big screwdriver, the guy must have forgotten it while in a hurry..
"you dropped something" tolu calls out but the young man was well out of sight. Ife soon catches up, "almost felt like you were going to chase him"
"no kidding"
"i see he left his screwdriver" ife took the tool from tolu before observing a black fluid covered all over it.
"seems our friend here is a mechanic_" Tolu says.
"Apprentice" ife completes. "his shop will be somewhere around".
" why did he run anyways?, scared of the cops?" Tolu asks
"yea or maybe he knows something"
"don't be ridiculous" tolu corrects
"that or I'm right, believe me,you don't know Nigerians more than i do" Ife says flatly
***********************************
it's dark and dakar observes the lady just few tables ahead of him. He had been noticing her for quite sometime and saw she only had water throughout. She was chocolate, and wore a spaghetti top that drove Dakar crazy, she kept looking around and staring at her watch, she was obviously waiting for someone and noticed she looked pissed.
"i see your man's delaying" Dakar said as he gingerly walked and stood beside her. he noticed she even looked more pretty now that he was in close by.
"may i keep you company?" dakar asks.
********************************
Nojat keeps checking her watch and looks at the time. 8:30PM. *Damn it Aminat where are you?*, she's looking around for a sign of her when she notices someone walking towards her table. She had been keeping an eye on him as he sipped his Hennessey and wondered what he wanted. she felt a chill round her body as he walked towards her and said "may i keep your company?".
she looked up to him and noticed he had powerful hands and he had very observable  biceps that made her mouth watery. stop it nojat!, her senses told her.
" No problem " she permitted, "and I'm not waiting for any man"
"oh, i guess today is my lucky day then" the man announced gleefully.
nojat couldn't help but chuckle.
"first time of coming here?'' he asked
" yes, I'm actually waiting for a friend " hamzat explained, before looking at her watch, 8:40Pm.
"you're going to kill her right?" the man teased.
Hamzat couldn't help but laugh out, she struggled to keep herself still and replied "yes maybe" when she settled.
Just then a music hits and she noticed the man moving slowly to the beat.
"You love Orente too?'' she asked
" by Adekunle Gold?, yes!. you?"
"it's my favourite" she replied.
"Well then",the man said as he emptied the last of his drink and offered his hand, " May i have this dance?".
Nojat takes his hands and the man slowly lifts her to her feet as he slowly wrapped his broad  hands round her waist, sending shock waves round her whole body, they were too close and his breath was pure, one would think he never had a drink.
"you don't even know me" Nojat says as she allowed him move her body to the tune.
"well, can i know you now?" the man said staring into her eyes.
"I'm Hamzat " she replied, maintaining her gaze on his.
"I'm Umar......." the man said, leaning into her... " Umar Dakar"!.
