It is known to mimic voices that can attract prey. We do not know what they eat as any person who tried to come close to one has either disappeared or died a painful death, but judging by the blood from their mouths and how people disappear, the easiest hint is that they eat humans.

The Creatures Of The Night are Creatures that only come out at Night. They are extremely hostile and react violently towards the smallest sound. Here are things you should do if you EVER encounter/see one:

1. NEVER look directly at it. Always stare down when you see one. If it senses that you saw it, then continue staring at it. It would not attack, but will follow you until you are close enough for it to attack you. DO NOT Turn your back on it, as it will trigger it even more.

2. NEVER follow voices that sound like your loved ones. It is possible that the Creature knows who is dear to you and is trying to lure you in. If the voice is the voice of a recently deceased loved one, leave the area immediately, as a creature is waiting nearby.

3. NEVER make any sudden movements and/or loud noises. That includes screaming, whistling, shouting, talking, running, throwing your hands up, even blinking. It would startle the creature, making it more triggered and it would lung at you and kill you. Instead, walk backwards slowly and try not to startle it farther. If it charges at you, only then you can run, but silently, as loud footsteps would attract the attention of other creatures.

4. If you think you are safe in your house, remember to close all windows, lock all outdoor doors, and open all lights. Creatures can climb into open windows and dark places to pick off unsuspecting prey.

5. DO NOT panic. Creatures can sense fear and it draws them towards you, and being calm has a 50% chance that you would be spared. Panicking can also trigger them or startle them, and we all know the consequences of it.

If you are ever chased by a creature, the only safe places are:

-In the river. Creatures are fast leapers, but cannot swim. Wait there until the creature gets bored and goes away, or when you thought of a plan to escape without startling it.

-In a building, like your home, the post office, a shop, or a restaurant full of people. Creatures cannot get in as they are restricted by ancient laws.

-In a car. The creatures would try to get in, but they cannot match the speed of the vehicle.

UNSAFE PLACES TO BE IN THE PURGE OF THE NIGHT:

-On top of a tree. Creatures are great climbers and could reach you in seconds.

-Out in the streets (at night): Creatures love to pick off loners out in the streets, as it is their territory during the night time. It is the most unsafe place to be.

-A building that is dark or abandoned. Creatures live in there and love to wait for people who think they are safe in the indoors of their territory.

-The woods, especially the manmade roads. The creatures can easily spot you from the trees or their dark hiding places.

-The roofs. They can climb trees to reach you.

How to know if a Creature is Present:

-DO NOT expose yourself to the creatures. They would still attack you even if you are about to become one of them.

(They infect people but only rarely as they eat humans. Animals can also be infected. If you see an animal that acts rabid or is eating the flesh of humans or its own species, run. It would not attack as it does not care, but would if it was hungry. It is tameable but that is not recommended.)

What to do if you encounter symbols of the creatures:

The symbol of the creature is a skull (any skull depending on the creature's nature as they also eat animals. The only thing they don't eat is their kinsmen) decorated with bird feathers and bloodied bones. It is shrine and offering to the Eldorian Goddess of Pain, Ebony. 

-DO NOT touch the shrine. The creatures would know if you touched it and would attack you more aggressively.

-DO NOT try to burn/destroy/explode the shrine. The outcome is still the same but it would kill your companions quickly and painlessly, then punish you by Scaphism because you committed Regicide. They will sandwich you between two canoes or halves of a log, force feed you milk and honey and leave you in the middle of a stagnant body of water. You will suffer greatly and wish you died, begging them to kill you only to be fed more honey and milk. You should have never touched the shrine.

-If you see the shrine, you are in Holy Eldorian territory, and in a dangerous part of the creatures' territory. Leave this place immediately and you will suffer less pain.
