Selfish
Not that I don't want to help you,
Not that I don't care,
Sometimes living for myself,
Might get in the way of you deeming me fair.
I want to find something old,
Like the Midas' statue of gold
I want to find a treasure untouched,
In a book of gold or a painter's brush
I want to find my French café,
With a million reasons to be serious and just one to coquet
I want to find myself on a life-risking quest,
Be someone who does contrary to what's best
I want to find myself up on the moon,
I want to write something which would make Wordsworth swoon
I want to be a hero and a villain,
I want to be a phoenix and a Dylan
I want to be the snow and the rain,
I want to follow my heart and my brain
You see, there's so much to do
And there's so little time,
I do intend to live with you
But not before I live for me,
Its selfish enough for you,
And selfless enough for myself
That's just how I want it to work
Its how it will work.
