Chapter 5. "I love you with all my heart, Hayley Noelle,..."
I woke up and realized today was the 14th; the day Caleb left.
I felt a little sad, because I know I'd never see him again on Earth. It'd be a while before I saw him again.
And who knows when that'll be.
But I set aside the thought for now; I didn't want my last day with Caleb to be all depressing. So, I brushed my hair and headed downstairs for breakfast.
"Good morning Hayley." Caleb smiled as I sat next to him. "You okay today?"
I nodded.
Caleb grinned at me before finishing his waffles. We've been making them everyday that he's been here; we just want him to be happy.
I took a couple waffles and some bacon and began eating. Annie and Caleb were chatting while I just sat there and ate, thinking about what we should do with Caleb.
"Hey! Let's do something fun!" I suggested as I took my plate to the sink.
"Like what?" Annie asked.
"Like swim in the lake, play on the trampoline, play video games! Things Caleb likes!"
"I do like doing flips." Caleb said.
"Great!" I grinned as I hugged him. "Let's get dressed!"
We all quickly got dressed and went on the trampoline first. We didn't vlog much since Caleb was with us every second of the day, but it's okay. Most of the time, vlogging is like my number one priority, but right now, it's Caleb. We need to bond as much as we can for the next...10 hours we have together.
Annie and I practice gymnastics with Caleb, who could do the basics; front and back flips, cartwheels, etc.
After about an hour we played popcorn. It was fun!
I laughed every time I was bounced. After a while I said, "Let's go swim now."
Everyone agreed. We had our bathing suits underneath our clothes, so we just took those off and jumped into the lake.
"It's so cold!" Caleb yelled as we lifted our heads above the water.
Everyone laughed, then Mommy and Daddy came out and got on the boat.
"Come on, let's go for a ride." Daddy said.
We climbed into the boat and went around the whole lake. We passed a dock where other boats were, too.
And that's where everything went wrong.
"Hey guys!" A voice called. I turned around to see Sydney, Luke, and their family on their boat, passing ours.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Caleb panic and duck. He laid on his stomach and tried not to be seen.
That didn't work.
"Was that...Caleb?" Luke asked.
We all laughed nervously.
"Ah, how am I kidding? He...he's not alive." I saw tears start to form in Luke's eyes. "Happy belated birthday, best friend." He said as he looked up at the sky.
I almost started to cry. I felt so bad that his best friend in the whole entire world was right here, yet he didn't know it.
"Who was that then?" Sydney asked. "He doesn't have to hide, by the way."
"Uhm..." Annie stuttered.
"That's enough!" Caleb yelled as he stood up.
Luke and Sydney and their family gasped, their jaws falling through the floor of their boat and touching the bottom of the ocean.
"C-Caleb?" Luke asked.
Caleb nodded. "It's me. I can explain."
"I must be hallucinating..." Luke mumbled.
"H-how are you here?" Sydney asked.
Caleb took a deep breath before explaining everything. By the end of his story, Sydney had sat down while Luke had passed out onto the floor.
"Wow...that's incredible." Sydney said. "And Hayley found out first?"
I nodded. "I talked to him every night, but I never expected an answer."
We laughed and talked more. I could tell Sydney and Luke were in shock, yet they didn't want this moment to end.
I didn't want this moment to end.
When we were about to leave (because it was sunset), Sydney called, "Wait! I need to tell him something!" She leaned over her boat and whispered something in Caleb's ear. He smiled and then kissed her; something we never saw coming.
When he pulled away she grinned and started to cry. "I can't wait until I see you again."
"Me too." Caleb said as we drove away.
And that was the last time Caleb, Sydney, and Luke ever communicated face-to-face.
•••
I cried when I saw that it was 7. Caleb gave us a sad look. "It's almost time." He whispered.
We nodded and headed outside. We talked for a few more minutes before it was 7:08 PM; the bright lights came back.
"No!" I screamed. "No, don't go!"
"I have to!" Caleb yelled as the light surrounded him.
I ran over and hugged him; I didn't care that the light was blinding me. "Caleb, is there any way you can stay? Please?" I asked. "I need you! You're my big brother! You're Annie's big brother! Everyone who's ever met you needs you! You can't go! Just please stay!"
I saw Caleb start to cry as he squeezed me tight one last time. "I can't. Can't you see? I can't! Hayley, God needs me in Heaven. But I will always be with you. Physically, no, but mentally, yes. I will always be in your heart and memories. Don't forget the good memories we've had. Don't forget me either. We will meet again, Hayley, whether it's tomorrow or in 70 years; we will meet again. I love you with all my heart, Hayley Noelle, and I can't wait until I see you again."
I bawled as the light swallowed him up. Then, it disappeared.
"No!!" I screamed as I pounded the grass, tears pouring down my cheeks. "Why?! WHY?!?!"
"Hayley! It'll be okay." Annie said as she hugged me.
I shrugged. "But he left us again, Annie."
"I know. But I'm here for you. I promise."
We stayed there hugging for what felt like forever until I went back inside and downstairs to Caleb's room.
I walked in and looked around; still looked the same, like if he never even walked in here. I opened up his drawer and pulled out a Cooperstown sweatshirt and slipped it on. While putting it on a piece of paper toppled out. I picked it up and read it, which said:
Dear Hayley,
I'm so sorry I had to leave again. Trust me, I wish I didn't.
Now don't think I left to break your heart, because that would never be my intention. Actually, my visit was for the opposite reason; so that you could feel a little better on my first birthday in Heaven.
If you're wondering, Heaven is great; and David says not to forget about him too, and he said God may allow him to visit MK and Danielle soon. It all depends on God's decision.
Now, I need to give you some advice:
1) Remember this visit.
2) Never forget me.
3) Keep whispering to the stars, and don't let anyone stop you.
4) Celebrate life.
Celebrating life is the key to a great life. Keep on celebrating, Hayley Noelle, because it will pay off later on.
I love you from the bottom of my heart.
Love,
Your Baked Potato,
Bubba,
Caleb
I smiled and cried as I held the letter tight.
Then Annie walked in and saw me crying. "Hey, what's wrong? What's that?"
I looked down at the paper and realized there was something I missed:
P.S. This letter was meant for you and only you. Not Annie, Mom, Dad, or Piper, or anyone. Just YOU.
"Nothing." I said as I tucked the paper into the sweater.
Annie shrugged and slipped into Caleb's bed next to me.
"Let's keep on celebrating life, okay?" I told Annie.
"Of course. Forever and ever; it's what Caleb would've wanted." She said as she turned off the lamp.
"It's what he wants." I whispered to myself as I fell asleep smiling. I couldn't help but dream of the day I'd go to Heaven and see him again.
And I know it would be beautiful, and that celebrating life would pay off.
Because I'd get to see Caleb again.
And every night, I still whisper to the stars.
And I'll never stop.
A/N: End of my story! Definitely a short story! I've been working on this story forever, and I wasn't sure how to end it but honestly, this came out great. I loved it, how about you?
Also if this was real, would you as a fan be upset that Bratayley didn't vlog Caleb's return? Honestly, I'd be disappointed that we wouldn't see any new Caleb footage, but I get it and I would respect their privacy.
Anyway I hoped you enjoyed this chapter/story! If so please vote comment and share I love hearing you're feedback! It really means a lot to me!
Until next time everyone ;)
