There's never any escape. Not from any of her pain. It doesn't come from school, since no one at school hates her. She's not your cliché bullied nerd, although a nerd she is. Actually, everyone at school appreciates her sharp brain and her quick lips. Too bad it's not the same at home or in the city. Tyler is her legal guardian and step-father, although she's never once called him her dad. He hates her with a burning passion, and the feeling is mutual. She was a mistake and her daily routines serve as a harsh reminder of that fact. Even the job she's forced to work at just tells her that she's not free here. It's a constant voice screaming in her head that she's completely and utterly alone.

She's smart because she doesn't have a choice. If she gets good enough grades, her hope is that she can get a scholarship out of this city, away from the damned place she can't make herself call home.

But then a single boy got in her way. Just one stupid boy. He couldn't just mind his own damn business. Of course, he was only the start. As soon as everyone else found out what happened behind the closed door of her house or what happened out in the city at her job, she was no longer this innocent geeky girl.

She's seen a lot. She's seen a lot more than anyone should have to see in their lives while she's still at the mere age of 16, but she's still standing. She's still going.

Of course, everybody has a snapping point.
